NEW S OF T H E WORL D L EA DER IN ESS ENTIAL OI L S

We’re the leaders in the modern essential oils movement—but what does that mean? See the impact for yourself!

A MESSAGE FROM MARY 25 YEARS OF CHANGING Happy New Year, Everyone! We closed 2018 with a bang with conventions in the Czech Republic, Mexico, and Canada and the ribbon cuttings for the openings of China and the Philippines. But the grand finale was the World Percheron Congress when our teams took First Place—Grand Champion in several classes of competition. This was Gary’s dream for probably the last 10 years. What a glorious moment for Jason Goodman and Tim Sparrow and their staff as they anxiously waited in the arena to hear that announcement. Now a whole new demographic of horse lovers is asking, “What is Young Living? What are essential oils? They use oils on their horses? Who are these people? We want to know more.” This is exactly what Gary envisioned as his thirst increased to bring this kind of excitement to our farm in Mona. People will come from all over the world to see our horses. But wait, “You grow plants here and you have a distillery? What kind of farm is this?” It’s going to be interesting to see how this story is written. This new year brings much excitement as we celebrate 25 years of seeing the amazing growth of Gary’s dream. Did he know it was coming? He certainly did. In that old, dilapidated, 8,000-square-foot building, the first Young Living “global” headquarters, Gary said to me that one day we would be bigger than Amway—and I laughed. Not only will we celebrate our 25 Years Young at this year’s convention in July, but we will also cut the ribbon for our state-of-theart, amazingly beautiful, 250,000-square-foot Global Headquarters just before the 2019 International Grand Convention. Please join us in this historic celebration to recognize each other’s success as we unite as one global family in this glorious moment and the spreading of our great mission around the world that one man, Gary Young, made possible for all of us. Let us honor him, even with our feelings of deep sorrow and loss, for surely, he is still with us; and with his all-pervading knowing, he rejoices in spirit watching us as we carry forward this great mission to serve God’s children. With love and appreciation,

THE WORLD

AYoungHELPING HAND AFTER HURRICANE MICHAEL Living supports members and communities in the wake of Hurricane Michael

The Young Living family takes action to support communities affected in the Florida Panhandle On October 10 Hurricane Michael made history as the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle’s history. This storm ripped through cities, leaving homes, schools, and workplaces decimated. The families and communities still affected months later are working tirelessly to repair and rebuild homes, clean up their neighborhoods, and—most importantly—get back to life as usual. PAG E 1

The amount of resources and manpower needed to help those in need after a natural disaster of this caliber is staggering and demands as many boots on the ground as possible. The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation is grateful for the generosity of Young Living members like you, who have made it possible to support members and communities as they begin to rebuild their lives. Your donations help the Young Living Foundation support organizations such as The Sonder Project, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through food security, clean water, and education. When Hurricane Michael struck the organization’s own backyard, they assembled resources and volunteers, distributing hands-on cleanup teams, as well as food and other necessary resources to those who lost everything. The Foundation donated $5,000 to support The Sonder Project’s efforts, which included mucking homes, tarping roofs, and connecting skilled electricians to those still without power. Disaster relief fund donations also support fellow members of the Young Living family through the

YL SETS ITS SIGHTS ON ZERO WASTE IN FIVE YEARS

Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer Matthew French has some inspiring insights on sustainability

Young Living is humbled by its responsibility and visibility as an industry green leader. As we continue to share the health and wellness benefits of pure, authentic essential oils, we’ve set our sights on taking our global operations to zero waste in the next five years. The Essential Edge had the opportunity to sit down with Matthew French, Young Living’s chief legal and sustainability officer, who will oversee the newly created YL Green Team. Here’s what he said about Young Living’s initiative to achieve zero waste. Essential Edge: What are some of Young Living’s plans to achieve zero waste within the next five years? Matthew French: In 2019 we plan to begin the implementation of a number of environmentally sustainable initiatives, which will include taking our key operations—including manufacturing, shipping, and distillation—to zero waste. We’re also excited to move into our new LEED-certified Global Headquarters and maintain that certification. It’s also important to encourage others to live environmentally

friendly, so we're teaching our employees and members how they can adopt environmentally friendly practices in their own lives. EE: What are the benefits of achieving zero waste? MF: As leaders in the essential oils movement, we’re setting an example for the direct selling industry and others across the globe. Through sound business investments in sustainable initiatives and zero-waste practices, we will become even more efficient, helping us improve communities and aid in bettering our planet. In addition to our zero-waste efforts, we’ve identified ways we can be more sustainable and will be adding to our zero-waste goal to include projects like carbon offset, renewable energy, and other green practices. EE: Why is this green initiative so important to Young Living? MF: We’re making an investment in the future of Young Living, our employees, and members. Adopting environmentally friendly practices and working toward zero waste will reduce negative impacts and ensure that we’re taking care of the world and its natural resources. We’re setting ourselves up to continue our mission to bring essential oils to every home worldwide for decades to come! EE: How can individuals come closer to zero waste? MF: We can all start by becoming more conscious of what we’re throwing away and educating ourselves on what materials we should be refusing, reducing, reusing, or recycling. It’s important to be aware of what you’re buying and come up with creative ways to reuse items. Even the small efforts will positively impact our environment. Continued from page 1 distribution of care kits. Members who have endured total loss, such as losing their homes and belongings, are eligible for a care kit. These kits include necessities to help clean up after flooding, as well as rejuvenating essential oils.. In aiding those affected by this storm, members of the Young Living family have also stepped up to help their neighbors! Young Living Foundation ambassador Chase Harrison, along with members Tina Ciesla and Luisa Garcia, collected donated supplies, including Thieves® Household Cleaner, personal hygiene products, and essential oils with uplifting scents. They used their resources to find the names of affected members in the Panama City area and drove in to distribute these supplies to the grateful members. If you are interested in helping fellow Young Living members impacted by Hurricane Michael, there are a few ways you can contribute. Discover 21 creative ways to reuse essential oil bottles It’s always hard when you hit rock bottom—the bottoms of your beloved essential oil bottles, that is. Good news! Your love of those little amber bottles doesn’t have to end with the last drop of essential oil. We’ve compiled a list of over 20 uses for empty essential oil bottles. Here are a few of our favorites! 1. Design a centerpiece: Add one or two flowers and turn empty oil bottles into bud vases. 2. Put together an essential oil travel kit: Place smaller amounts of the oils you use most in empty 5-ml bottles. Put the collection in a cosmetic bag so it’s ready to go when you’re ready to travel! 3. Freshen your drawers or closets: Remove the lid of a nearly empty bottle and infuse a space with its aroma. Make sure to position the bottle so it won’t tip—you wouldn’t want to spill oil on your favorite sweater! 4. Add ambiance with string lights: Thoroughly clean your empty bottles, remove the oil dropper and all parts of the cap, and gently press a bottle over each bulb on a string of lights. Our amber bottles are a great way to jazz up your twinkly lights! For the full list of 21 creative ways to reuse empty essential oil bottles, head to the Lavender Life blog at YoungLiving.com/ blog and search “reuse.” Take time to browse the comments; our members have also come up with some creative ways to reuse their beloved amber bottles!

CITRUS YOGURT PANNA COTTA INGREDIENTS For the panna cotta: 1 cup regular coconut milk ½ vanilla bean, split lengthwise, seeds scraped 1½ teaspoons unflavored powdered gelatin 3 tablespoons honey Give a warm welcome to the Vida de Seville Distillery! We’re hitting the ground running with our 5×5 Pledge, and our partnership with the Vida de Seville Distillery will take us one step closer to achieving our goal! Located in Almaden de la Plata in Seville, Spain, less than an hour away from Seville city, this distillery crafts some essential oil favorites—Cistus, Frankincense, and Myrrh. This partnership helps us sustainably keep up with demand for these essential oils. The Vida de Seville Distillery is a perfect fit for Young Living. From D. Gary Young’s 20-year-long relationship with the owners to their distillation and zerowaste practices, we’re confident that this distillery meets our stringent Seed to Seal® quality commitment. We wholeheartedly believe in preserving nature and giving back to the community. This distillery promotes hiring local personnel living in Almaden de la Plata and uses discarded wood from local forest maintenance in a wood boiler instead of cutting down trees. These locally hired workers also handpick the carefully wildcrafted cistus from protected government land, including the Sierra Norte Nature Park. This ensures that we’re producing the highest-quality products sustainably from nature to your home! We’re excited about this exclusive partnership with the Vida de Seville Distillery that allows us to continue providing trusted products worldwide. Learn more at SeedtoSeal.com.
