PAULI MURRAY: IMP, CRUSADER, DUDE, PRIEST

NORTH CAROLINA MUSEUM OF HISTORY Through November 27 ncmuseumofhistory.org

Pauli Murray: Imp, Crusader, Dude, Priest chronicles the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray as a significant twentieth-century human rights activist, educator, lawyer, poet, and Episcopal priest. Murray was a key player in the fight for African American, women’s, and LGBTQIA+ rights. At the same time, Murray was negotiating their own racial identity, struggling to earn a good living, and seeking more understanding of their sexuality and gender. Through photographs, quotes, audio, and text, this exhibition invites a deeper understanding of twentieth-century American life. Visitors can explore a variety of life-sized photographs and an annotated timeline to learn more about the life of Pauli Murray.
