WINTER 2009

Southwest Medical Guide Winter 2009 2008-09 has been a year of change in the Douglas medical community. It started with the closing of one longtime clinic, Arizona Family Care Associates (AFCA), and continued with changes in services at the remaining clinics, doctors changing affiliations and new physicians moving to the community. The area is currently served by four clinics, including two operated by the area hospital, Southeast Arizona Medical Center: √ Southeast Medical Center Clinic, located at 1906 11th Street. √ Community Healthcare of Douglas Clinic, located at the hospital at 2174 W. Oak Avenue in Douglas. √ Copper Queen Medical Associates, located at 100 E. Fifth Street and affiliated with Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee. √ Chiricahua Community Health Center is located at the corner of 11th Street and F Avenue in Douglas and has clinics in Elfrida and Bisbee.

Southeast Arizona Medical Center, 2174 W. Oak.

Hospital centerpiece of medical care in Douglas Continuing education and striving to become better are two of the main goals of Southeast Arizona Medical Center, all the while maintaining the highest healthcare standards for the residents of Douglas and surrounding communities. Built in 1905 in the present location, and known as Cochise County Hospital, the hospital would on average have 100 patients checked-in. Southeast Arizona Medical Center provides general medical and surgical care for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room patients, and participates in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Emergency room services are available on a 24-hour per day, seven-day per week basis. Chiricahua has medical services throughout area Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. was founded in August of 1996. Jennifer "Ginger" Ryan worked with local community members in the development of a grassroots movement to bring quality affordable healthcare to the residents of the Sulphur Springs Valley. This group received their first grant in 1996 which enabled them to form a 501c3 non-profit, with a volunteer board of directors. This in turn allowed the organization to initiate health services in the Elfrida Community Center. The local community center was "creatively redesigned" to create a clinic like atmosphere with reception, administration, patient rooms, laboratory and sup-

port services under one roof. It wasn't until 1999, that the first permanent clinic was built on the property to the north of the existing Community Center/Clinic site. On August 12, 2003, this facility was dedicated to one of the founding board members, Cliff Whetten. In 2001, the second health center opened in Douglas, Arizona. In 2003, Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. added an additional clinic in Bisbee, as well as a Mobile Medical Unit that traveled throughout Cochise County enabling patients who faced geographic as well as financial barriers to receive quality affordable healthcare. In December 2005, Chiricahua Communi-

ty Health Centers, Inc. expanded its services again by opening its newest and largest clinic in their system, the Jennifer "Ginger" Ryan clinic. This facility enabled the organization to provide extended hours as well as extended services such as pediatric care. In the summer of 2006, Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. added a Mobile Dental Unit in order to provide preventive dental services to the children of the Sulphur Springs Valley. Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. provides accessible, affordable, comprehensive, quality, primary health and dental care in an atmosphere of respect, dignity and cultural sensitivity. Our mission is to

provide quality, efficient healthcare to all in Cochise County regardless of the individual's ability to pay. Chiricahua Community Health Centers currently provides services in the following locations: √ Elfrida √ Douglas √ Bisbee √ Willcox √ Benson √ Tombstone √ Sierra Vista √ Dragoon
