After diving back in and rereading 24 issues, we have seen some creative things that add a little country to a wedding. In this article you’ll read about some of our favorites from past issues.
I always tell people, when Chuck and I met (the second time) neither of us ever thought we would end up together. We had met years before, but a selfie I took in 2020 lead to a response from Chuck and through that one fateful message our friendship bloomed. We learned quickly that we had many things in common, our love for our children and family, our passion for the best team in baseball (Go Cardinals!), and most importantly, our love language! It was amazing to know that we both desire closeness with one another. It’s definitely why our love feel so natural.
Chuck proposed on what I thought was a Black Friday trip to St. Louis. He wanted to go to Busch Stadium for some shopping, little did I know what he had in store. We walked to Home Plate entrance (where he had a photographer hiding) and when I turned around I found him down on one knee. He spoke the sweetest words, calling my heart his home, and once he asked the big question, I cried “Yes!” Our wedding day was simple and beautiful. Our children, immediate family, and a few close friends gathered for an intimate ceremony on a peninsula. Under the weeping branches of a lovely willow tree we said our “I do’s”. We wandered through a sunflower field for our bridal portraits and then came together with more family and friends to eat cake, celebrate and dance the night away! Whenever I ask Chuck what his favorite moment of the day was he always says, when he saw me for the first time walking down the aisle to him. For me there are two special moments. The first is Chuck’s remarkable vows. The way he put our love story into words was overwhelming. The second
moment was my mother-son dance with my little love Sammy. We danced and twirled our way through the song “I Get To Love You” and I will never forget whispering those sweet lyrics to him as I held him close.
When a photographer gets married, we know a lot of people in the wedding industry. Photographers are show runners, we don’t just take your photos, we help the day run smoothly. We work with videographers, officiants, DJ’s, event staff and wedding coordinators to make sure every detail is taken care of. We want the bridal couple to relax and enjoy, afterall it’s only one day and it goes by so quickly. Because this is my experience with weddings, we were friends with many of our vendors.
The two most important and yet easiest decisions for us were our officiant and photographer. We love the wisdom and passion John Mitchell, Worship Leader at The Crossing, displays for Jesus Christ. When we reached out and asked if he would do the honor of marrying us, he didn’t hesitate. We were thrilled to know he would be guiding us through our day! As for our photographer, I only had eyes for one professional. Elizabeth with E. Three Photography is one of my best girls. We have worked together and known each other for over a decade and watching her grow into the amazing photographer she is today has been awesome to witness. I had asked her to be my photographer before I was even engaged, so she knew I’d come to her when Chuck proposed. I said “Yes to my Dress!” at “Girls in White Satin”.
Continued on pg 16
Ashley at “Savvi” was great in taking care of our menswear details. Lisa, who did my make-up, and Olivia, who handled our hair, did a fabulous job enhancing our natural beauty. Danielle at “Spring Lake Country Club” helped us plan our rehearsal dinner and wedding ceremony. We loved the atmosphere at Dick Brothers Brewery and I knew Bret and Joi well, so asking them to host our reception was easy and fun. “The Rebel Pig” prepared our incredible food. When it came to reception decor, I knew I wanted something simple and vintage. I love anything antique so with the help of my best friend and maid-of-honor Jill, we made candles out of all the antique glassware I could get my hands on. My dear friend Amber of “Sweet and Flour” made our delicious cake. We heard rave reviews all night about how yummy it was. “Pizzazz Entertainment” did an awesome job keeping the party going with great music and fun, and my talented friend and
neighbor, Sherri King of “The Right Touch Florals” handled all our floral arrangements. We were so thankful for each and every one of our vendors as they helped to make our day perfect!
In the end, when it came to planning our wedding all we knew for sure was that we wanted it to be centered around Christ and to be surrounded by family, and those who feel like family to us. Chuck and I love our crazy, busy, happy life. He’s learning how to deal with a photographers crazy schedule and I am learning to slow down and enjoy the life we are making. I always tell people, when Chuck and I met, neither of us ever thought we would end up together, but now it’s clear that God gave us both a second chance when we met. We have created the most beautiful family together and for that we are so incredibly blessed.

Avery + BrettOur love story began when I was working construction for my dad’s company, J&J Construction in the Summer of 2017. Brett was working for Custom Glass and Glazing at the time and happened to be putting in the windows in the same building we were renovating.
We began talking to each other and hanging out following this, by September he had asked me to be his girlfriend, and we never looked back. We built our relationship around our faith in God, family values, and how much we enjoyed spending time together.
Him attending church with me faithfully was the start of my true love for him. In September of 2021, he asked me to marry him and it was the easiest yes ever. On July 16, 2022 we were married on my late Grandmother’s birthday, and the day before my parent’s 29th wedding anniversary.
We built our relationship around our faith in God, family values, and how much we enjoyed spending time together.

Our love story began in the spring of 2019, when I started working at the post office. Jack had already been working there for some time as a mail carrier. Frequently passing by one another would lead to small talk and joke-telling. Fast forward a year and some change, I would start asking him what he liked to do, what kind of movies he enjoyed, or if he liked a particular restaurant. I would always get similar responses, “I don’t really go out because my friends all live out of town.” I would respond that “you could always go with someone else.” Finally, after two months of flirting, I asked if he’d be interested in going out sometime. He asked for my phone number, and then struggled to find a piece of paper to write it down. I then went home, and called my best friend to tell her the good news. She said to give him three business days to call. He called as soon as he got off work, about four hours later.
We then went on our first date. Opening doors and being a perfect gentleman left an even better impression of him on me. I even gave him a bite of my meal as he’d never been to where we ate. This was a game-changer since I do not tend to share my food with anyone, ever. He made me feel so special in such a short amount of time that I knew he was the one. I just hoped he was getting the same feelings. We continued to see each other, going on hiking and kayak adventures, even to the drive-in.
After about a year and a half, thinking that Jack would wait twenty years to propose, he got down on one knee when we were running out the door to my high school reunion. Being speechless for perhaps the first time in my life, I managed to giggly say “yes.” Needless to say, I did not see this coming.
Planning a wedding became our first serious undertaking together, deciding to hold the big day for a Sunday. Our reasoning being that our post office doesn’t deliver on Sunday. This lent itself also to the fact that Jack’s dad and brother also work as mail carriers. We really wanted some of our co-workers to be able to attend too. With a simple wedding in mind,
we let the venue be our primary form of decoration. Adding only mason jars and a few flowers to the rustic barn. Early rain storms led to a calm dusk in time for the ceremony that went off without a hitch. Seeing Jack’s face light up when he first saw me in my dress made me certain I’d made a good choice. I was even more sure in that moment that we loved each other to the moon and back, or maybe even Pluto and back.
I could not have imagined a more perfect, and surprisingly relaxing, day thanks in no small part to our amazing wedding manager, Amy Deters. I cannot stress enough that everyone should look into hiring a good manager.

A July Wedding MCDONALD VIDEO & PHOTO
I can’t remember the first time Ben and I met. Truthfully, it is hard to remember a world where I did not know him. Growing up, we attended the same grade school and then high school. One year, we were assigned to sit next to each other in math class and the rest is history! After surviving long-distance at two different universities, we got married in July of 2021.
I never had a dream wedding in mind. Creativity has never been my strong suit, and I would not even know where to begin. Our goal was to have a guest-oriented day filled with timeless and elegant touches. I think our vendors helped us nail that! The day celebrated our love and the love we have for our family and friends perfectly. Each vendor played a role in bringing our vision to life, and I could not imagine a better day.
Today, we are living in Waco, Texas while I attend Baylor Law School. We do not know where the wind will take us after, but we are just happy to do it together!

We began our journey together almost four years ago on January 28, 2018. From our first actual date in February to the countless “hangouts” together our story started to form. Soon enough we were going to proms, celebrating graduation, starting college, and so much more. We’ve done plenty over the last four years to make this the longest story you’ve ever read, but we will keep it short and share the only story most of you want...the proposal.
Sunday, January 9, 2022 the wait had FINALLY come to an end! We had planned to go to a nice dinner together that evening at Tiramisu. Due to our work schedules, Sunday evenings had become our date nights. Well on the way home from church we checked and the Tiramisu is closed on Sundays. At first, we were bummed but this wasn’t that big of a deal since we were both pretty stuffed from lunch. We spent the afternoon planning our wedding details for a wedding that had a date, but no ring...yet. We decided to just go to our typical Sunday dinner spot, the local Mexican restaurant. At this point it was just a normal evening and we were both enjoying the time together before another crazy week.

After dinner, we went downtown to look at some things we were considering for our wedding. Bryce wanted to look at something down on the riverfront and so we headed in that direction. We were looking at the new renovations when Bryce’s plan came together. He got down on one knee and asked the big question. The obvious answer was “Yes!” Our families joined us and helped to celebrate the special moment.
Six short months later, July 9, 2022, our wedding day. It went so perfectly we couldn’t have asked for anything more. We were surrounded by our closest family and friends. It was everything we had dreamed of and more.
The obvious answer was YES!

Justine Wright Photography is a husband + wife photography team serving St. Louis, MO, Quincy, IL, and beyond. Specializing in family portraiture and weddings, and utilizing both film and digital mediums, they take only a limited number of clientele each year in order to provide an experience of the highest quality. When it comes to their style, they’re incredibly fond of soft, natural light, neutral tones, and the quiet, in-between moments that tell you story. While they believe that a good photograph should be aesthetically pleasing, they believe that a great photograph should evoke emotion; so when they click their shutters, they strive to create imagery that gives you all the feels (today and every day).
Congratulations you have been asked by the bride or groom to honor them with a toast on the biggest day of their lives thus far and you want it to be incredible and believe me, they do too. Here are just a few simple suggestions that will help make your toast unforgettable, for all the right reasons.
*As you begin to put your thoughts on paper, remember that it is not a speech. Keep the attention and the focal point on the occasion and the guests of honor.
*Keep it brief, this is not all about you, cover the very best points and be done, 2-3 minutes is probably enough time to offer a great toast. Leave them wanting more, rather than hoping you’ll shut up soon.
*Keep it “Rated P.G.”. Watch your language. If you want to share a story, always make sure it’s something you would share with your own mother.
*Do not indulge in too much alcohol leading up to your toast. Alcohol may make you THINK you’re a better speaker, but it probably makes you think you’re a better dancer too. Hang-overs, headaches, and lack of judgement are not pretty at a wedding.
Don’t be that kind of person:
*You do not need to introduce yourself. A professional MC will command the room’s attention and then introduce you and the other toasters. Do not begin with, “Hi, for those of you who don’t know me, I am…”, you have already been introduced.
*Don’t be nervous. This isn’t public speaking. You are speaking to a private gathering of family and friends, not making a speech for everyone to evaluate.
about how much you hate “public speaking” or “doing this kind of thing. Remember that this is a privilege and should be treated as one, and not as a painful task. These kinds of unsavory remarks are a negative way to begin a very positive moment and make the toast about you instead of about the bride and groom.
*Do not discuss negative topics, like breakups, past girlfriends, cheating, divorce, etc.
*DO NOT attempt to drop the mic, most couples have signed a contract to replace the mic if it is dropped. The couple will be charged $1000.00 or more for mandatory replacement if you do. Plus, it is a good way to lose a friendship.
Topics for your Toast:
*Relationship - How do you know the bride & groom?
*Childhood stories - Did you grow up together as children? What was it that helped create your close relationship?
*Friendship - What does their friendship mean to you?
*How the couple met? Did you introduce them or were you there when they first met? What were your first thoughts when you met the other person?
*Watching them as a couple. Talk about how their love has grown.
*Words of Wisdom - What can you share to help them have a long, happy, healthy marriage?
*Reference a famous quote - If you know a quote which describes the couple, use it, google can help you.
*Always end on a positive note!
Delivery:
*Print out your notes, it is much easier to read than trying to use your phone. Make sure to print it large enough to read in dim lighting.
*Stand near the couple and don’t wander away. This is very important for photos and videos.
*Hold the microphone 1-2 inches from your mouth. It will not pick up your voice at your chest level. It is important for the sound quality to do it correctly. Microphone feedback is caused when the microphone is held too far away and we are trying to compensate for that.
*Close by asking everyone to raise their glasses and toast the bride and groom, remember to say “cheers”.
*When you’ve finished giving your toast, take a few moments by giving them a hug, a kiss, a handshake, a high-five or fist bump, depending on what fits for your personality.

We are not just a magazine. We are a loving conversation between local couples, our community, and wedding professionals. Be a part of QAB.
You just got engaged, HOW EXCITING!!! Wait…you just got engaged, NOW WHAT?
Don’t stress. We have a list of things to help you through your journey from engaged to married! Here are a few things we think you should consider.
1. Call Your Parents
Call your brothers and sisters, your close friends who are like family. You don’t want them finding out through social media that you are engaged. Call them personally. There may be a chance your parents already know it was going to happen and are waiting patiently for the call to confirm it has happened.
2. Get a Manicure
If this is not something you do normally you might want to now. Your hand and that shiny new ring will be the center of attention for a while. If you’re going for a natural look, make sure your nails are shaped and cleaned. You don’t want family and friends to notice your chipped nails over the new engagement ring.
3.
When you’re ready to tell the rest of the world your big news, take an awesome picture of your ring or of you and your new fiancé and post it to your socials. If there was a surprise photographer or videographer that captured the proposal be sure to post that!
4.
Yes, one of the less fun parts about getting engaged. But it could save your butt in the long run. You can add the ring as an extension to your home or renter’s insurance and it’s not all that expensive.
5.
Take some time to celebrate this new chapter in your life. Doesn’t have to be a big party. Some close family and friends out for a couple of drinks. Or just have a little date night party for the two of you. Either way, your engaged! Celebrate a little.
6.
Take a couple of weeks to let the news settle in before you jump into wedding planning. You’ll have enough stress during the planning process so enjoy a little calm down time.
If the ring fits, AWESOME! But if it doesn’t, get to your jeweler and get it sized. You don’t want to chance losing it right after saying yes.
8.
If you’re looking to tie this knot sooner rather than later then you’ll need to get your date set and soon. Some of the most desirable dates are booked out years in advance. So figure out what works best for you and your family and set that date.
Before you move forward with any wedding planning, make sure you check your budget. Unfortunately, no one likes to talk about this part but to make sure you don’t get in over your head, create a budge. Determine which aspects of your wedding day are most important and that you are willing to spend more money on and which areas are not.
You may have your date picked but you have to make sure your dream venue has that date available. Check out all your options, do some research. Make sure the location is ideal for your plans.
During your venue search you will need to determine your wedding size. If you are going big or small, it will help you decide which location would be best for your big day. This also ties in with your budget, so keep that in mind.
Get that Pinterest board going! Start saving your favorite images of wedding elements that might like to have for your big day. Share it with your fiancé so they too can have a say in what they like or don’t like.
You can interview wedding vendors on your own or if you’re considering a planner or wedding manager they hold a lot of weight when it comes to referrals. They are a great resource for all things wedding.
If you are clueless on where to start for ideas, vendors, etc. Check your local area for wedding shows or expos. These can be great to meet some of the vendors in your area. These shows sometimes have giveaways as well as the vendors who participate. You might be able to get a deal with a vendor you end up falling in love with.
How many groomsmen or bridesmaids will you have? Will there be a maid of honor or best man? What if there are odd numbers, will you be ok with that? Will either of you have a bridesman or groomslady? Make sure to discuss these things before you start popping the question to friends.
We have it all under one roof and can accomodate events of any size and style.

Saying “I do” has never been easier!
ext up in our “From the Past” series, country style weddings! We love the look and feel of a country style wedding be not as much as we love the little details that really round out a country style wedding. After another fun crawl through the magazine’s archives here are a few things we found.
1. October wedding from issue 3. What a fun way to add a country, and a farm feel to your wedding day then having photos done with a horse. Horses really are beautiful animals so being able to include them as part of your weddingday is amazine. Livestock for the win here.
2. October wedding from issue 5. Another fun thing about country style weddings is having the bridesmaids and groomsmen wear cowboy boots. Doesn’t seem to matter the color or design, they all look great as part of the wedding attire. They are adorable and we’re told they can be very comfortable. Perfect to dance the night away.
3. September wedding from issue 7. Three words: Old Farm Truck. This wedding used an old blue farm truck for guest so drop off gifts and cards. What a neat idea, and something fun to take pictures with.
4. May wedding from issue 11. Wood center pieces are a great added feature to a country style wedding. Here you see the cake displayed on one but we’ve seen them used for table center pieces and decorated up in all kinds of ways.
5. August wedding from issue 12. Probably one of my favorite country style details is when the bride and groom are both wearing cowboy boots. Super fun and adorable and makes for a great picture. Really shows the style and personality of the couple.

When we first launched QAB Magazine it 2015 we were hoping to feature talented local businesses. As we began meeting couples - newly engaged, planning a wedding, or already married - we realized there were so many stories to tell. How couples found each other, how they made their day special, who they worked with and more; were all a part of the fabric of Quincy Area Bridal Magazine. We can’t wait to hear more about weddings in Quincy in 2023. There are so many ways to be a part of upcoming issues. Join the conversation and let’s tell your story!
Tell us how you met, or what your wedding day was like. Submit your images and your story, your wedding might be featured in the section we call, Local Love
Here’s a list of images we LOVE to see
Your photographer will be very familiar with the term, flatlay. It will include stylized images of the invitation or program and other details like the wedding rings, cuff links or jewelry.
We’d love to see the couples getting ready, putting make-up or adding those finishing touches to their tie. It’s always a tear jerker when we see you getting your parents and grandparents involved
We love to see that first look and any shots either of you take with your wedding party, before you say, I DO
The venue and your entrance is always a favorite, and if your photographer also caught the groom’s reaction, we’d love to see it! The first kiss is always sweet and creative exits from your ceremony space make for lovely full page spreads!
We don’t look for too many of these. One or two of the whole wedding party - post ceremony - is plenty. We don’t need every family shot with each aunt and uncle that jumped in for a pic!
Details of the room help our readers understand the tone and mood of your wedding. Was it wild and vibrant, or soft and elegant. Images of the wedding cake almost ALWAYS make the cut! Send us a few of the first dances and definitely an exiting exit from the reception ,if you did onecue the sparklers!
What’s the first thing you should do after you get those engagement photos back? Submit to QAB Magazine, of course. We’d love to help you share your big news AND you’ll be first on the list to call TO SUBMIT YOUR WEDDING! It’s fun way to be featured in a local publication and in our social media channels!
Don’t think for one second that you have no place here if you’ve married for years. We love to feature people who have already been through the planning process in our Let’s Play 20 Questions section of the magazine. Plus, we love is you submit your wedding photo and a current photo!
