General Information • Most Sport & Recreation Services non-credit programs are open to University students, faculty, staff and the community.

Registration

• All applications are received on a “First Come, First Serve” basis. Only those registrations received with immediate payment are considered officially registered. • Register EARLY as most Sport & Recreation Services programs fill to capacity prior to the registration deadline of 5 working days before the activity/program starts. • Any program cancelled due to insufficient enrolment or instructor unavailability will be refunded, in full, to you. • Sport & Recreation Services reserves the right to cancel any activity/program for any reason deemed necessary by the Sport & Recreation Services Programs Manager. • GST is included in program fees unless otherwise noted. • Sport & Recreation Services will not be held liable for any injury or death resulting from the use of Sport & Recreation Services equipment or participating in any activity/program. It is understood that the risk of personal injury or death is inherent to some degree in all activities, and while using equipment. Please ensure that you fully understand what these risks are and that you are prepared to accept this element of risk before registering for our activities / programs. Sport & Recreation Services will in no way be responsible for: medical or dental expenses; ambulance expenses; damage, theft or loss of personal equipment, eye glasses or contact lenses incurred while participating in any activity/program. • All program locations are in the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport & Wellness unless otherwise noted. • The personal information collected is subject to Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and is collected under the authority of s.32 of that Act. It is collected for the purpose of program registration and will also be used for future Sport & Recreation Services mailouts. If you have questions contact

Cancellations • A $20 cancellation/$10 transfer fees is charged for each activity/program cancellation or transfer. • All cancellations must be received in writing, by Sport & Recreation Services, a minimum of 5 working days prior to the commencement of the activity/program. • Refunds will not be considered after the commencement of the activity/program.

Birthday Parties & Group Bookings • Birthday Parties can be booked at the Pool on Fridays or Saturdays at specific times for a one hour period. • A food and present opening area is also available, for up to one hour, after your Climbing or Pool time. • Group packages are also available throughout the year, including staff Christmas party packages in December. • Please call 403-329-2658 for further information regarding these bookings. • Climbing Wall Birthday Parties can be booked on Fridays or Saturdays at specific times at a cost of $100 for a one hour period. A food & present opening area is available for up to one hour after your climbing time also. We also offer 2 hour group packages available Tuesday evenings and during limited times throughout the year.

The following guidelines shall be followed in regards to child and youth access: • Children under the age of 3 are admitted at no charge. • Children aged 3-8 yrs old must be supervised to use the Pool or CW. • Children aged 9-13 yrs old do not have to be supervised to use the Pool or CW (must meet CW Requirements).

• Children aged 3-13 yrs old must be supervised to use the Triple Gym and Track. • Youth aged 14 & 15 yrs old may use entire facility unsupervised (Must meet FC requirements). • Youth aged 16-17 yrs old; adult supervision is not required.

NOTE: Supervision is the responsibility of the adult user who has brought a child. This is defined as participating in or directly supervising any given activity with the child. 1


Sports for Youth Women’s Pronghorn Academy/Spring League Basketball The Horns Women’s basketball team is offering a basketball-specific experience; 1 hour of instruction and 1.5 hours of game time. S.A.L.T.S. - Soccer Learn to play soccer through the acquisition of soccer specific skills, lead up games, and mini soccer games. Each session will include skill-related instruction, lead-up games and a mini soccer game. The goal of the program is to provide an environment for learning individual ball handling skills and small group tactics. Soccer can be fun for every child when they have the opportunity to touch the ball and develop skills. Each participant MUST BRING: 1 soccer ball, 1 pair of shin pads, soccer or running shoes, shorts, sweatpants, jacket or sweatshirt, water bottle; please ensure that all personal items are marked accordingly.

Golf - Youth The University of Lethbridge, in conjunction with the professional staff at the Paradise Canyon Golf Resort, is pleased to offer introductory golf lessons. The program will include instruction on all facets of the game and with an emphasis on fun.

Multi Activity Camp

These camps offer elementary aged children the opportunity to learn and broaden their horizons acquiring fundamental skills in a variety of activities. Your child has an opportunity to participate in different activity components, such as art, dance, cooperative games and many physical activities (floor hockey, basketball, and soccer). All of our instructors encourage and promote social interaction skills, emphasizing cooperation and individual improvement rather than competition. Participants are grouped relative to their age and physical ability levels. This ensures all youth are learning and challenged in an appropriate way.

This session is geared to junior high youth who are looking for training and experience as potential leaders in the community. The dynamic instructional curriculum includes emergency first aid certification, how to effectively handle behaviour problems, and planning and coordinating activities. Participants must also complete a week long practicum as a “leader in training� with our summer multi activity camps. A certificate and reference letter is provided once all requirements are fulfilled.

Basketball Camp Elementary This camp is for 6-10 year olds. It provides an introduction to basketball with the emphasis on fun and learning the game.

Jr. Boys And Girls These camps, for children ages 11-13, combine individual skills with team play while maintaining an atmosphere making basketball challenging, yet enjoyable for all.

Sr. Boys And Girls Each player is expected to have some knowledge of the game, as the level of instruction and competition is more advanced. The University of Lethbridge Pronghorn basketball coaches bring a wealth of talent and knowledge to the camps and select their top players to facilitate and lead instruction. These camps are divided into boys and girls camps.

Mini

Fundamental soccer skills are taught through a games and discoverybased approach. Players participate in activities to develop both teamwork and essential skills in a manner that emphasizes enjoyment of the sport. For ages 6-9 years.

Basic (Girls) This camp for girls places greater emphasis on soccer fundamentals and the skill development of each player. Specialized training in individual ball skills and movement are the focus of this camp. Participants are divided into groups of similar ability levels so that all may learn from the experience. For ages 8-11 years.

Goalie This specialized camp teaches fundamentals and advanced techniques. For ages 10 years and up.


Sports for Youth High Performance This camp is designed for boys and girls who are striving to play “rep” soccer (LFC, Tier 3). The camp will allow the participants to learn advanced techniques and tactics in various game situations. Participants will be divided into groups of similar ability levels so that they can fully enjoy the camp experience. For ages 9-15 years.

Hockey Camp

The focus of the instructional hockey camp is to improve the players skating, passing, and shooting skills. Players will be given the opportunity to apply these skills in game type activities daily with a final game on the last day of camp. Off-ice instruction and film sessions are part of the daily routine as well as a multi-sport session.

Checking Confidence This program is intended to provide young players 11-12 years of age with special instruction on the physical and mental skills required for effective checking. Areas covered include angling, pinning techniques, stick position and checking, body positioning procedures and techniques in taking a check. Open ice checking and back checking are also covered.

Swimming Camp This camp is for those competitve atheletes wanting to develop their swimming techniques, including race starts, relays, and other competitve skills. Participants should be prepared for some outdoor fun and training as well.

Sports for Youth Lunch Program We are pleased to feature the return of the Summer Camp Lunch Program to the University of Lethbridge. Food Services has developed this program with you in mind to enhance the Summer Camp program. Food Services will supply a combination of hot and cold lunches daily to your child. This program is included into the fee structure for all of our full day camps to save you time and to add convenience. If there are any questions or concerns regarding allergies, please contact Food Services at 329-2491. *$15 discount off registration price if you opt out of lunch program. Campers MUST bring own lunch if this option is selected.

Gymnastics Tiny Tumbleweeds (2-3 yrs; Parent & Tot Class) Join us with your preschooler for a fun and creative program designed to develop your little one’s skills in climbing, jumping, swinging, balance and locomotion. Our safe and nurturing environment encourages interactions with young participants and their parents through physical and social development. Activities will include use of various gym equipment; introduction of skills using circuits and continuous movement activities.

Preschool (4-5 yrs; Unparented Class) Continuing with the basic skills developed at the Tiny Tumbleweeds level, your child will experience various activities to further develop their skill level. They will be surrounded with encouragement and support in a secure environment using circuits, games, group activities and gymnastic equipment to challenge each youngster.

Beginner / Intermediate (6-10 yrs) This beginner level introduces children to fundamental gymnastics activities. It provides age appropriate activities to develop strength and skills with a stress on fun, fitness and fundamentals; and, aims to combine the concepts of height, flight, rotations, balance and locomotion with various activities to further develop skills. This level is designed for children with little, or no, background in gymnastics and is intended to be introductory.

Sports for Youth Gymnastics Summer Camps One week gymnastics activity camps for children 5-10 years of age. This camp will consist of gymnastics and related activities. Other activities will include outdoor games, movies, crafts and possibly swimming on the last day. We aim to provide age appropriate activities to develop strength and skills with a stress on fun, fitness and fundamentals; and combine the concepts of height, flight, rotations, balance and locomotion with various activities in our gym. Lunch menu will be provided with this camp.

Trampoline & Tumbling (8 yrs & up) Participants enrolled in this class will enjoy bouncing and tumbling on our tumbling track, trampoline, double mini-tramp and the mini-tramp. This class is for those wishing to explore a little height and flight with some really cool tricks.

Climbing Programs Adventure Youth

Youth Adventure Camp

Adventure youth climbing program will teach youth the basics of climbing, belaying and bouldering. We practice these skills indoors and then at the end of the session we may take the group outdoors and climb on the real thing. This course aims to teach our climbers as much as they can learn from our sport. For boys & girls 12 -17 years of age.

Youth caving camp for youth ages 13 -17 years of age. Campers will enjoy an exciting week in the Crowsnest Pass doing various outdoor activities. We will hike and bike through adventurous trails and historic sites, hike up the famous Turtle Mountain, adventure to gorgeous Window Mountain Lake & climb on the rock face of some local favourite crags. Our home base will be in Blairmore and we venture from there each day. During these activities campers will learn how to respect the environment, travel safely in groups and many outdoor skills essential for the enjoyment of the great outdoors.

Climbing Camp - Adult

Adult caving camp for all those 18 years of age and up. This exciting camp introduces our campers to the basics of caving & staying overnight in the great outdoors. Come out and climb with us. Adult climbing camp is for all those 18 years of age and up. This camp involves a training session at the Ascent Climbing Centre and then we venture to the outdoors. We will be going top rope climbing at the Stone Hills climbing area in Montana. This camp is for beginner to intermediate climbers with no (or minimal) outside climbing experience. The camp consists of 4 hours at the climbing wall practicing the basic skills, equipment needs and packing for low impact adventuring. We then spend the rest of the week in beautiful Montana with a climbing view of Lake Kookanusa. For an additional $25/week, drop-off as early as 8AM and pick-up as late as 5PM is available. DISCOUNT: If booking more than three camps, a $5 discount per camp is applicable.

Newly built and opened in September 2009, this facility is a multi-use facility for University training and competitions as well as High School and community sports activities. Located on University Drive, West Lethbridge – South of Campus
