SUN ORDER

The participants of Sun Order have been busy working with different exercises exploring light through a vast range of materials and methods. Follow their progress on - www.instagram.com/sun_order/ - www.facebook.com/sunorder/

FISH SHOP

Head towards the pier and turn left by the restaurant Kaštonas. Follow the path beside the lagoon until you reach a hut with lots of delicious smoked fish inside. For only € 3.50 you can get a large local fish, similar to the kind used by Scotland at Tappaland. Umbrella brought the fish to share with the Living Boom who needed an energy boost!

GIFTING ENVIRONMENTS

Umbrella popped in on the School yesterday to see how the Gifting Environments team were getting on. The participants have split into three groups to test their ideas. It was great to see the workshop 3D sketching their ideas at 1:1. They were using scrap material without cutting it, just joining pieces together to give a sense of space. It seems that so much of our work as architects is on paper or computers before anything is built, and it then has to be perfect. For a project like this, which is engaging with a local group of people (mainly children) it seems the most appropriate way to show ideas. The children of the school will now get to climb on the driftwood like structures and test which one they like best, or give ideas to improve them. Walk over the school if you get a chance and have a look at the three models. On Monday at 10am they will show their work to the locals for discussion.

WORKSHOP HELP

Hello sweet folks, I am in BluePrint workshop and we are taking some pictures with film. I need one or two girls who can be nude. The picture will be 3 guys and 2 girls running to the water in the beach during the night and I will take the picture from behind so nobody will recognise them. Thanks. repeated workshop of EASA that did not make it on the list this year. The workshop was based around solving problems around the site of EASA and local area with small builds. This year, just look around you it happens informally, notice how little things have been modified and try something yourself. We have already spotted a string loo roll holder, the FM dancefloor and one of the hard working organisers Kipras roaming around making sinks and fixing things. “Small interventions can make a big difference but can big interventions make a small difference?” Deep thoughts from Sleep deprived Kipras

WORKSHOP WATCH BRING NIDA FULL CIRCLE

On Friday at the art colony, the Bringing Nida Full Circle workshop held their midterm presentation and played The Game of Powers for the first time with representatives of the community and a few other tutors and participants from EASA. The team has been working really hard, exploring in depth the various influences which shaped Nida as a community and trying to overcome the challenges yet to be faced in Nida’s future with an emphasis on reusing and recycling, and are really keen on consulting with the locals on every step of the project. The presentation was successful, with very positive feedback from the community, but it was unfortunately poorly attended by EASians, tutors and participants alike, so try not to miss their future events, as Umbrella will, of course, keep you posted on their upcoming escapades.

You’ve been ever more lax about your choices of where and when to do the deed, but Just remember when using the shower cubicles to show some courtesy to the clean up team who are waiting for you to finish. Some of the EASA males have begun locking horns over the females, and one of our organisers now has two Irish rogues vying for her affections. Will she surrender to their lucky charms? Of course I must also mention the recent arrival of a certain German Dino, who has already conquered one of the umbrella team. This man is only warming up people, you have been warned.

HUMANS OF NIDA

Hello my naughty naughty EASA children. All it takes is a few mojitos to turn you all into mischief monsters, and Gossip cat is salivating in anticipation of your upcoming National Evening antics.

That’s all for now, good luck to you all tonight. I’ll be watching carefully.

THE LIVING BOOM

Working hard as always on the third pier down from Nida centre are the Living Boom. The structures, which some of you may have seen being fabricated at the accommodation are now fixed to the pier. Alongside this comes the start of the red paint, covering the floor. The group are recording their process with a timelapse camera. So come and be famous, dance with Umbrella on the red square.

GOSSIPCAT

ON WEDNESDAY I know you all have a lot to think about with the upcoming events [cough cough national evening] but don’t forget to tell your NC that you want to come to Sangria night. It costs €5 and will have three stages this year. Firstly, Tapas will be served for dinner, followed by a team walk to the beach to watch the sunset and learn to Salsa dance. Finaly the games with commence with more dancing at the bar! Of course all of this will be accompanied by a few tasty glasses of Sangria.

THE DUNE RANGER

Yesterday we unexpectedly stumbled upon one of Nida’s own dune rangers, but her job description is not what you’d expect; Veronika Tarasečiutė (22) works every day from 9 AM to 7 PM and walks around the dune park, making sure people stay on their own side of the fence. Since each person climbing the steep sides of the dune shifts several tons of sand (as calculated by scientists), the great Parnidis dune actually shrunk 10 meters over the past 30 years, Veronika’s work is vital for the preservation of the dune. But since the people at the dune were pretty responsible - at least on the day we visited - Veronika spent her day mainly walking around the park and reading a book on a bench by the path, which is where we found her. Originally from Kaunas in the heart of Lithuania, the drama student first came to Neringa while working as an extra on a film being shot here. There she met her future employer by accident, and unexpectedly came back for the summer. Her interests are varied, and last summer she was in Russia, at a project called Mission Siberia, the participants of which were visiting old Lithuanian cemeteries in Siberia, where whole Lithuanian communities deported in the past lie buried. The thing she loves most about her work are the wonderful views, but she hates the (sometimes) extreme weather, as she is required to mind the dunes come sun or rain.
