Fabriken Furillen is a small hotel in a former factory building on the site of an old limestone quarry on a small peninsula on the north of Gotland, about an hour’s drive northeast of Visby.

The factory was shut down in the early 1970s and when fashion photographer Johan Hellström first saw it 20 years ago, it was in ruins. He had a vision though, for what it could become, and he has turned this industrial patch of land into an high-end escape, used as a hotel mainly during the Swedish summer and location for fashion photography and film during winter.

The 18 guest rooms all have Hästens beds, and a colour scheme dominated by soothing greys and white that connect seamlessly with the surrounding landscape of limestone hills, the ocean and forests of juniper and pine.

You can also stay in a 'Hermit Cabin' on the peninsula (a 20-minute bike ride from the main building), with no running water, no Wi-Fi, and freeroaming cows and sheep as your only neighbours.

Breakfast and dinner is served in the main building, in a restaurant that brings foodies from all over the world to the table.
