JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG Tuesday, November 15, 2016 7:30 PM • Rudder Theatre

As the world commemorates the 75th anniversary of World War II, L.A. Theatre Works tours one of the great courtroom dramas of the last century: JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG. Originally a riveting teleplay, now it is an Academy Award winning film and stage play that is both surprising and unsettling. Ostensibly, the American-led tribunals were formed to prosecute those accused of war crimes committed during WWII against Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, people who were mentally and physically handicapped, and those considered inferior to the Aryan Race. But the themes explored in the play cover much broader and deeper ground: how compassion can become secondary to the rule of law; how human rights are compromised during times of conflict; and how politics plays a role in dealing with genocide – issues which remain relevant today. In this absorbing and complex drama, a cast of unforgettable characters play out their high-stakes game against the backdrop of a looming Cold War, shifting political alliances, and the shocking and vivid memories of the Holocaust and World War II. 7

ALL IS CALM: THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE OF 1914

INTIMATE GATHERINGS SEE ALL 6 EVENTS FOR AS LITTLE AS $219!

Monday, November 28, 2016 7:30 PM • Rudder Theatre

The Western Front, Christmas Eve, 1914. Out of the violence of the Great War’s trenches comes a silence, then a song as a young German soldier steps into no man’s land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, and peace. A remarkable true story, told in the words of the men who lived it. Cantus and Theater Latté Da present ALL IS CALM: THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE OF 1914 by Peter Rothstein, with musical arrangements by Erick Lichte and Timothy C. Takach. Through new arrangements of European carols and war-songs, like “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Good King Wenceslas,” and “Auld Lang Syne”, all sung by stunning a capella voices, ALL IS CALM recalls the remarkable World War I truce between Allied Forces and German soldiers on Christmas, 1914.

“A dramatic, real-life musing about the power this season has to make us stop, reflect, and decide to operate in a mode of peace.” - Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine
