U.S. Superyacht Association (USSA) Sponsors, Partners and members were treated to an even more Elevated Experience during the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, thanks to the vast expansion of the exhibitor Pavilion and “Sky Lounge” at Bahia Mar. The newly reimagined Member/VIP Sky Lounge, only steps outside the Show, offered a welcome respite from the action, quality networking opportunities and provided sweeping views of the white sands of the Fort Lauderdale beach in a more open and inviting venue.

The Sky Lounge continued its standing as “The Place to Be” throughout the Show, thanks to the activation of numerous unique and targeted industry events specially curated to attract key industry sectors. These events showcased USSA member Sky Lounge partners to maximize their investment and ROI as well as provide valuable updates on critical industry issues and topics for attendees.

The unique activation of traditional exhibitor offerings in the USSA Pavilion with world-wide partners, held in tandem with Sky Lounge events and networking opportunities, positioned the United States and destination partners, as the “Gateway to the World” and secured USSA’s position as a global superyacht industry powerhouse.

Partnerships have always been the cornerstone of USSA’s development and success. Individually strong….together a powerful force, is the key focus of every association creation, by providing mutually beneficial experiences for all participants from attendees to the largest sponsors.

Partners and sponsors were heavily spotlighted throughout the Show to promote their companies to key markets as well as to increase market share. The success of the campaigns was overwhelming—as impressions, clickthru rates, web site visits and followers, were exponentially expanded –providing even greater ROI for exhibitors, sponsors and partners. The USSA Sky Lounge overlooked Fort Lauderdale beach and provided a birds-eye view of the Show. Member partners: Bradford Marine, IGY Marinas, MedAire, Robert Allen Law, Savannah Yacht Center and SEA.AI, were prominently featured throughout the Show and enjoyed premier exclusive lounge areas with bespoke furniture on loan from the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA). High-end meetings, client deals and many deals were signed, while enjoying the comfort of this oasis away from the show.

New face-to-face connections and business deals were signed at the USSA’s Sky Lounge in the center of the Show. Daily sponsored Breakfasts by RPM Diesel, United Island & Yacht, SF Marinas and Aere Marine Group started the days on the right foot. Happy Hours, hosted by Cayman Islands Registry, Satcom Direct, Oasis Marinas, Everglades Diesel, Marine Group Boat Works, Karen Lynn Interior Design and YachtSalesInternational.com created optimal and successful networking scenarios.

Daily sponsored breakfasts provided members with an opportunity to grab a delicious bite and coffee on their way into the Show.

Captains, yacht managers and other industry leaders were provided an update and Q&A on the current international yachting regulations by Peter Southgate of the Cayman Islands Registry, Pete Chesla of IRI The Marshall Island Registry and Fabien Raffray & Dylan Vloebergh-Lair from the French International Register.

A Global Destination Roundtable luncheon, was a Show highlight on Thursday, designed to showcase and share destination’s best practices, successes and challenges. It was presented by ProColombia, Superyacht Northwest, Superyacht New Zealand and sponsored additionally by Superyacht Australia, Gold Coast City Marina, Pacific Yacht Management/Salmon Bay Marine Center; Costa Rica Marina Association, Safe Harbor Marinas, IGY Marinas, Romora Bay Resort & Marina, AYSS, Cuba Luxury Experience, The Baker House and Marina Coast Peru this event offered a perspective on all corners of the world. Representatives from many countries, including the Bahamas, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, US and British Virgin Islands, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Australia, Tahiti, Antarctica, as well as the U.S. west coast from Alaska to California, all had an opportunity to collaborate, build relationships and new visions for the

The Inspire Initiative – FLIBS Edition re-energized those in attendance and provided networking with others in an interactive & fun environment. Michelle Alex, Founder of Engage, offered her unique energy and taught what it takes to become your own HERO filled with: Hope, self-Efficacy, Resilience, and Optimism. Targeted towards the women in our industry everyone in attendance walked away with a strength and ability to take on any challenge.

Channeling the spirit of Gertrude Denison, mother of the yacht interior industry, provided the focus of the Design at Sea panel that discussed the latest trends in Interior Design, Build & Technologies and was presented by DCOTA. It was moderated by Anel de Castro, Design Center of the America’s (DCOTA). Panelists included Aran Swart, RC Interior Design; Karen Lynn Poulos, Karen Lynn Interior Design; Rebecca Smith, Chief Stewardess and Kimberly Pucci, Kimberly Pucci Designs.

The final Show presentation was a late addition to the schedule, but provided cutting edge ideas that are propelling the industry into the future. Experts in the electric boating revolution including nextgeneration electric and hybrid marine propulsion technologies and port infrastructure solutions shared straight talk about the viability of solar panels as a primary power source in addition to what’s on the horizon for mitigating the risks of lithium-ion battery fires. The event was moderated by Cecile Guaert, Boat International Media and featured panelists Cyril Silberman, Atlantic Marine Electric; Jenny Keisu, CEO of X-Shore; Daylin Frantin, Co-Founder & CFO of Flux Marine; Udo Willersinn, Yacht Sales International, J. David Weiss, Yacht Designer, repping Voltari Electric Yachts and Eddy Denison, CPYB.

The USSA Annual Meeting presented by Engineered Yacht Solutions and MarineMax heralded a record number of attendees with a sold-out crowd of 450 as the association celebrated 16 years of supporting the superyacht industry with highlights of the latest industry trends, industry data and global updates as well as featuring a key-note address from W. Brett McGill, President & CEO of MarineMax. Mr. McGill provided an update on the quality brands and the value of customer service. He also discussed the company’s recent acquisitions, as well as the current trends being witnessed in the industry.

The highlight of the Annual Meeting, is the presentation of awards recognizing leaders for their excellence and industry impact: Golden Compass Award: Paul Derecktor, Derecktor Shipyard; Beacon Award: Michael Moore, Moore & Company; Chair’s Award: Toni HemmingBarber, BlueWater Books & Charts; Young Industry Leader: Sarrah Hearne, Bradford Marine and the inaugural winner of the newly created Gertrude Denision “Woman of the Year in Yachting” Award: Rose Damen of Damen Yachts. These winners exemplify the true essence of the award they received and recognized their tremendous impact on the superyacht industry.

The USSA expanded its Pavilion within the show, located in Bahia Mar Yachting Center, Navy Zone, that featured global exhibitor partners that came together to provide a unique superyacht location to showcase the United States as the Gateway to the World and provide a destination for access to experts in refit, yacht charter engineering, training and more.
