Welcome

Thank you for making the journey to be here today. Choosing a university is a very important decision. It needs to ‘feel’ right. Trust your instincts and you will make the choice that is right for you.

On our side, we are passionate about the power of education and the opportunities it brings. Our research is changing the world to create a sustainable, healthy and socially just future. More than 99% of our research has been judged to be of international quality and 89% is internationally excellent*. Exeter puts you, the student, at the centre of its effort to solve the great challenges of our time. We will equip you with the knowledge, skills and connections to make this contribution. Join us and you will be part of a globally aware community with the warmth and friendliness of the South West at its heart.

Today is all about finding out whether the University of Exeter is right for you. Learn about our programmes, explore our grounds, talk to our staff and wonderful Exeter Student Ambassadors, and reflect on it all afterwards. Please don’t be afraid to ask questions. The Admissions process can seem daunting, but we are here to help. We promise to be open and transparent about how we will assess your application and about competition for places.

Remember that challenging goals shape us – whether they work out or not. The experience of trying really hard and working for something you really want is always valuable. We are looking for highly motivated and intellectually curious students who are engaged with the wider world. We will be supportive and flexible in helping you demonstrate this.

Don’t forget to use our University of Exeter geofilter – only available on campus.

Excellence in Education

Our Open Day is designed to help you find out more about the University of Exeter and decide if we are the right university for you. The day is packed with opportunities for you to see our facilities, meet our staff and students, and experience the atmosphere of the University for yourself.

We have two campuses in Exeter: Streatham and St Luke’s. Please check which campus your activities will take place on.

The symbol SL indicates activities on St Luke’s Campus. There are general information marquees at both campuses where staff will be delighted to deal with any enquiries you may have (see pages 19 and 20 for locations). Our student marshals, wearing yellow tshirts, will be across the campuses and will help you in any way they can, from giving directions to answering questions about what the University is really like.

This brochure outlines all the activities and presentations on offer, so you can select and prioritise the ones you want to attend. The table on the back cover can help you to plan your day. The maps on pages 18-20 show the main buildings on the campuses to help you find your way around. Our guided tours give you the chance to ask questions as you explore (see page 7).

Eating out in Exeter

A number of local restaurants are offering a discount to Open Day visitors. To find out more go to exeter.ac.uk/undergraduate/visiting/opendays/restaurants

If you can find the time during your visit to us today we really recommend exploring the city of Exeter itself. Set in the heart of the beautiful Devon countryside and only a short walk from either of our campuses, Exeter is consistently rated as one of the best places to live, work and study in the UK.

The city centre boasts excellent places to eat, an impressive, modern shopping centre, award-winning museum, and, of course, the historic cathedral and ancient Roman city wall.

Stroll a few minutes further and you will find the vibrant quayside and beautiful river and canal, and, beyond the city itself, Devon’s rolling countryside, expansive National Parks and miles of beautiful beaches. exeter.ac.uk/thesouthwest/exeter
