The Community Foundation is a non-proďŹ t organization that manages and distributes charitable giving in the Rappahannock River region. Our goal is to promote greater philanthropy by addressing the challenges faced by donors in a responsible and knowledgeable manner. Opening a fund at The Community Foundation is easy:
The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region is a nonprofit, public charity established by local community leaders for the people of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline Counties and the City of Fredericksburg. We are a collection of many different charitable funds, each separately accounted for, and each with its own design and purpose. A typical fund is established with a gift that is invested in perpetuity and the earnings are used to make annual grants. We distribute grants from those funds throughout the Rappahannock River region in the areas of Arts and Culture, Community Development, Education, Environment, and Health and Human Services.
The Community Foundation handles all administrative details and issues grant awards to charities in the name of the donor’s fund (if you prefer, the grants can be made anonymously).

We build endowment funds that benefit the community forever by investing principal, then using the investment return to make charitable grants.
The donor will receive a tax benefit the year the gift is made.

Donors can make gifts through The Community Foundation by giving cash, appreciated stocks, real estate, or other assets. We set up a special fund in the name of the donor, family or business, or in honor of any person or organization you choose. The donor recommends uses for the fund, working with our professional grantmaking staff and Board of Governors to support the programs and agencies he or she cares about most. Donor recommendations are presented to the Community Foundation Board for approval.
