Senior Sergeant Kennedy said he wants the weekend to be a positive one, and for everybody to go out and enjoy what the Barossa has to offer. “We just really want people to have fun and enjoy the Barossa experience,” he said.

Senior Sergeant Martin Kennedy, along with many others, enjoys the Barossa Gourmet Weekend every year and urges everybody to be responsible. “The festival is a celebration of the good food and wine the Barossa has to offer,” he said. “It really is a great weekend, “We just ask people to drink in moderation and to be responsible,” he said. “There are a lot of families who attend and they all have a great time.” He explained how venues will have to stick to the liquor licencing laws and said that if the venues provide a safe environment and comply with the conditions it will make things better for the community and the police. Snr Sgt Kennedy explained how a lot of visitors attend the event, but it is often the locals who misbehave. “It’s not just the visitors who get caught doing the wrong thing,” he said. “It’s really disappointing the numbers of locals who misbehave. “There are two things we ask people to consider,” he said. “They are being reasonable at the events and staying safe on the roads.” There will be extra police presence throughout the event with Adelaide Police and the Highway Patrol both in attendance. “There will be a target on drink and drug driving,” said Senior Sergeant Kennedy. “While we continue to catch them, we will continue to target them,” he said of the dangerous drivers. At its 2014 Barossa Gourmet Weekend event on August 16 Gibson Wines, Light Pass will release a new wine celebrating the heritage of its Light Pass site alongside the launch of a live album recorded on the property by musical group, Cousin Leonard and the Reunited. “The Smithy” a Shiraz/Cabernet blend is a throwback to a classic Australian red wine style and celebrates the heritage of the founding family who built the wattle and daub cottage the Gibson cellar door is built next to. The launch of this wine is an important step in the ongoing preservation of the cottage, an important piece of local history.
