Gwinnett County is the second-most populous county in the state of Georgia and boasts a population of nearly 900,000 people and includes the cities of Auburn, Berkeley Lake, Buford, Dacula, Duluth, Grayson, Lilburn, Loganville, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Snellville, Sugar Hill and Suwanee. Lawrenceville, which is home to Georgia Gwinnett College, is the county seat. The county contains some of the best entertainment options in the Atlanta metro area, from the Aurora Theatre, to the Infinite Energy Center, which has drawn in such acts as Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. For sports fans, in addition to being close to major sports teams in Atlanta, Lawrenceville also has professional teams in the AAA Gwinnett Braves and Atlanta Gladiators hockey team. For shoppers, Buford’s Mall of Georgia is the largest in the state, and Lawrenceville’s Sugarloaf Mills offers unique dining and entertainment options.

Lawrenceville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area, which ranks as the ninth-largest in the United States. In addition to being one of the most accessible cities to visit in the country, it also serves as the cultural and entertainment hub of the Southeast. The city was the host of the 1996 Summer Olympics and boasts major professional sports teams in the Braves, Falcons and Hawks, and the city will add a Major League Soccer franchise in 2017. Other attractions include the worldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s largest aquarium and a number of museums that highlight the cityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s historical significance during both the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement. The city also offers some of the best music, dining and shopping attractions in the country.

GRIZZLY ATHLETICS Georgia Gwinnett College founded the Office of Athletics with the hiring of Director of Athletics Dr. Darin S. Wilson on July 28, 2011, and over that time, the Grizzlies have become a truly dominant force within the NAIA.

The first athletic events took place on August 25, 2012, with a soccer doubleheader against Tennessee Temple, which saw the men and women combine to beat the Crusaders 21-1. The impressive athletic achievements have continued ever since, highlighted by back-to-back NAIA championships by the men’s tennis team. The women’s tennis team also won a national championship in its first season of eligibility in 2014, while men’s soccer, baseball and softball have each taken home A.I.I. titles over the past two seasons. All six Grizzly teams have achieved All-Americans over the past two years, and GGC squads are consistently ranked among the nation’s top 25.

FACILITIES

The Grizzly Athletics Complex, complete with facilities for baseball, softball and soccer as well as a 25,000-square-foot administration building, was completed in 2013. The complex, which sits adjacent to the main entrance to campus, was built in a step-like manner to take advantage of the natural topography and welcome the GGC community and visitors to campus. The Grizzly Soccer Complex was the first to open and features a synthetic-turf playing surface with ample bleacher and hillside seating. The Grizzly Baseball and Softball Complexes feature natural grass fields, full dugouts and press boxes. The baseball stadium seats 800 and the softball stadium can accommodate 500. The main Athletics building hosts coachesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; and administrative offices, team locker rooms and meeting rooms, a weight room, sports medicine facilities, hospitality suites and a dedicated academic support center. The nearby GGC Tennis Facility features 16 fullylit playing courts, locker rooms, player lounges, a weight room and a pro shop, and sits just a half mile away from the main Athletics Complex.

Inaugural Director of Athletics National Athletics Director of the Year Dr. Darin S. Wilson established the Office of Athletics at Georgia Gwinnett College in late 2011 with the vision of being one of the nation’s premier programs. Off to an incredibly quick start, the Grizzlies are in the process of becoming just that. The Grizzlies seek to develop lifelong leaders of character through academic and athletic excellence, inspired by Wilson’s devotion to the student-athlete experience. He has instilled the program’s five core values of Service, Responsibility, Leadership, Sportsmanship and the Pursuit of Excellence. Committed to the idea of continuing professional development, Wilson holds a number of influential positions within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and helps shape policy at the organization’s highest levels. He currently serves on the NAIA’s National Administrative Council, as well as on the NAIA’s Athletic Directors Association Executive Committee. Additionally, he is on the Executive Committee of the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.), of which GGC is a member. Wilson’s drive to provide an unparalleled student-athlete experience committed to character-driven intercollegiate athletics has resulted in tremendous early success for the Grizzlies, who currently field teams in baseball, softball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s tennis. In under four seasons, the Grizzlies have already captured three NAIA national championships, five A.I.I. championships and an NAIA Champions of Character team award. In addition, dozens of student-athletes have earned All-American status, Scholar-Athlete recognition and President’s List distinction. During the program’s very first season of postseason eligibility in 2013-14, four of the Grizzlies’ six teams competed in the NAIA national tournament, each reaching a national top-10 ranking. Eighteen players secured All-American status over the course of the year and the men’s and women’s tennis teams delivered GGC’s first-ever national titles on May 17, 2014, in Mobile, Ala. Through three-plus seasons on the field, the Grizzlies have far exceeded expectations with a 405-163-12 (.698) overall record across all sports through Fall 2015, earning a pair of conference championships in men’s soccer, plus one each in men’s tennis, baseball and softball. For much of this success, and his impact on the student-athlete experience, Wilson was recognized with his second career Under Armour NAIA Athletics Director of the Year Award in summer, 2015. The Grizzlies also have successfully bid for and hosted postseason championships in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball and baseball, with men’s and women’s tennis joining that list in spring 2016.

Student-athletes at Georgia Gwinnett College compete at the state-of-the-art Grizzly Athletics Complex, a $15 million facility which features baseball, softball, soccer and tennis complexes, plus a 25,000-square-foot Athletics building with staff offices, team locker rooms, a weight room, training areas, hospitality suites and academic resource space. Wilson was instrumental in the concept, development and construction phases of the entire project, delivering the Grizzlies one of the nation’s elite athletic complexes. Wilson chairs GGC’s intercollegiate athletics committee, and with Wilson’s leadership, the college successfully completed admission into the NAIA in April of 2012. August 25, 2012 marked the historic Opening Day for Grizzly Athletics, with a pair of men’s and women’s soccer victories highlighting the occasion. Wilson looks forward to the athletic program’s continued growth and progress at a rapid rate. He brought a wealth of experience to his position as GGC’s first Director of Athletics, coming from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. He had served as the athletics director since 2003, following a five-year stint as baseball coach. His departure ended 18 years of involvement with Union, from an undergraduate student-athlete to leading the athletics program.

For his accomplishments, Wilson was selected as the 2010-2011 NAIA National Athletics Director of the Year in the spring of 2012. He was recognized as the AAC Athletic Director of the Year in 2008, 2009 and 2011, the NAIA Region XII Athletic Director of the Year in 2008, and the 2009-10 NAIA Under Armour AD of the Year for the Southeast Region by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Wilson’s time as a coach and player at Union were marked by success as well. He posted a 161-106-1 baseball coaching record and was named the 2001 Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year, setting a school record with 41 wins. As an undergraduate, Wilson was selected as Male Athlete of the Year while playing for Union. His collegiate playing career began on the diamond at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Wilson has a master’s in education from Union College and a Ph.D. in higher education leadership from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He resides in Gwinnett Countyy with his wife, Natalie, and has two children, Drew and Mara.

During Wilson’s time at Union, the college won 47 Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships, four Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference titles, and six NAIA Region XII championships. Union was awarded the AAC Duard Walker All-Sports Trophy for the first time in school history in 2010. Forty-seven players were named NAIA ScholarAthletes, and four players were selected as CoSIDA Academic All-America Team members. Wilson oversaw extensive renovation of Union’s sports facilities, including baseball and football locker room remodels, new scoreboards and press boxes, the installation of a $1 million synthetic turf multi-purpose field, and the expansion of athletic training facilities. The athletics overhaul made Union’s facilities some of the best in the NAIA. Wilson also grew Union’s department of athletics from 15 intercollegiate programs to 23, while effectively revitalizing

Head Coach Head Coach Fourth Season 4TH SEASON Tennessee Temple ‘95 The first-ever head coach of the Georgia Gwinnett College baseball program, Brad Stromdahl (STROM-doll) has wasted little time building the Grizzlies into a national contender. Stromdahl has amassed a 133-52 (.719) record over the team’s first three seasons in his first stint as a collegiate head coach. The Grizzlies have posted back-to-back 50-plus-win seasons in each of their first two full seasons of national eligibility. In Stromdahl’s time, the Grizzlies have already reached an Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series, claimed a No. 1 ranking in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) coaches’ poll, captured an Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) championship and boasted an NAIA Player of the Year. Additionally, four Grizzlies have already been drafted by Major League Baseball organizations. Stromdahl earned A.I.I. Coach of the Year honors following both the 2014 and 2015 seasons. In 2015, Stromdahl led Georgia Gwinnett to the top of the NAIA in a number of statistical categories en route to a 50-14 record. The Grizzlies finished first in the nation in stolen bases (209) and most strikeouts on the mound (545). GGC was second in the nation with 549 runs scored, 735 total hits and 495 runs batted in. The team also finished in the top 10 in total triples (34), runs scored per game (8.58) and team batting average (.339). Led by the NAIA Player of the Year Ty Abbott, the 2015 GGC team reached the program’s first-ever No. 1 ranking. The Grizzlies ultimately finished just one win shy of a second consecutive trip to the NAIA World Series, making it to the final game of the Lawrenceville Bracket as the Grizzly Baseball Complex played host to the NAIA Baseball National Championships Opening Round for the second straight year. Abbott, a senior infielder from Milton, Ga., led the nation in total hits (106) and runs batted in (93) on his way to earning A.I.I. Player of the Year honors as one of five Grizzlies on the all-conference first team. Stromdahl was named A.I.I. Coach of the Year in 2015 for the second straight year. Following the successful season, senior righthanded reliever Christian Turnipseed was selected in the 28th round of the MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles, becoming the second Grizzly reliever in as many years to be drafted by the Orioles. In 2014, the very first year of postseason eligibility for GGC, Stromdahl’s squad racked up 53 victories en route to the program’s first-ever berth to the Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series. The Grizzlies, who started off the postseason run by winning the A.I.I. tournament championship for the first time, ended the year with a No. 7 national ranking, and Stromdahl was named Coach of the Year by the A.I.I, ABCA NAIA East Region and Georgia Dugout Club. Eight players on the team were named to an all-conference team, with Tyler Carpenter becoming the first baseball player in school history to earn national honors after being named All-America Honorable Mention. Carpenter was also one of three Grizzlies to be selected in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft, getting picked in the 25th round by the Anaheim Angels. He was joined by 23rd-round picks John Fidanza and Zeke McGranahan, who were chosen by the Arizona Diamondbacks and Baltimore Orioles, respectively. Another player, Phillip Bates signed a contract with the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League. Stromdahl’s 2014 GGC squad led the nation in a host of team categories, finishing first in triples (35) and second in 11 categories, including runs scored (589), runs batted in (516), total hits (723) and stolen bases (201). The Green and Gray also put together a 20-game winning streak during and became the first NAIA team to reach 40 victories in posting a 44-9 regular season record. The season also featured a 2-0 record against eventual Avista-NAIA

World Series champion Cumberland (Tenn.), and saw GGC peak at No. 4 in the national poll. In 2013, the first season in school history and one in which GGC was ineligible to reach the postseason or appear in national rankings, Stromdahl led the Grizzlies to a 30-win campaign. The year was highlighted by a GGC offense that outscored its opponents by nearly 100 runs and posted a .314 batting average. Georgia Gwinnett picked up two wins over ranked opponents on the year, including a 6-1 decision over eventual NAIA national champion Tennessee Wesleyan. The Grizzlies were tasked with playing their first 15 games on the road as their new on-campus stadium was completed. A 6-2 victory over Rochester (Mich.) on March 9, 2013, served as the opening game for the state-of-the-art Grizzly Baseball Complex and the first-ever intercollegiate baseball game played on campus at Georgia Gwinnett College. Since that day, the Grizzly Baseball Complex has served as the beautiful home for Stromdahl’s program, complete with one of the finest playing surfaces in the country, multiple amenities and a location just steps away from the weight room, locker room and athletic training facilities of the Grizzly Athletics main building. Prior to GGC, Stromdahl served as assistant coach for the baseball program at NCAA Division I Georgia State University, helping the squad achieve extraordinary success. For five seasons while Stromdahl served as recruiting coordinator and offensive coach, the Panther offense batted at a .319 clip as Panther players set eight new offensive single season records and 11 new career offensive records. He was instrumental in amassing top Division I recruiting classes, finishing inside the nation’s top 50 the past three seasons. In 2011, the Panther offense ranked among the best in the nation at reaching base safely, finishing second in the Colonial Athletic Association with a .401 on-base percentage. The team secured a league-high 294 walks to place ninth in the NCAA, while four offensive players went on to be named All-Conference selections at season’s end. In 2010, Stromdahl oversaw the greatest offensive season in the history of the program as the Panthers led the nation in batting average for much of the season. The Panthers led the NCAA in runs scored per game and sacrifice flies, and they finished third in team batting average at .351. With Stromdahl’s guidance, the offense broke nearly every team single-season record on the books at Georgia State. After graduating 12 seniors from the year prior, Stromdahl helped lead the 2010 squad to 34 wins, the second most in school history, while watching a record six players earn All-CAA honors. The team broke GSU’s records for batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, total bases, RBIs, base on balls, conference wins, conference winning percentage and home winning percentage.

record 39 games, earned its first-ever CAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Regionals. Additionally, the Panthers set school records, for the second straight year, for runs, hits and RBIs. Moreover, Stromdahl’s support of academic excellence led to another victory as the players maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.01. Prior to GSU, Stromdahl spent three seasons at Central Michigan University. With the Chippewas, Stromdahl’s primary responsibilities were hitting instruction, working with infielders and assisting with recruiting. During Stromdahl’s time at CMU, the offense led the Mid-American Conference in over half of the offensive categories each season. CMU made three MAC Tournament appearances and won the MAC regular-season title in 2004. In 2005, the Chippewas finished with a 42-18 overall record and fell in the championship game of the conference tournament. Stromdahl’s additional experience includes time at Southwest Minnesota State (1999-2002), coaching with legendary coach Paul Blanchard, and Marshall University (2003), as well as coaching for the Coastal Plain League (2004) and Northwoods League (2006). Stromdahl played collegiately for two seasons at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn., for legendary coach Art Westphal. He then spent two seasons playing for the Division II SMSU Mustangs before pursuing a career in professional baseball for two years. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from SMSU in 2002 and a master’s degree in sports administration from CMU in 2006. Stromdahl, who grew up in Napa, Calif., finished high school in Minocqua, Wis. He married the former Tessa Rieger in December 2006. The couple has two sons, Leo William, who was born in August 2011, and Hugo Walter, who was born in September 2014, and resides in the Atlanta area.

A native of Zachary, La., catcher John Fidanza made history on June 7, 2014, by becoming the first Grizzly player to be selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Fidanza played 51 games for the Grizzlies in 2014, his lone season with the Green and Gray. The stellar defensive catcher with a laser-like arm threw out 17 of the 33 runners who tried to steal against him during the 2014 season. At the plate, the switch hitter drove in 29 runs with seven doubles and was named to the Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series All-Tournament Team. An injury prevented him from signing with the Diamondbacks, but he played 41 professional games in 2015 with the Frontier Leagueâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Washington Wild Things.

ZEKE MCGRANAHAN 2014 Baltimore Orioles

A native of Durham, N.C., reliever Zeke McGranahan was taken with the very next pick after Fidanza in the 2014 draft, becoming GGCâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s second-ever selection. A force out of the bullpen, the all-conference closer had seven saves in his one season with the Grizzlies. McGranahan made a team-high 30 appearances during the 2014 year, recording a 2.12 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 34.0 innings. He held opposing batters to a .189 average at the plate. In his first two professional seasons, he appeared with the Gulf Coast League Orioles (Rk.), the Aberdeen Ironbirds (A-) and the Delmarva Shorebirds (A).

A right-handed pitcher from Milton, Ga., Carpenter was one of the most impactful players in the early history of the GGC squad. Tossing 173.0 innings over the first two years of the program, Carpenter earned allconference and NAIA All-American honorable mention accolades. He set program marks for career ERA (3.23) and strikeouts (166) in starting 26 times. Carpenter appeared with the Orem Owlz (Rk.), Arizona League Angels (Rk.), Burlington Bees (A) and Inland Empire 66ers (A+) over his first two professional seasons.

For the second consecutive year, the Orioles organization selected a Georgia Gwinnett closer as Powder Springs, Ga., native Christian Turnipseed was taken by Baltimore in 2015 after one stellar season in the GGC bullpen. The right-hander set new single-season marks for the Grizzlies with 10 saves and a 1.50 ERA, holding opposing batters to a .100 average while going 5-0. Turnipseed struck out 60 batters in 36.0 innings of work, earning first team all-conference accolades and ranking among the nationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leaders. He pitched for the Gulf Coast League Orioles (Rk.) and Aberdeen Ironbirds (A-) in his first professional season and did not allow a run in over 28 innings.

Joliet Slammers - Frontier League (Independent) A former outfield standout who ranks among the most productive Grizzlies in program history, Phillip Bates has shined with the Joliet Slammers outside Chicago. He played in 72 games in the 2015 season, scoring 48 runs.

National Player of the Year Ty Abbott headlined the group of 34 individuals named to the NAIA first and second team All-American list on June 1, 2015. Abbott led the Grizzlies to a 50-14 record – their second-consecutive season with 50-or-more wins – and an appearance in the NAIA Baseball National Championships Opening Round for the second-straight year.

The senior first baseman concluded the year ranked among the top 50 nationally in 16 statistical categories, including leading the NAIA in at-bats (248), RBIs (93) and hits (106). Abbott ended the season on a 12-game hitting streak and recorded multi-hit performances in 33-of-63 games. He stands as the first-ever Grizzly to receive the honor.
