The demand for high-quality printing on Wienie-Pak cellulose casings has increased dramatically during the past few years. It’s a logical trend, however, because sausage manufacturers want to maximize the appeal their products have in the eyes of consumers.
Increasing customer demand
ViskoTeepak has for some time used the flexographic printing technology for its Wienie-Pak cellulose casings. Although our Flexo printing machines have seen several technical improvements in recent years, certain limitations of the technology haven’t allowed us to fulfill the new requirements of printing quality expected by some customers. Certainly it’s important to ensure an appropriate response to the increasing demand for superior printing capability on all of our printable Wienie-Pak casing products. After all, the enhancement of visual impact at the place of purchase is something that benefits the customer, the seller and our company.
Gravure printing technology
The quality-related customer demands, however, could only be met by implementing the gravure printing technology in our production process. Accordingly, ViskoTeepak decided it was the right path to take. At our Brno facility, a project team was organized with the skills of people from different departments (Development, Continuous Improvements and Sales), who then started to collaborate on the development of a new printing-machine design. Through that team effort, a gravure printing machine was ultimately installed at our Brno converting plant.

It has significantly improved the printing quality resulting from: • Rich, colorful printing • Uniform ink distribution at higher volumes • The ability to print over large areas and em- ploy very fine lines with crisp, true edges 2. The drying system design has been improved with an upgraded drying-power control system and the new feature of regulated airflow. 3. The new winding tension control system has pro vided more accurate control possibilities during printing.
