IV. Life Sciences Congress
Yaşam ve Doğa Bilimleri Fakültesi tarafından düzenlenen “Yaşam Bilimleri Kongresi” Sümer Kampüsü Rektörlük Konferans Salonunda yapıldı.
Organized by Life and Natural Sciences Faculty, the “Life Sciences Symposium” was held in the Rectorate Conference Hall on the Sümer Campus.
Bu yıl 4’ncüsü organize edilen kongrede, çok sayıda şehirden, çeşitli üniversitelerden biyoloji, genetik, tıp, eczacılık, biyomühendislik, kimya ve mühendislik bilimlerinden yaklaşık 300 katılımcı yer aldı.
Around 300 people working in biology, genetics, medicine, pharmacy, bioengineering, chemistry and engineering came from many different cities to join the fourth congress.
Kongrede, temel olarak kanser biyolojisi, proteomiks, biyoinformatik, doku mühendisliği, kök hücre, nanobiyoteknoloji, sinirbilim, immünoloji ve biyomedikal enstürmantasyon gibi önemli konuları ele alındı.
At the congress, essential topics of cancer biology, proteomics, bioinformatics, tissue engineering, stem cells, nanobiotechnology, neuroscience, immunology and biomedical instrumentation were discussed.
Kongrenin açılışında konuşan Rektör Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu, Yaşam Bilimlerinin, Moleküler Biyoloji ve Genetik alanının günümüzde özellikle insan sağlığı, mutlu ve sağlıklı gelecek için çok önemli olduğunu vurguladı.
Rector Prof. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu delivered the opening speech of the congress and said, the fields of life sciences, molecular biology and genetics are extremely important in our age especially for human health, and a happy and healthy future.
AGÜ’de kurucu dekan ve Rektör Yardımcısı iken İzmir Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü’ne (İYTE) Rektör olarak atanan Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran da konuşmasında, dünya tarihindeki teknolojik gelişmeleri, bilginin önemini, Yaşam Bilimleri ve Moleküler Biyoloji ve Genetik alanındaki gelişmeleri anlattı.
Prof. Yusuf Baran, who was assigned as the Rector of İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) after being a founding dean and Vice Rector at AGU, also delivered a speech and talked about technological developments in world history, importance of knowledge, advancements in the Life Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics.
Yaşam ve Doğa Bilimleri Fakültesi Dekanı Prof. Dr. Alaattin Şen ise IV. Yaşam Bilimleri Kongresi’ne katılan ve destek sağlayan herkese teşekkür ederek, kongrede bir çok alanda bilgi alışverişinde bulunacağını ifade etti.Kongre hakkında bilgiler veren Moleküler Biyoloji ve Genetik Bölüm Başkanı Dr. Öğretim Üyesi Emel Başak Gencer Akçok ise kongre hakkında bilgiler verdi. Çeşitli sunumlar ve konuşmaların yapıldığı kongre iki gün sürdü.
Prof. Alaattin Şen, Dean of the Life and Natural Sciences, thanked everyone who participated and supported the IV Life Sciences Congress and he expressed his wish for maximum information exchange in the congress. Afterwards, Dr. Emel Başak Gencer Akçok, Head of the Molecular Biology and Genetics, disclosed the themes of the congress. The congress hosted many presentations and speeches for two days.

The Yemeni Day
Abdullah Gül Üniversitesi’nde Yemen Günü düzenlendi. Etkinlikte Yemenli öğrenciler, Türk ve diğer uluslararası öğrencilere kültürlerini ve ülkelerini tanıttı.
The Yemeni Day event was organized at Abdullah Gül University. Yemeni students presented their culture and country to the Turkish and international students at the event.
Uluslararası Ofis tarafından başlatılan Kültürlerarası Etkinlik Serisi kapsamında, Uluslararası Öğrenci Birliği Kulübü ve Yemenli Öğrenciler Birliği ile ortaklaşa düzenlenen Yemen Günü etkinliği, Sümer Kampüsü Rektörlük Konferans Salonu’nda yapıldı.
As part of the Intercultural Series initiated by the International Office, the Yemeni Day was organized jointly with the International Student Association Club and the Yemeni Students’ Association in the Rectorate Conference Hall on the Sümer Campus.
İstiklal Marşı ve ardından Yemen Ulusal Marşıyla başlayan etkinlikte, Yemenli öğrenciler kültürlerini, geleneksel kıyafetleri, dans gösterileri, sunumlar ve tanıtım filmleriyle tanıttı.
Opening the event with the Turkish and Yemeni national anthems, Yemeni students introduced their culture with traditional attire, dances, presentations and promotional videos.
Öğrenciler çeşitli sunumlar da yaparak ülkeleri hakkında sosyal, kültürel, coğrafi ve tarihi bilgiler verdi.Yemen Günü etkinliği çeşitli ülkelerden çok sayıda öğrenci ile üniversitedeki yabancı uyruklu öğretim görevlilerinin yanısıra akademik ve idari personel tarafından ilgiyle izlendi. Rektör Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu’nun da ilgiyle izlediği etkinlik, yöresel yiyecek ve içecek ikramlarıyla sona erdi.
In their presentations, students gave social, cultural, geographical and historical information on their country. Many students from various countries, foreign faculty members and academic and administrative staff attended the Yemeni Day with enthusiasm. Rector Prof. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu also followed the event with pleasure. At the end, traditional Yemeni food and beverages were served.
Avrasya Yükseköğretim Zirvesi / Bu yıl 4’üncüsü yapılan EURIE – Avrasya Yükseköğretim Zirvesi’ne Abdullah Gül Üniversitesi de (AGÜ) katıldı. İstanbul Lütfi Kırdar Kongre ve Sergi Sarayı’nda yapılan zirvede 60’dan fazla ülkeden 2 bin 500’den fazla katılımcı yer aldı. Dünyanın üçüncü büyük Yükseköğretim Zirvesi olan EURIE 2019’a katılan AGÜ de “Study in Turkey” standında katılımcılarla buluştu. Zirveye katılan Uluslararası Ofis Koordinatörü Emeric Abrignani ise AGÜ’nün yükseköğretim alanındaki başarılı uygulamalarını anlatan bir sunum yaptı. AGÜ Teknoloji ve Transfer Ofisi (AGÜ TTO) Koordinatörü Aytaç Uzunlas ile Teknoloji ve Transfer Ofisi uzmanlarından Selahattin Aydoğdu da zirveye katılarak “Uluslararası Girişimcilik ve İnovasyon” konulu bir etkinlikte jüri üyesi oldu.
Eurasia Higher Education Summit Abdullah Gül University (AGU) attended the EURIE - Eurasia Higher Education Summit, which was held for the fourth time. Over 2,500 participants from more than 60 countries took part in the summit at the Istanbul Lütfi Kirdar International Convention and Exhibition Center. AGU welcomed participants at its “Study in Turkey” booth within the scope of the EU- RIE 2019, the third largest higher education summit of the world. Representing AGU at the Summit, International Office Coordinator Emeric Abrignani made a presentation about successful practices of AGU in higher education. AGU Technology Transfer Office (AGU TTO) Coordinator Aytaç Uzunlas and TTO Specialist Selahattin Aydoğdu were also present at the summit and participated as jury members for the summit event “International Entrepreneurship and Innovation”.
Rektör Sabuncuoğlu’ndan Kolejlerde Seminerler Rector Sabuncuoğlu Delivers Seminars at Highschools Rektör Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu TED Kayseri Koleji ile Kayseri İstem Koleji’nde öğrencilere dünyadaki teknolojik gelişmeler, iş ve sanayi dünyası, üniversite, meslek seçimi konularında seminer verdi. Prof. Dr. Sabuncuoğlu sunumunda dünyadaki teknolojik gelişmeleri anlatarak, dünyanın en büyük şirketlerinin artık teknoloji şirketlerinden oluştuğuna, yüksek teknoloji üretmenin önemine dikkati çekti. Teknoloji üretimi konusunda Singapur ve Tayvan örneklerini vererek Asya ülkelerinin yükselişte olduğunu vurgulayan Sabuncuoğlu robotlar, yapay zeka ve akıllı sistemlerle dünyada hızlı bir değişimin yaşanmakta olduğuna işaret etti.
Rector Prof. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu gave seminars to students about global technological developments, business and industry worlds, university and career choices at TED Kayseri College and Kayseri İstem College. In his presentation, Prof. Sabuncuoğlu talked about global technological developments and highlighted that the largest companies in the world are technology companies and how important it is to produce high tech. Giving Singapore and Taiwan as examples of tech-producing countries, Sabuncuoğlu stressed that Asian countries were on the rise and thanks to robots, artificial intelligence and smart systems, a fast change was taking place in the world. He explained the reflections of this change on education and told students to keep up with the change and develop skills for teamwork, communication, strategic decision making, innovation, and leadership.
Bu değişimin eğitime yansımalarını anlatan Sabuncuoğlu öğrencilerin, gençlerin bu değişime ayak uydurmalarını ekip çalışması, iletişim becerileri, stratejik karar alma, yaratıcılık, inovasyon, liderlik gibi yetkinliklere sahip olmaları gerektiğini söyledi.

International Conferences by AGU Topluma katkı hedefi kapsamında Abdullah Gül Üniversitesi’nin katkılarıyla Makina Mühendisliği Öğretim Üyesi Prof. Dr. Emin Faruk Keçeci tarafından Polonya’nın başkenti Varşova’da 2. Uluslararası Robotik ve Akıllı Sistemler Konferansı ve Fransa’nın Nice şehrinde de 3. Uluslararası Mekatronik Sistemler ve Kontrol Mühendisliği Konferansı düzenlendi.

At the 2nd International Conference on Robotics and Intelligent System in Warsaw, Prof. Wojciech Grega, from AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Simulation of Digital Networked Control Systems” while the other keynote speaker Assoc. Prof. Igor Korobiichuk, from Warsaw University of Technology, talked about a new aviation gravimetric system. At the 3rd International Conference on Mechatronics Systems and Con- trol Engineering, Prof. Marco Ceccarelli, from University of Cassino and South Latium in Italy, made a keynote speech on innovations in robotics with mechanism design. The second keynote speaker Prof. Georg Rauter, from University of Basel in Switzerland, presented his 15 million euro research project on a micro-robotic system for surgery. Prof. Keçeci said similar conferences would be organized in the following years as they increase international recognition of AGU and contribute to the development of the robotic science.

İnşaat Mühendisliği’nden mezun İsmail Berat Farız, Kuveyt’te proje planlama mühendisi oldu
İsmail Berat Farız, a graduate from Civil Engineering, works as a project planning engineer in Kuwait AGÜ’nün ilk mezunlarının büyük bir bölümü kısa bir süre içinde uluslararası şirketler ile kurum ve kuruluşlarda işe yerleşti. İnşaat Mühendisliği bölümü mezunlarından İsmail Berat Farız, mezuniyetinden kısa bir süre sonra Kuveyt’te, uluslararası bir şirket olan Limak İnşaat’ın Kuveyt Uluslararası Havalimanı Terminal-2 projesinde planlama mühendisi olarak işe başladı.
A majority of AGU’s first graduates found jobs at international companies and other institutions in a short period of time. İsmail Berat Farız, one of the graduates of the Civil Engineering department, started his career as a planning engineer within a short span of time after his graduation at the Terminal-2 project for Kuwait International Airport carried out by Limak Holding, an international company.
İsmail Berat Farız, AGÜ’deki üniversite hayatı boyunca kazandığı deneyimler, yaptığı projeler ve stajlar, yurtiçinde ve yurtdışında katıldığı sosyal ve mesleki etkinlikler sayesinde kendini geliştirdiğini ve uluslararası bir şirkette iş bulduğunu anlattı.
İsmail Berat Farız explained in his interview that he owed his job at an international company to experiences he gained as a student at AGU, projects and internships he did, as well as social and professional events he joined abroad and in Turkey.
Mezun olduktan sonra birçok şirketten kabul aldığını ancak yurtdışında çalışmak istediği için Kuveyt’te çalışan firmayı tercih ettiğini belirten Farız, %100 İngilizce eğitim ve günümüze entegre olan dersler sayesinde iş hayatına adapte olmakta zorlanmadığını ifade etti.
Farız said he received offers from many companies but he preferred to work abroad and chose the one in Kuwait. He stated that adaptation to business life was not difficult for him thanks to the 100% English education and integrated and collaborative courses.
Aynı zamanda Kuveyt’te akademik kariyerini de sürdüreceğini vurgulayan Farız, mezun olacak öğrencilere şu tavsiyelerde bulundu:
Farız talked about his plan to pursue an academic career in Kuwait as well and shared the following recommendations with future graduates:
“İş dünyasının okuldan farklı olduğunu daha kompleks ve zorlayıcı olduğunu belirtmek isterim. Yaptıkları çalışmalarda hata yapmaktan korkmamaları gerektiğini ve her hatadan ders çıkarmaları gerektiğini aslında yapılan hataların birer deneyim olduğunu söylemeliyim.”
“I must say that the business life is different from the university life, more complex and challenging. I can say with confidence that they should not be afraid of making mistakes, should learn from their mistakes and see every mistake as an experience.”

Also stressing the importance of having a good command of English, Farız said:
“İyi İngilizce bilen bir mezun olarak iş hayatına başladığım için diğer adaylara göre 1-0 önde başladım diyebilirim. AGÜ’de aldığım İngilizce eğitim sayesinde Yurt dışı is mülakatlarında zorlanmadım ve daha kolay kendimi ifade etme sansım oldu” dedi.
“I had a head start on other candidates because I entered into business world as a graduate with a good command of English. Thanks to my English education at AGU, I did not have any troubles at job interviews abroad and could express myself better.”
