UPCOMING READ-A-THON The Black Rock Elementary PTO is very excited to announce plans for our 3rd annual Read-a-thon! The Read-a-thon will run from Monday, September 12 through Friday, September 23, with pledges due by Friday, October 7th. The Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills. With the power of being able to read, nothing is beyond your grasp. Reading can magically take you to faraway places, you can climb mountains, tame lions, sail a boat around the world, travel through time, or even learn to become a wizard! The main focus of the Read-a-thon is to raise funds for the Black Rock Elementary PTO. The PTO supports the school financially in numerous ways: technology, special in-school events, money for teachers to purchase much needed supplies, and more. For the 2011Read A Thon, we have set a goal of $12,000 raised! This goal can be achieved by securing sponsors who can choose to pledge per minute of reading time, or they can pledge a set amount for the Read-a-thon. Participants may read on their own or with family or friends. Listening to someone else read, in any language, or reading to someone else also counts. Would you like to support our kids? We understand that, we all hold high expectations for the quality of education our kids receive during the school day. By encouraging our children to participate in the Read-a-thon, we are expanding upon this learning and taking it into our home, increasing the school’s effectiveness. The Read-a-thon will help our children develop a lasting love of reading, and a lifetime of learning.
We would like to thank our community for supporting our school. Black Rock Elementary is a proud member of the St Vrain School System and joins the other Erie elementary schools; Red Hawk Elementary and Aspen Ridge Charter School. We are so lucky to have such good options for our kids’ education and appreciate the community support that we continue to receive. Your support helps us provide the outstanding education and unique opportunities that the Black Rock Students have the privilege to receive.
