Your education isn’t just about what you learn in the classroom — it’s also about bridging the experiences you have outside of it. As a ULethbridge student you have an extraordinary opportunity to create an exceptional academic experience. Combined with a foundation in liberal education and armed with hands-on work experience through co-op, you will graduate with a head start on the path to your future.
Co-operative education combines real-world work experience with academic studies and has garnered international recognition as the preferred way to complete a degree. The program creates partnerships between students, the University and the employer.
The co-op team helps students in all majors find meaningful employment opportunities. That means you can gain work experience directly related to your studies and make valuable contacts in the workforce while earning a competitive salary.
Participate in co-op and you will:
• experience real-world application of your discipline,
• be introduced to employment possibilities,
• develop valuable research skills for future work experience or graduate school,
• learn to be proactive in your job search skills and make informed career choices,
• be provided with challenging and relevant paid work experience, and
• build valuable contacts with employers.
A meaningful co-op placement is one that complements your education and broadens your skills while providing you with access to employers whose primary objective is to deliver a planned, supervised work experience that will enhance your academic learning.
Completion of the program allows you to receive a Co-operative Education designation on your degree and, most importantly, a kick-start to your career the minute you graduate.
Information for Post-diploma & Transfer Students
• You may join co-op as soon as you have applied for and been accepted to the University of Lethbridge — apply early enough to get access to the secure job board; you can even head out on your first co-op work term the semester before ever setting foot on campus
• Your transfer courses place you in high demand by employers who recognize the skills attained through higher learning and their direct impact on positive contributions in the workplace
• Students may transfer one approved co-op work term from their transfer institution
• You may complete one to six co-op work terms and these are recorded on your ULethbridge transcript and resume
• Co-op students can complete work terms in spring, summer or fall for 4, 8, 12 or 16-months — with so many combinations available, you choose what works for you
