the MANIFESTO pt3

final part of the Umbrella Manifesto. Featuring wider rules to make the world a better place. 31 - Architects should start doing things that people really need. People need old buildings, those nice IKEA cheap chairs, grandmother’s old cupboard, Rome, and some random vintage stuff. 32 - Buildings with big windows expose walking-naked people more. So the estate business should improve the way of picking up clients, by selling to grannies only small-windowed apartments. 33 - Schools should have no fire escapes if parents want to teach their children what survival is, and how to climb above the others struggling for life. 34 - Highways should have surprise holes, fake turns and strange sound effects anywhere, so people can learn to be more concentrated while driving.

35 - Cemeteries should have deeper holes to avoid any faithful departed from becoming zombies. 36 - Apartment buildings should provide people with extra space for activities such as bungee jumping, (for example from the ceiling lamp to the bed), climbing (the walls when wild wives follow their husbands), table for card games when Giulia tries to teach Briscola, and of course a detention cell, as a punishment when people are not able to learn the game. 37 - People should smoke inside, just to make the nonsmokers realize how bad smoking is and how it damages health. This is much more important for children who should take the example and the proper education since earlier age. If nonsmokers need fresh air, they can get it outdoors. Why should they expect it inside ? Why ?

38 - People are always stupid to understand the architect’s aesthetic endeavour. 39 - Architecture schools should teach students how to take wonderful helicopter shots of spanish cities, how to make vintage parody movies, how to drink responsibly, how to perform juggling on the public streets and how to make flashmobs. 40 (and the final rule) - Always, always, be creative to make up other rules or to modify these existing ones to pimp up your architectural projects.

Inspector Neufert investigates EASA

THE FUNCTION OF FUN We live stacked on top of one another with no elbow room. Danger is all around. There’s little privacy or peace and no quiet. And the world looks on all of us as project rats, living on a reservation like untouchables. – a resident of Robert Taylor Homes in 1965 I may be out of line to use this quote in a article that has the word fun in the title, but I am going to take it one more step of reality, and say that if you add fun in the quote above you get EASA. Fun or recreation is the expenditure of time in a manner designed for therapeutic refreshment of one’s body and mind. Serious fun will react as serious work. The absence of mental stress or anxiety, a harmonious relation will appear if the mind is kept content. To keep the mind content you need to: satisfy it, trigger it, challenge it, push it and relax and feed it back, amuse it. Although common opinion will say that things done for fun are without serious purpose (hence the fraze: for the fun of it) I will beg to disagree. The first definition of the word function is: a special duty, a purpose. Maybe the obvious actions of fun seem irrelevant to the obvious minds, but if we take it beyond the obvious we will come to realize that besides the obvious pleasures fun offers there is a bigger special function it serves. And this is the function of a charger. Simple. So people please next time take your fun as serious as you would your work. Don’t mess up- Have fun. EASA needs it’s fun, so let’s not force the ones responsible take actions against it just because someone partied irresponsibly.

Now that EASA 2010 is about to end, it’s time to start preparing ourselves for EASA 2011. Sunny Spain may not be as strict as rainy England, so Inspector Neufert has decided to ensure that everything will follow regulations.

INTROSPECTIVE This might seem a bit boring (less boring than Manchester review) and bad-english article, but it’s all about Easa and Easa is usually about discussing (a lot) and mostly about bad-English speakers. 480 bad-english speakers gathered this year in the land of the British accent, so things could not be peaceful.

Profoundly, this wasn’t an easy-going Easa. For everyone; organisers, tutors, ncs, old and especially new participants. It’s not always rain-breakfasttoilets-sleeping. This year it was mostly easa spirit. Easa spirit is not a slo-mo holy dove, it’s a feeling. It’s the take part of the “give and take” attitude. It is the only profit we have of a non-profit net work. In the recent NC meeting, held urEASA Mom – Dijana (Macedonia) gently at Hope Mill, easa spirit was quite questioned. This made everyone sad. Agressive participants, boredom, some who quit in the middle of the event, bad organisation. Even the most politically correct slogans “thank you a lot, you are awesome” followed by poor (also politically correct) clapping, could not hide the tension. It is not a time to complain, but to judge, but also, put some effort to help the organisers . This wasn’t an easy going Easa. What will be more interesting is it’s evaluation in the upcoming INCM @ Copenhagen. INCM’s, for those who haven’t experienced one, are small

meetings of the NC’s, held each October. NC’s talk and talk and talk among litres of beer and gin tonic, trying hard to reach consensus on several serious topics. In INCM’s NC’c form easa network. That is why INCM@Copenhagen, under the theme “COMMUNITY” will be crucial. We will have to reconsider a lot of Easa’s habits, solve hiding problems, be honest and judge what went wrong this year. Speaking up our minds honestly, is not (only) about blaming the organisers for obvious mistakes, but mostly to help next organisers to avoid them. This way we can ensure that the future of OUR community will go to safe hands and that we are able to provide the best to our participants. This wasn’t an easy going Easa. But it might be an important one. Easa is a continuous event, not a big summer party, and to keep it going maybe we needed to fall. Or at least this is a way to look in the bright side. Don’t forget, after the rain, there is always sunshine. So.. see you all in Spain!

umbrellascope! ARIES Paying more than £700 for a lollipop could be financially unsound. Opt for a mundane evening at home over a threestate crime spree. Avoid fire. TAURUS Using words may help you communicate your thoughts. Reconsider plans to have your eyelids sewn shut. Keep sulfuric acid away from children. GEMINI Don’t leave your money lying out where bad people can steal it. Eating food may supply much-needed nutrients. Resist an urge to defecate on your evening meal. CANCER Unprotected sex with people who have AIDS could have unhealthy consequences. You may regret incinerating your prize possessions. Don’t wink at psycopaths. LEO A loved one advises you to wear protective eyegear while brandishing an acetylene torch. Emitting socially unacceptable noises could spoil an intimate moment.

Dr. Love

The best love advice around EASA2010 is now coming to an end. After two weeks of fun antics and exciting adventures, new acquaintances have turned into life-long friendships and one night stands into official love affairs. Although two weeks in cold, rainy Manchester may not seem like the ideal summer holiday, the existing circumstances have definitely helped draw people closer. How else would people stay warm during the cold Manchester nights other than by having a partner to use as a ‘human heater’ anyway? Despite all the good times however Dr. Love believes that many EASA lovers will now find themselves in a dilemma. To stay together or not to stay together? Was this a one-time-only EASA fling or will it stand the test of time? The likelihood is that it was just a one-time thing and it is now time to move onto bigger and better things (literally...). If this is the case then read on for Dr. Love’s expert tips for fast and efficient heartache recovery: 1. Find someone else. And for those who didn’t succeed in either finding or seducing the hot Latino guy or the blonde Scandinavian goddess...Dr. Love is very disappointed in you. But despite your incompetence fortunately for you there’s always next

VIRGO A job could provide a useful source of income. Resist an impulse to curse out your employer. Cooperation on a key project is more effective than backstabbing. LIBRA Avoid pointing a loaded weapon at your head while cleaning it this evening. Loved ones may not appreciate suggestions that they are stupid. SCORPIO Don’t trust strangers who offer to take your money and double it. Regular breathing may help provide oxygen to the brain. Consider sleeping tonight. SAGITTARIUS You are wise not to taunt a surly motorcycle gang. Consuming a fifth of Jack Daniels could lead to trouble. Refrain from peeing in public today. CAPRICORN Avoid smashing other vehicles when driving today. An authority figure prohibits you from going 145 mph. Using the steering wheel will help get you where you want to go. AQUARIUS A puppy may make a better pet than even year. And seeing as EASA2011 is in sunny Spain...prepare for a wild one! Sea, sand, sun, sex...sweaty topless boys, tanned girls in hotpants...EASA 2011 promises to be extremely love (and lust) filled! In order to avoid even more love disappointment (how much can one person take anyway?) follow Dr. Love’s tips on how to be fully prepared for EASA2011: 1. Make sure you look sexy in your swimsuit. If you are pale, come prepared with suncream. No-one thinks lobsters are hot. 2. Memorise and practise Dr. Love’s Top Ten Pick-Up Lines © 3. Change your dance style. ‘English’ dancing will not cut it in Spain. Practise the tango, the flamenco and the Las Ketchap hit ‘Asereje’. 4. Learn to love Sangria. And most importantly to be able to hold it in... 5. Learn some very basic Spanish. The bare necessities are “Me gusta la lluvia, me gustas tu. Me gusta marijuana, me gustas tu. Me gusta la mar, me gustas tu. Me gusta la noche, me gustas tu.” Dr. Love wishes all EASA love-seekers good luck for the last two nights (all desperate seekers should find each other at info-point at 9p.m...) And remember, until next year... tenemos que mantener la difusión del amor <3

the most amiable scorpion. Reaching into boiling water could be painful. Kindness is preferable to manslaughter. PISCES Apply sunscreen when lying motionless on the beach for more than 8 hours. Too much liposuction may lead to complications. Going to the bathroom may aid your digestion.
