Read a bit about Rob and his inspiration behind Blake’s Taphouse. ELIFE: Tell us a bit about yourself, where are you from originally? What brought you to Erie? Rob: Originally from California and came out to Colorado in 1990 to attend CSU and ultimately graduated from veterinary school in 2001. I am an avid cyclist and would ride through Erie often. I came across a home in Vista Ridge and moved here in 2004.

ELIFE: What inspired you to embark on Blake’s Taphouse? Rob: Named after my 7 year old son Blake, I have always wanted to open a family friendly, upscale craft beer location that features quality craft beer and fresh non fried foods. Somewhere that feels like your living room and not a sports bar with TVs everywhere. ELIFE: What is the philosophy/goals for Blakes Taphouse? Rob: My goal is to offer the ultimate craft beer bar family experience. Blake’s Taphouse is an upscale Beer emporium that offers at least 40 different craft beers on tap, wide varieties of imports, local craft beers and a selection of wine. Next to the beers and wines, Blake’s Taphouse will complement the drinks with a fresh food menu without the use of fryers. My goal is to also bring people together that can create memories and good times with good people and great beer. ELIFE: How do you plan on giving back to the community? Rob: We are already platinum sponsors of Black Rock Elementary and will host fundraiser events for local schools. We will collaborate to support our local law enforcement as well as have charity events to raise money for local charities. We will have Blake’s cycling group and running groups to promote health and fitness. ELIFE: What advice would you offer to folks wanting to open their own restaurant? Rob: Research the industry, understand the economics, be diligent in your vision and concept, have fun.

Rob: I met Curtis Williams in 2015 when we both were dealing with housing issues and having to uplift our families for faulty home construction defects. Curtis comes in with a long professional career in the food industry, distribution and culinary background. The holiday season is upon us and its that time of year when many people will be giving animals as gifts. Receiving a pet as a gift can either be a dream come true or an eventual nightmare. There are common scenarios that contribute to the success or failure of giving pets as gifts for the holidays. A few tips to consider: If you’re getting a new pet for your family for the holidays, make sure that everyone is in agreement about who will be responsible to take care of the animal. Most of the responsibilities will fall on the adults in the home. Just because you want to surprise your kids with a pet, does not mean they are ready for the responsibility to care for the animal. If the children cannot fulfill their daily animal care responsibilities, the adults need to step in and take over. If the adults are on board with that plan, then go ahead and get the pet for their kids. Don’t expect children to follow through on their commitments or make the animal a priority in their life. As long as the child is still a minor, the adults need to be actively involved in the animal’s welfare. There are many animals in local shelters and rescues that are perfectly healthy, ideal companions and are waiting for the right home. Some of my fondest memories include getting new pets and sharing wonderful moments with them. I hope these tips help you in creating beautiful holiday memories and long-lasting loving relationships!
