WORKSHOP WATCH

We have arrived at the last days of EASA, and the workshops are all finalising their work for toomorrow’s exhibitions and presentations. It has been a fantastic year for the assembly,

LIVING BOOM FURNITURE

The Sun Order workshop is trying to state the problem that architecture today is global. That means that some well known offices produce generalised global architecture. And even the other part of regional architecture is becoming “globalistic” - full of “cliches” as seen on many architectural websites. The reason being today’s architects do not live without internet. When one’ starts a project, one looks for inspiration. Then one looks at internet, looks at collection of popular architectural websites.

Oooh! EASA’s stargazers, incurable romantics... Just to refresh your memory. They spend nights watching the Nida sky full of stars... They know stars always have something to show... Walking their star treks we experienced Nocturne’s sparkling zodiac party (that was fun!) and also we had a pleasure to read their horoscope made specially for us EASiAns.

on the way to the bar, just after you exit the acomodation grounds, you turn left to go to the bar, and there’s an old building on the left. You’ll find the cube on the empty space in front of the building.

The Living Boom participants have been putting together and painting the furniture for their workshop in the main accommodation today. We can’t wait to see it on site!

The Umbrella team would like to thank everyone who contributed to the newspaper this year to make it so successful. We had a lot of fun putting it together and we hope you enjoyed reading it as much as we enjoyed making it for you! xoxo Team Umbrella

One’s projects’ inspiration comes from all over the world in a big part. Even if you use phenomenological approach for design, it is the same. The house you create from your inspiration sources can exist in Moscow, Vilnius or Berlin. For us it is interesting, that today we need orientation in global architecture like a man in the sea. And Nida is surrounded by sea. For example, when man made a boat to go to the sea, it’s like he was given freedom to sail anywhere.

But when you have freedom, you need orientation, because otherwise sailor relies on his fortune and fears chaos. Together, as a team of tutors, we want to explore in our workshop “the navigation tools for the boat” - how to connect building and site. But not with traditional methods of design from modernism or postmodernism... We would like to imagine: as part of “Not yet decided” future - if all world disconnects from internet, what will define and make the character, the architecture of buildings? We believe it is light. Sun light. Sun order. Because on each point on Earth sun angle is different. All year around very day the light is changing. Therefore we want to explore new starting points of design, test new tools related to and based on light. It would be at the same time new and old methods: as they were used for Stonehenge in England or Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.

Now, we are still walking further, following the signs of the sky beds in the octagon that is rising in a fine place by the beach, where we can smell and hear the magnificent water of the Baltic sea (not far away from the bar)...

vsOn (Vision) is building a physical framework for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality experiences. The workshop has two parts, the construction of the cube which becomes the canvas over which the digital artworks are displayed, and a digital part in which all the participants have made contributions to the very first Augmented Reality exhibition. We’ve been working on the cube for two weeks and it’s pretty much finished now. We still have to paint the faces with a pattern and hopefully the rain will stay away long enough for us to finish. For the digital part we’ve made tests on a model of the cube, so that when the cube is done we will have the exhibition ready as well. You will need an Android phone to experience the exhibition. Tomorrow you’ll find the “vsOn Augmented Reality Gallery” app on the Play Store, and you can download it to see our digital installations on the cube, with your own phone.

HANG OUT The Wake-Up Call: The Hangout team had a somewhat musical start to the day, when some team members who failed to wake up for the 7 AM trasport appointment received a visit from their colleagues who decided to wake them up with a series of really beautiful, but incredibly loud serenading. All the singing inadvertantly gave the entire east wing of the accomodation an early wake up call, but the final result was not disappointing, because by 9 AM the Hangout pavillion was all done and hung on its permanent location in the first pier to the left of the town centre.

The Users Are Gathering...

HACKING NATURE Four teams for four different and interesting objects is the result. Tomorrow the team will be on the site to install all of the structures. It’s near to the accommodation, in the forest. Don’t miss them on workshops route.

Spotted yesterday at The Living Boom pier was a local who came fishing with his son, as captured on a beautifully melancholic photo. A participant commented on the pier being his favorite fishing spot before the intervention and wondered about his thoughts on the whole thing now. We were unable to track down the fisherman for an interview, but we think he just might get used fishing from a red armchair in the future.

EASA INVENTIONS

ANNOUNCEMENTS

So many good inventions this year, people! We could barely keep track of them all, but to name a few, we’ve enjoyed the Indian rope, made for closing the door without getting out of bed (a perfect blend of inventiveness and laziness), the Georgian pipe, hand-crafted out of a forest branch, the cold post-sangria shower, straight from the bar roof, and so much more... People always get creative in closed spaces and communities, and you haven’t disaappointed! Keep up the good work all year long...

BLUEPRINT FINAL EXHIBITION opening today at Agila at 4 PM, make sure to see it before it closes on August 10th! VOICE OF EASA starting at 7 PM today on the EASA FM stage! This will be followed by MIES TV DOCUMENTARY which covers the 2016 Venice Biennale and is presented by members of the EASA community. OBSESSED FINAL EXHIBITION starting at 6 PM tomorrow in the slope hall. There will be wine. WHENEVER EXHIBITION, PERFORMANCE & FILM starting at 9 PM tomorrow in the slope hall.

ANT BANGOS DANCE FESTIVAL

Today the Dutch&Belgians were in the kitchen! Neuken in de keuken! LEKKER LEKKER LEKKER, and so GEZELLIG too! Come and get some waffles in the orange and red colored Tapaworld 3.XXX gratis for some tokens and choose your favourite topping!

We found 2 girls who arrived today in Nida for the music festival. There are already 2000 people checked in facebook that they will come in the town for listening some techno. It sounds too much for a place like Nida. After EASAians and festival-spirited people the streets here will be different .The place is “Kupolas” , near to the beach, so think about do you want to go home or maybe you’ll think about staying a little more time.

LIKE TAPALAND3.0 on FACEBOOK! VOTE for your favorite snack of EASA016, the vote BOX is in the lobby on the workshop board.

Last day for posting cards to your closest friends. We’re sure that they already missing you and waiting you too to come back to your country, but these are the last days of EASA. Don’t wait, have fun with your new friends and take how much you can for the resting time.

THE POOL LIES ABANDONED... On our last working day, the last workshops left the usually bustling worksite along the pool in order to finish their project on-site. Left behind are the rain-soaked remnants of their activity over the past two weeks; excess (or yet to be used!) pieces of timber, stray tools, bits of scrap metal, whole piles of sawdust... For the few participants trying to take a short brake from the final rush to the finishing line by checking out the workshops by the pool, the scene turned out to be quite a melancholic one. But don’t turn blue, proud EASians! It’s almost over, and your works will soon be ready for exhibiting and visiting...
