Welcome spooky inhabitants of planet earth I live in the Netherlands, a country where, unfortunately, Halloween isn’t that big of a deal. I don’t know why, but for some reason the Dutch people don’t really like spooky events. But well, I do! The last few years I’ve come to like Halloween more and more. I saw many (American) blogs filled with Halloween inspiration, watched dozens of Halloween themed movies and ofcourse I like the Halloween candy! Now that Halloween is becoming a bit more popular, tonight is the night that I’m going to my first Halloween party ever! Dressed as an alien (see the lookbook!) I will have a little pre-party with friends and candy and then hopefully we will dance all night and meet many other dressed up persons. For the people who prefer to stay home at Halloween, this HGZ Halloween Special is the perfect entertainment. Go read this special now and don’t forget to stay spooky!

WHAT TO DO ON A HALLOWEEN NIGHT IN written by Starr Yon

Halloween is a mega fun holiday that everyone loves to take part in. When I think of Halloween memories of trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, and watching Halloween specials on Disney Channel when I was younger, come rushing to my head. But as a teenager Halloween goes a little differently. The idea that trick-or-treating is lame and is for little kids is something that I have heard ever since I reached adolescence. But that is not the case! Candy is not restricted by age, don’t let the majority deceive you! As a replacement for trickor-treating most people go to parties and get shitfaced drunk, which is cool too, everyone has a preference. But even if you’re not going out, attending a Halloween party or going trick-or-treating there’s still a lot you can do to celebrate will in the comfort of your home.

1. Watch Halloween movies and show specials. Have a laidback Netflix night in but just spooky movie version! Grab your pumpkin icing cookies and witch-theme pajamas and get scary in front of the screen. Halloweentown, Carrie, Twitches, and American horror story are some of my favorite things to watch to get into the spooky Halloween mood. 2. Bake Halloween themed goodies. Playing around in the kitchen on Halloween night can be so fun! Pillsbury is so good with bringing out the black cat, ghost, and pumpkin decorated cookies every year in October and I buy them every single time. Get

dirty, bake a cake, brownies, even a pie! The best way to deal with not going out is to eat in. You can even share your sweet treats with kids who come to your door trick-or-treating. 3. Play a prank on someone! This would definitely be the cherry on top of your night in. Get a scary mask and sneak up on your family or neighbors and watch the reaction on their face. Their scared reaction will be sure to brighten up your day. No matter what it’s always funny to see someone scared. 4. Read scary stories. I love freaking myself out over creepy stories about old urban legends I find on the internet, especially fun on Halloween. Creepypasta is a website that has tons of horror and paranormal stories, that will be sure to scare the crap out of you. After spending some time on

creepypasta you might start carrying a hairbrush as a weapon around the house with you or start to think you’re hearing stuff or someone’s watching you. But it’s all in the good fun of being afraid. These are just some fun little ideas to have fun on your Halloween spent at home. Whether you’re out of the house or in remember to make sure you’re having fun because that’s what Halloween is all about!

POST HALLOWEEN SADNESS AND HOW TO HELP IT Written by Natalia Gillespie

We all know Halloween is either the best holiday or the second best after Christmas in my opinion. Instead of writing an article about how amazing and great Halloween is, let’s discuss how horrible and terrible post Halloween is. It sucks walking outside after waking up at one pm because of the long night you just spend trick or treating, partying or simply staying at home watching horror movies. You see candy wrappers line the streets and a sigh exudes your body. How are we ever going to cure this dreadful feeling? Here are some tips how! EAT ALL OF THAT CANDY Literally all of it. I’m not trying to promote unhealthy eating, but for me this is the best way to feel better. There are few things candy can’t fix. Also, if you went trick or treating you will admire all of the hard work it took to acquire it all. If you don’t already have some, go to your local CVS or Walgreens and hit up all of the amazing deals on the leftover candy. Let the chocolate melt in your mouth or pucker up from a sour ball. From Reese’s to Sour Patch Kids, nothing beats some good ol’ Halloween candy. PREPARE FOR NEXT YEAR What I mean by this is to start planning your costume and your party (or whatever else you decide you want to do). Start getting excited about the next Halloween! It works. I’m telling you. I do it all year round for Christmas. I start listening to Christmas music and making a wish list during the summer. Visit the Halloween stores before they close. Jam out to the nightmare before Christmas soundtrack and start watching Halloween movies now because why not? CREATE ART Express your emotions through your favorite art medium/s. Make a collage, paint a picture, or take some photos expressing your feelings. It can be about your sadness that Halloween has passed or about the great memories that you made in October. You don’t even have to make art (contradicting my subtitle), you can just do something you love to do, whether it’s hanging out with your friends or going shopping, make yourself happy. Halloween ending is always hard but you and the rest of us will get through it. All of these tips can apply to any situation when you are feeling down. Especially eating candy. Have a great Halloween and stay positive!
