Housing and Residence Life

KEY TO CAMPUS LIFE All UCF Housing communities have Resident Assistants (RAs) on-site. Your RA will help you make a smooth transition to UCF and make the most of your experience as a Knight. From campus resources to exciting events, RAs are specially trained to guide you through every facet of college life. Your RA takes the time to get to know you and helps you create connections within your community.

GROW AND EXPLORE

Designed to help you become a productive global citizen, our Housing and Residence Life staff creates a year-round learning plan that focuses on four key concepts: community engagement, self-awareness, cultural competence and global impact. You’ll learn something new by attending community meetings, talking with your RA and taking part in campus events. You’ll also have online videos and newsletters to help you stay connected with neighbors.

RESIDENT ASSISTANT SPOTLIGHT Favorite thing about living on campus:

There are always so many events taking place at UCF. And by living on campus, I stumble upon exciting activities all the time. It makes me much more inclined to get involved and embrace my school spirit. Favorite RA memory:

The conversations I had with my residents. One year, we all had a Thanksgiving dinner together with residents who remained on campus during Thanksgiving weekend. So many residents came and we got to know each other better. Advice to first year students:

Get involved by adopting a “Rule of Three.” Join one organization that will benefit your future career path, one fun club to keep you de-stressed, and search for a side job that’ll give you some extra spending money. Best takeaway:

Be open to meeting new people! I met all of my best friends by living on campus.

Hometown

Miami Lakes, Florida

“Take some time to get to know your Resident Assistant. We are here to serve you and we can do that better if we know what you expect out of your college experience. Also, don’t be afraid to try new activities and expand your horizons. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” —Marissa Sowinski, Psychology major

Cool off in the 186,000-gallon leisure pool, or take a few laps in the lap pool.

Meet up with friends, grab a snack and take a break between classes.

Feel the burn with a wide array of exercise equipment in the Recreation and Wellness Center.

Cheer on the Knights at athletics venues across campus, including Spectrum Stadium.

Take a hike, plant a garden and explore nature in the 82-acre Arboretum.

Living Learning Communities

DON’T JUST LIVE WHERE YOU LEARN. LEARN WHERE YOU LIVE. A Living Learning Community is a group of students placed together on a floor or within a building based on a common major, interest or program affiliation. This allows you to live and learn with a smaller group of students who share similar goals and experiences.

FUTURE EDUCATORS Be a part of a community that works together to prepare for admission to the College of Education and Human Performance, as well as a future in the education profession.

NURSING @ NIKE Join this active community of firstyear, nursing-pending students who share your passion for caring for others. The community connects you with exclusive programs like an SLS Nursing course, a Nursing Colloquium course, service-learning opportunities, team building and social activities.

EXCEL/COMPASS Succeeding in the science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) fields is

easier when you’ve got the right support. This community offers STEM majors exclusive programming and resources, including study hours and chats with faculty.

HONORS You’re already dedicated to academic excellence, and you can achieve even more by living and collaborating with other students driven to excel. Develop your leadership and interpersonal skills through research opportunities and service projects.

LEAD SCHOLARS LEAD Scholars are connected in an integrated academic and social environment that focuses on specialized leadership programs and services. Residents have the opportunity to take classes together and connect with their LEAD Scholar neighbors through specialized programs and events.

L.E.A.R.N.™ – RESEARCH COMMUNITY Ready to be a part of a community focused on your academic success? L.E.A.R.N. students take classes together and get to collaborate in a hands-on research environment in their first year. Residents also benefit from a close community of friends,

mentors, specialized programming and integration into their major.

HEALTHY KNIGHTS Live in a healthy and substance-free environment that promotes wellness. You’ll attend health and wellness programs within your community and on campus with other first-year students who are committed to healthy living.

OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS Build friendships in this community created exclusively for out-ofstate students. We provide special activities, events, educational sessions, resources and services. Mentors and advisors provide additional support designed to help you make a smooth transition into your first year as a Knight.

21ST CENTURY SCHOLARS Joining this community provides you with additional support in your first year as a college student. A peer mentor from Multicultural Academic & Support Services (MASS) works with you to provide information and resources for financial aid, campus involvement, advising, counseling and more.

QUESTIONS FREQUENTLY ASKED

Q. A RE FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS GUARANTEED HOUSING AT UCF? A. There are more students who request housing than can be accommodated, so it is very important to apply for housing as soon as you are offered admission. If the type of housing you request is full, we will give you the opportunity to switch to another type of UCF Housing based on availability. First-year housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Q. W HAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ACADEMIC-YEAR (FALL/SPRING) AGREEMENT AND A YEAR-ROUND (FALL/SPRING/SUMMER) AGREEMENT? A. This is one of the first decisions you will make. Students who choose an academic-year agreement will live in their assigned room for fall 2018 and spring 2019, leaving during the winter break. Residents of the Rosen College Apartments will also have this type of agreement but are not required to leave during the winter break. Students who choose The Towers or NorthView will sign a year-round agreement for fall 2018, spring 2019 and summer 2019 — never having to leave during their agreement. Q. W HERE CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION ON HOUSING RATES AND OPTIONS? A. Up-to-date housing information is available at www.housing.ucf.edu. Rates are subject to change.

Q. C AN I BRING MY CAR TO CAMPUS? A. It’s not necessary to have a car at UCF, but parking is available for students living on campus. A shuttle system is available and serves the on- and off-campus apartment complexes. Parking information is available at parking.ucf.edu. Q. A RE HOUSING TOURS AVAILABLE? A. Yes. Daily housing tours of multiple communities are provided Monday through Friday, except on holidays. Details on in-person tours and video tours can be found at www.housing.ucf.edu/tours. You may also submit a request online for tours in Spanish. Q: HOW DOES DINING ON CAMPUS WORK? A: Go to ucf.campusdish.com to choose from several optional dining memberships, each with access to UCF’s two dining halls — ’63 South in Ferrell Commons and Knightro’s by the CFE Arena. On-campus eateries are abundant, too, and include Chick-fil-A, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Java City, Pollo Tropical and more. You can also do your own cooking. Appliances permitted vary by room type. You can find those details at www.housing.ucf.edu/faq under ”what to expect.”
