Though they gained national exposure on season four of NBC’s hit television singing competition “The Sing Off,” the five members of VOICEPLAY have enjoyed wide acclaim across the country and around the globe with their original, imaginative, and ridiculous sound. “Long Tall Sally” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” are just a couple of the classics on which legendary R&B artist Grady Gaines can be heard blasting his sax. As leader of the Upsetters, the Texas native backed legendary rock pioneer Little Richard on countless hit records and concert tours that included stops in the great houses like The Apollo and Palladium. Other luminaries Grady Gaines jammed with include Sam Cooke, Gladys Knight, Bo Diddley, and Etta James. Get ready for a rockin’ concert highlighted by Grady Gaines’ “honkin’,” bombastic, attitude-drenched saxophone playing. Hot off the presses! This concert coincides with the release of Mr. Gaines’s new autobiography I’ve Been Out There, written with award-winning journalist Rod Evans and published by Texas A&M University Press. A book signing will follow the performance.


Back Home Again: A Tribute to John Denver

Tuesday & Wednesday, October 6 & 7 6 PM ✴ Miramont Country Club From the foot-stomping fun of “Thank God, I’m a Country Boy,” to the tenderness of “Annie’s Song,” to the sweeping grandeur of “Rocky Mountain High,” this tribute concert beautifully encapsulates the life of singer-songwriter John Denver. Fronted by Tom Becker (a former member of favorite folk group New Christy Minstrels), the band will couple unforgettable stories about John Denver with performances of your favorite Denver songs. The Hot Sardines Holiday Stomp Wednesday, December 9 7:30 PM ✴ Rudder Theatre Known as “New York’s hot-jazz darlings,” THE HOT SARDINES are indeed one of the hottest acts currently touring the country. For their Holiday Stomp concert, the Sardines infuse yuletide classics with their unique twist on New York, Paris, and New Orleans jazz from the era of Prohibition and beyond. Listen for their takes on beloved classics like “White Christmas” and “Please Come Home For Christmas” and lesser-known gems such as Edith Piaf’s “Le Noël de La Rue” and Ella Fitzgerald’s “Santa Claus Got Stuck in My Chimney.” Expect plenty of surprises along the merry way!

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Tuesday, February 16 7:30 PM ✴ Rudder Theatre Your favorite legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, takes the stage in this witty, fast-paced production by the acclaimed Aquila Theatre. The clever Holmes skillfully maneuvers the twisted web of London's most intriguing cases with his split second deductions, revealing intimate and useful details of a person's life. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's vivid characters jump from the page weaving a tale of mystery, suspense and intrigue. In addition to Holmes, many of Doyle's other well known creations are on hand - the trusted sidekick, Dr. Watson; the only woman to have won Holmes’s respect and the one who got away, Irene Adler; and the red-headed mason, Jabez Wilson.

Wednesday, March 30 7 PM ✴ Rudder Auditorium Enter the world of Pedal Punk, a Steampunk-inspired place where cycling is the only way to escape the technology-obsessed society. This all-new show from Cirque Mechanics invites audiences of all ages to find out what happens when a wacky bike shop mechanic interacts with cyclists and bikes, creating wondrous larger-than-life machines and inspiring the cyclist in all of us. Spectacle Magazine recently described Cirque Mechanics as "The most important contribution to the American Circus since Cirque de Soleil." With the help of a daft dog, a beautiful bird and a friendly frog, her belongings are retrieved. But this broomstick’s not meant for five and – CRACK! - it snaps in two! When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch? And will there ever be room on the broom for everyone? Miss Nelson Is Missing Sunday, April 3 2 & 4 PM ✴ Rudder Theatre The students in Room 207 were the worst-behaved class in the whole school: spitballs stuck to the ceiling; paper airplanes whizzing through the air – even though they had the sweetest teacher of all, Miss Nelson. But when Miss Nelson unexpectedly does not come to school one day, the class gets the strictest substitute they have ever met: Miss Viola Swamp! The search is on for Miss Nelson, who seems to have vanished. Hopefully the students of Room 207 will find her before it's too late. This lighthearted musical reminds us all to show appreciation to those that we value!

What is OPAS? Founded in 1972, MSC OPAS at Texas A&M University presents professional productions of theatre, music and dance programs that enlighten, entertain and inspire. OPAS programs are funded entirely by revenue generated from ticket sales, sponsorships, and contributions.

When do tickets go on sale? Tickets are on sale now. Please contact the MSC Box Office at 979-845-1234 or order tickets securely online at www.MSCOPAS.org.

When will I receive my tickets? Your tickets will be mailed in August – in plenty of time before the first performance of the season!

Where do I park and how much does it cost? Parking is FREE! For events in the Rudder Complex, just park your vehicle in the University Center Parking Garage. Parking information for other venues will be provided to you when your tickets are mailed.

How do I find out if a show is appropriate for my children? If you have questions regarding the content and audience suitability of a particular program on the season, call the PAS office at 979-845-1661.
