The mission of the Cecily and John Leach College of Nursing, accredited by the Comission on Collegiate Nursing Education, is educating individuals to be accountable nursing professionals who integrate the Franciscan values of respect, integrity, compassion and service into their care of patients.

The advanced practice nurse with a Nursing (MSN) degree assumes a leadership role and incorporates education and research into a practice that is reflective of the dynamic needs of a diverse population. Graduates are instrumental in ensuring health promotion, health maintenance and health restoration for society. Through scientific inquiry and collaborative relationships the advanced practice nurse continually augments and refines the science of nursing.

FEATURES

USF strives to provide a quality educational program that fits into the busy lives of working nurses. Students can complete their MSN degree at their own pace while continuing to work. Classes are offered online three semesters each year (fall, spring, summer). Students may enter during the fall or spring semesters for the FNP, PMHNP and Education programs and also in the summer for the Administration program.

BENEFITS

The MSN program not only addresses professional knowledge but also technical competencies within the framework of ethics and service. Students learn from professors and one another as they network and share knowledge in a wide range of nursing, healthcare, and business topics. Students in the MSN program are individuals who share the goal of professional growth and development, bringing to the classroom their personal perspectives and backgrounds. Class size averages between 15 and 20, providing the opportunity for an exciting interactive learning environment.

OUTCOMES

Graduates of this program will be able to:

• Incorporate concepts of advanced nursing roles into health care practices.

• Demonstrate competence in advanced nursing roles within a variety of settings and with diverse populations.

• Demonstrate leadership and management strategies in advanced nursing roles.

• Analyze and synthesize individual and societal issues that influence health care.

• Contribute to the development and refinement of nursing science.

• Engage in collaborative relationships with members of interdisciplinary teams.

• Engage in post-graduate academic and professional development activities.

• Communicate effectively, conveying information correctly and accurately.

FINANCING YOUR EDUCATION

Students are eligible for financial aid in the form of student loans, payment plans and tuition reimbursement deferment. All students should submit the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. USF’s code is 001664.
