PROGRAM NAME: DESCRIPTION:
AFRICAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMS AV Cultural Exchange Programs encourage cross-cultural understanding and collaboration by sharing the rich social and traditions of Africans in the world. The program includes a range of cultural exchange programs in visual arts, performing arts, film, arts education, presentation, workshops, and cultural studies. Individual programs in each of these disciplines are designed for different age groups: ACE for children/ ACE for youths/ ACE for adults.
TARGET POPULATION:
Children (5-13), Youths (13-17), and Adults 18+ from all cultures
CATEGORIZATION:
Childhood education; value-based education and cognitive development; positive citizenship
SUMMARY:
This program is designed to guide children, youth, and adults in understanding the productive role of cultural attributes within the inherent vibrant diversity of the society. The level and depth of programs vary by age group. Each ACE program description includes information on what outcome(s) the program is designed to impact and what population the program is designed to target. A full description of each program is provided upon request.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:
Cultural Arts: Making Ndebele Dolls (Class requires preparation)| Performance Arts: African Music and Dance Class | Social Studies: learning about Africa (for children)/ Learning about African cultures (for youth)/ Learning about African people worldwide (Adults)
DURATION:
Children Program takes 45 minutes- 1hour per class activity. Youth and adult programs take longer depending on the features.
PROGRAM OUTCOME:
The key objectives are as follows: Understanding diversity and fair interpretation of cultural values. Participants will learn the following: - creative ways of recycling and making memorable cultural arts -Not judging people or things by physical appearance - consciousness of African people and their cultures in the world - indigenous artistic expressions, maintained by oral tradition, - distinctions between regional music and dance - differences between musical instruments - understanding and utilizing freedom of expression constructively
IMPLEMENTATION COST:
Program costs are generally affordable and are tailored to institutional budgets.

PROGRAM NAME:
CULTURAL APPROACH TO ADULT COMPUTER TRAINING
DESCRIPTION:
AV is partnering with Sidewalk University to bring innovative approaches to reach and teach underserved populations whose lives and productivity may be greatly improved by the knowledge of computers.
ADULT COMPUTER LITERACY
Computer literacy for adults in the United States is very important and has become an imperative need. This program takes a new approach to bringing the older generation up to speed through patience and correlative illustrations of how technology can enhance performance in business and private life.
TARGET POPULATION:
Immigrants, adults, small business owners, underserved ethnic groups
CATEGORIZATION:
Adult Computer Literacy, vocational learning, small business capacity development, mentoring/tutoring, family, parents, grand parents
SUMMARY:
The course provides an opportunity to participants to both learn about procurement, management and experimenting with new technologies in various contexts.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:
Courses will be categorized into the following segments: Basic introduction to computers for beginners. Intermediate course is available for program applications learning. Advanced programs are available for specific integration with business skill, portable devices, e-commerce, and website development.
DURATION:
All courses will be delivered within five weeks. Class is usually scheduled for 3 hours.
PROGRAM OUTCOME:
Reduced income and knowledge disparities between different socio-economic groups at the community and national levels.
IMPLEMENTATION COST:
Standard fee for each learner per class is $25.

STUDENT EXCHANGE AND STUDENT CHAPTER PROGRAMS
DESCRIPTION:
AV facilitates opportunities offered by Helena Kaushik Women’s College in Rajasthan, India to young female students in the community as part of its student exchange program. Helena Kaushik Women’s College in Rajasthan India offers quality, affordable, and higher education degrees and certification programs in arts, science, technology, commerce, education, nursing, etc to international female students. Accommodation and food are made available at no additional cost at the college. This program is also one of the various opportunities available to AV Student Chapters. AV student chapter is a campus based collegiate AV association. Its purpose is to facilitate students with leadership development initiatives and global youth network for a much needed international collaboration at the community level.
TARGET POPULATION:
Graduate, undergraduate, high school students, lifelong scholars
CATEGORIZATION:
Education, vocational learning, women’s education and empowerment, capacity development, bridging gender gap, scholarship, student exchange, leadership development, international studies
SUMMARY:
This program highlights the importance of preparing students to be successful citizens in the global society of the 21st century, and it prioritizes comprehensive and value based education programs that intentionally prepare students to be active and engaged participants in an interconnected world.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:
The programs are flexible and tailored according to students’ needs. Undergraduate and graduate courses in various scholastic disciplines and vocations are taught in English in India. Other student benefits include media training, providing creativity outlets in various AV programs, public speaking training, and leadership development and management capacities. Activities include travel, volunteer abroad, etc.
DURATION:
Programs could last from one week to three month, a semester, an academic year, or a full college program. Students make the choice.
PROGRAM OUTCOME:
Integration and exposure to other cultures and languages provides a much need experience to engage and be actively involved with any community. The program also provides cultural competence as well as professional and societal benefits.
IMPLEMENTATION COST:
Tuition, accommodation, and food expenses are $2500 for the year. Student chapter programs are free and some funding may be available for activities at your school.

MEDIA ADVOCACY
DESCRIPTION:
AV Media advocacy program is the core capability of our organization. We use strategic and innovative approaches to advocate, promote public debate, and generate community consensus through AVTV, AV radio, AMANDLA Newspapers, and AV framework on the net.
TARGET POPULATION:
Africa, Women, global youths, World public, all community leaders
CATEGORIZATION:
Media Advocacy, Television, Radio, Internet and print media
SUMMARY:
Discussions on awareness, advocacy, and efforts to inspire consensus and leadership roles in communities and among people around the globe.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:
WOMEN'S EDUCATION AND EMPOWERMENT IN THE WORLD: This is a weekly women empowerment discussion on AV radio. The program focuses on coordinating international and intercultural efforts to integrate gender equality and women’s empowerment into poverty reduction, democratic governance, and crisis prevention through global networks of university students and colleagues who work to ensure that women have a real voice in all governance institutions as well as in the private sector and civil society. Every Friday at 11AM-12PM AFRICAN HEALTH DIALOGUES: African Health Dialogues is a weekly health care discussion on AV radio about awareness, progress and gaps, costs and accessibility of medical /pharmaceutical products and services within the African and African Diaspora communities worldwide. Every Saturday at 121PM GREEN AFRICA: Green Africa is a weekly environmental discussion to help mobilize a fresh understanding of community’s responsibilities in the universal ecosystem and generate consensus for right action. Topics are focused on the stewardship of the environment through advocacies on changes in public policies and individual behavior in recognition of humanity, ecosystems, ecology, health, and human rights. Every Sunday from 1PM-2PM other programs are currently being developed in the pipeline.
DURATION:
Each of these programs is scheduled for 1 hr.

COLLABORATIVE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
DESCRIPTION:
This program is based on the common interest for improving and protecting the quality of life. The purpose is get organizations and individuals in the community to work together on a shared vision and allows members to make decisions that incorporate the collective wisdom that makes efficient use of resources of the group and accurately reflect the strength and needs of the community.
TARGET POPULATION:
Typically a collaborative includes stakeholders representing: school districts and schools; county, city and other government officials; hospitals and health service providers; social service agencies; faith community; local businesses, and; community residents.
CATEGORIZATION:
Social education, symposium, conferences, events, workshops, concerts, sports events, festivals, and scalable community projects
SUMMARY:
AV works in collaboration with other organizations and community leaders on identifying and engaging responsibilities that corresponds to important needs of the community and coming together for solutions.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:
AV has worked in collaboration with following organizations on events:
Foundation for Cultural Diversity: Culturally diversity events, African Diaspora Association (ADA): Establishing ADA and setting up the first African Diaspora Federal Credit Union as community economic and financial empowerment project; World Mission Foundation: Organized conference on rising rate of HIV and adequate access to retroviral in African communities; GLP: Children of Africa project (fund raiser for African orphanages); Austrian – Nigerian Initiative (ANI): providing list of schools who need computers and matching donation in-kind drives; Sidewalk University: providing list of children who need eye glasses to see and read better and matching donation in-kind drives; African Advisory Council of the Bronx Borough President: African soccer tournament cup of Nations; City of Hoboken and Board of Education: Hudson County Table Tennis Olympics for kids; Community Libraries: symposium, seminars, panel discussions, workshops tailored community needs.

Each program needs prior planning, and duration varies.
PROGRAM OUTCOME:
Effective collaborative effort fosters establishment of new services, issuebased planning, and successful resident mobilization campaigns. It helps mitigate duplication of efforts and brings about desirable results. Page 9 of 10
