How to take part in Culture Crawl. This Map is your guide to Doncaster’s first Culture Crawl event.

It’s up to you what you decide to visit and explore on the night but, if you are a hardcore Culture Vulture, we recommend meeting at C-view at 5pm and following the route in numerical order, exploring each venue as you go.

This project has been supported by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council (DMBC) in collaboration with local businesses and artists. It’s a free night out but please make sure to visit our brilliant local venues such as The Queen Crafthouse & Kitchen, The Marketplace Alehouse & Deli, The Salutation, The Mason’s Arms, No.7 The Rum Rooms, The Magdalen, The Regent Hotel, Doncaster Brewery Tap, The Little Plough, The Draughtsman, Tut n Shive, The Leopard, The Hallcross, Relish and Zest. 1. C-View (Church View, DN1 1AF) Formerly Doncaster Art College, C-View is now home to artist studios and exhibition spaces. Audaciously Made in The Entrance Gallery features work by aspiring fine artists including painting and ceramics, curated by Amy Frost who is currently studying Fine Art at Bath Spa University. Born Thick is a subversive mixed media exhibition exploring new contemporary art in Doncaster in the unfurnished Summer Studio. (This exhibition contains some over 18s content and is not suitable for young children). PHD student Angie Haywood will be displaying artwork from her latest collection in the building themed on the how the iPad can be used as a transportable artists studio. 5pm-9pm

2. Frenchgate (St Sepulchre Gate, DN1 1SW) hosts “A Rich Seam”, an exhibition located on the ground floor near Sainsbury’s. This exhibition showcases the work of world class sculptor Lawrence Edwards who has been commissioned to create a mining memorial and tribute to Doncaster people both past and present. 5pm-8pm 3. The Shoe Room (Priory Walk, DN1 1TS) hosts world class illustrator Al Heighton’s “Shoe Lovers”. See Al’s love of shoes and boots come to life with as his 2D drawings become 3D characters.

4. Dreambakes (Priory Walk, DN1 1TS) hosts painter Andy Hollinghurst who will be at Priory Walk throughout the day. In the evening, Vamanos’ street food truck will be serving tacos, delicious cakes and drinks. Gluten free and vegan options available. 5:30pm-8pm

5. Knit & Stitch (Market Place, DN1 1NE) “Meet Cloth Ears!” Children’s illustrator and author Jackie Irwin will be displaying illustrations and prints, plus signing copies of her newly published children’s book. Take part in a creative workshop making your own paper ears inspired by Doncaster’s favourite hare. 5.30pm -8pm

6. Scicluna’s Deli (High Fisher Gate, DN1 1QZ) Hosts a collection of monotone digital prints by university lecturer Simon Gomes, themed on his love of blues music. World-class blues musician Frank Carline will also be performing live during the evening. 5pm -8pm 7. Doncopolitan (Copley Road, DN1 2QP) Introduces “Wonk Out Donc”, curated by exploratory music collective Wonky Planet. Expect intimate lo-fi performances from the resident Fishtank Kaos Orkestra (Mat Handley and friends), Shell Our Moon with Craig Manga, and sludge metal duo Klagg, plus audio/video installation from Raisa Watkiss and artwork from Imogen Carline. 8. Watch SPzero76 at Broxholme Lane (DN1 2LJ) This talented street artists will be completing a giant mural on the side of the 247 property. Breaking Beats will also be around running a graffiti workshop. Children from 8 years plus can have a go at spray painting. 6pm -8pm 9. The Point (South Parade, DN1 2DR) Celebrate the microscopic world of bacteria and cells with the Microbes exhibition. The gallery will transform as it becomes home to a glowing landscape of suspended inflatable microbe pods. Vibrantly colourful and enticingly tactile, visitors are encouraged to walk along them, feel them sway around you, and watch how they breathe. Microbes promises to be a fascinating artistic spectacle and not one to be missed. Child friendly activities are available as part of the exhibition. 5pm -8pm 10. Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery (Chequer Road, DN1 2AE) Explore the museum’s collections during the evening and check out the New Fringe open art show. 11. Cast (Waterdale, DN1 3BU) invites local poets and spoken word artists to take part in the Open Mic Mehfil. Mehfil is the Urdu word for a gathering of poets in an intimate setting. The event is for all and we welcome people with a passion for poetry and the spoken word. 12. The Greenhouse Eatery (Wood St, DN1 3LH) Doncaster’s only vegan restaurant is hosting live art from Ryan Maesen and caricatures from Joe Spinks. All proceeds from the event will go towards charity Last Night A DJ Saved My Life which helps to support children in crisis. 5pm -8pm 13. The Lockwood (Hall Gate, DN1 3PB) is hosting local artist Nick Boruk’s We are Blok Heds. Nick’s characters have been spotted across Doncaster in recent years and explore the best of British street style and subcultures. From 8pm onwards, DJ Mark Taylor will be on the decks spinning original Northern Soul, Mod, Ska and Motown vibes. 8pm - till late

CUltuRE CRaWL What is Culture Crawl? Culture Crawl is an alternative night out where you can immerse yourself in Donny culture, discover new venues, view and buy art made by local creatives and meet a diverse range of interesting people. The event will take place across various shops, cafes and bars in the town centre and aims to help people rediscover the town. Culture Crawl kicks off on Tuesday 24th July from 5pm onwards, What age range is Culture Crawl Suitable for? Children are welcome to attend Culture Crawl and some of the venues and locations will be providing activities for children. Not all venues are suitable and children should be accompanied by an adult at all times. How to do get there? By public transport — Doncaster is less than an hour away from Sheffield, York and Leeds and an hour and a three quarters from London, Kings Cross by train. The transport interchange connects the train and bus station to the Frenchgate Centre and the rest of town. By car — Doncaster boasts excellent links to the motorway network including the M18 link to the M1 (jnc

3/4), A1(m) (jnc 36) and the M62. Where to park? We recommend parking in the Frenchgate Centre car park. The Centre is ideally located in the heart of Doncaster with two secure car parks, a rooftop car park and a multi-storey car park. The tariff is only £1.40 per hour. How do I take part?
