SOUNDSCAPE

Soundscape have been working on collecting the sounds of Nida over the past week. They are mapping the places where they collect sound and will aim to make an online map for Nida by the end of EASA. You will be able to click on a site and listen to the recordings of that place. The sounds have been collected at all different times during the day and night. As an addition the group are also running listening sessions. Yesterday people listened to three compositions of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and made drawings with their eyes closed. Then the drawings were compared. Join each day around 4 in the afternoon in the slope hall.

BAUMIT WORKSHOP & LECTURE

EASA’s sponsor BAUMIT held a one day workshop yesterday afternoon at the main site, where the participants involved were shown demonstrations of their versatile product ‘CreativTop’. They were then asked to create a mural using the product, that would express the essence of Nida on one of the walls of the site. You may have noticed the giant cat with laser eyes that they chose to paint! The Baumit representatives held a lecture shortly afterwards to tell us more about the company and their life challenge competition for architects.

EASA FASHION

“Not every picture is made on purpose but every picture has a code inside it.“ Nikolay Staykov (Bulgaria)

Today the Atmosphere group began a series of performances in three locations, Nida town centre, the Dune and the forest. Bringing their cube into different contexts and performing within the space attracted a few of the local’s attention. The group made models and designed the space together thinking about the platform they wanted to create for interacting with.

“Sitting surreal.”

Roisin Crawley (Scotland)

BLUEPRINT The group have spent the first couple of days preparing their dark room as it it situated in a south facing room with a glazed wall. After learning the power of darkness they moved onto making Cyanotypes. To do this you coat paper with light sensitive emulsion, take it out to the sun to cover with things and then leave in the sun to expose. Once washed this produces the blueprints as shown above. Over the last few days, they have been shooting on 35mm film and developing and printing the images themselves. EXHIBITION ON FRIDAY!

“I liked the contrast between the lonely man and the old building next to him.” Gabija Strockyte (Lithuania)

HUMANS OF NIDA

In conversation with Dominick from

ALRIGHT GHANDI pre show interview Ok so who are you? Oh wow that is a very deep question. We tried to find ourselves in the Dunes and water earlier, and we found that we are three silly people who play music, called Alright Ghandi

WORKSHOP WATCH OTHER

Have you seen the white pole next to the swimming pool? It’s like a meeting point already. The tracks from OTHER are everywhere because of the installations. Every participant is actually a tutor for a whole day and can decide totally freely where, how and why to break in the context. We are waiting for the map with all of the locations in it at the last day of EASA. It will be like a game to find them. For now you can also see their photos at the wal opposite the info point or on: facebook.com/otherworkshop other.workshop - instagram

Alright Ghandi are playing in the bar tonight, followed by a visualisation and solo set with Dominick the drummer.

What followed later on was a lot of mattress moving to terraces, stairwells and corridors. Privacy requires such effort, doesn’t it? One smiling Spanish Señor was spotted returning a mattress this morning with an Italian signore. Olé!

Vaiva and Deimante (girls from the corner shop)

Where are you from girls? From Plunge. We’re in Nida just for a summer job and because it is more beautiful and interesting here than other resort like places in Lithuania.

Gossip Cat

And you are friends? No, cousins. Deimante is younger actually. She is in high school yet. I’m studying port management 2 years for now. We’ve decided to spent time in the summer together at some good place.

What did you think when you heard of EASA? We didn’t really know anything until we got here and only right before the concert started we realised its architects. We thought, oh ok its an educated, enlighten group of people who we have to play for.

Are you from Berlin? I’m from Ohio originally but yes the band is all based in Berlin. I met the guitarist when we played in another band together, backing a singer song writer. We really clicked and one day last summer he called me and said my duo wants to be a trio, and here I am.

HUMANS OF NIDA

The paint party last night was a smash hit, with fantastically painted faces all around (you are a creative bunch, aren’t you?). As the night progressed however, a lot of that paint seemed to swap from one face to another. A hatted man was seen donating his quite liberally to a Finnish tutor in pink shoes at the bar. Close by, Lithuania and Slovakia were getting a bit too raunchy to not be noticed.

Speaking of Spain, I hope you’re all ready for tonight’s Sangria party. I know I am.

Are you staying here for long? We will be here tonight and tomorrow. After our performance as a band I will be playing a solo piece with video projections. Its a whole lot of variety!

What do you think of the spirit of this event? Well its a special place here in Nida, and its not a place we would imaging a convention to be. I hope everyone is enjoying the newness. There isn’t the hustle and bustle of the city, so I think people are able to be really free. Free to party, listen to the music or get together or whatever.

GOSSIPCAT

EASA POETRY I have never known that I had too many acquaintances in Nida. Almost everybody says 'hi man', 'how are you doing' 'hi bro' on the way.

ANNOUNCEMENTS! EASA TV - please send all your shameless videos from National Evening to the EASA TV Facebook Blueprint are holding an open Cyanotype session at the Art Colony tomorrow from 11am-1pm. All welcome to come make a print, bring natural materials such as leaves.

Today the new generation of the Maltese team will be busy doing tasty Mqaret, date-filled diamonds with vanilla ice cream and as extra some Belarusian smoothies based on kefir, blueberries and mint. Maltese dinos and new participants will help each other and chat about how each is experiencing this EASA.

EASA BIRTHDAYS!!

Umbrella wishes a very happy to you:

Tanja Trkulja

(Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Probably you’ve noticed that in the last week here are more young people? [Laughing] Yes... everybody is coming here for a beer. Only for that? Basically ... and maybe for cigarettes too, cheese and some chips.
