Economics If you are interested in how and why people make the choices they make, then Economics is your degree. As a combination of psychology, finance, business, and government, a degree in economics is incredibly useful and can lead to many interesting career choices.

Economics is a social science and graduates with an “econ” degree are in high demand. It provides you with a useful skillset and background for careers in government policy, business and finance. Knowledge you will gain includes microeconomics, macroeconomics, advanced problem solving, quantitative reasoning, data analysis and modeling, quantitative analysis and communication, decision-making and research. You will also have additional opportunities to learn through internships—directly from professionals in businesses firms, government, and non-profit organizations.

An added benefit, seniors who feel inspired to keep studying to obtain an MBA or M.S. degree may take graduate-level courses during their last two semesters for dual undergraduate and graduate credit. That means students can take nine graduate-level credit hours during senior year, and can complete their MBA or M.S. one year after graduating if they attend full time. Economics

The economics major prepares students for a wide variety of careers in service firms, manufacturing firms, banking, insurance, market research, data analysis, real estate, consulting, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. Graduates can earn a median income surpassing $100,000. Perhaps most importantly, an economics degree is a strong signal to potential employers that you have gained valuable analytical, reasoning, and critical thinking skills. You can do anything you set your mind to doing through the successful completion of this degree! Graduates of USF’s Economics program are prepared equally for business and graduate school. Think of your degree as an entry ticket to careers in the following fields:

Faculty members and administrators in USF’s College of Business & Health Administration are extremely involved in the regional business community. That means they’ve got connections, and they’re constantly being exposed to companies offering impressive internship opportunities. So many, in fact, that there are typically more opportunities than students to fill them! Most internships are paid experiences (though some are unpaid) and involve 10-25 hours of work per week for academic credit. You’ll also get the opportunity to interact with working entrepreneurs through the USF Business Incubator, where business startups collaborate and build their businesses in a co-working environment.
