“You may not have had a biblical prophet foretell your purpose on this earth but as God’s child, you surely have a mission.” Although I had asked God for a baptism of love, I immediately turned away from the man. With my back facing the leper, God asked me a simple question, “Why did you come to India?” I offered God various reasons. He asked me again. I offered Him more reasons. When He asked a third time, I had run out of reasons. Then God spoke these words into my heart, “If you will turn around and look at that man, I will show you why I came to India.”

leper colony in South India. At the colony, people embraced him, shared the Gospel to him, and eventually led him to Christ. With treatment, and by God’s grace, his leprosy was arrested and he became a man who lovingly handed out candies to the children in the colony. This man’s life was transformed by God’s love – and so was mine!

I turned around and, for the first time in my life, I saw the greatness and depth of God’s love for mankind. I walked over to the leper and held him in my arms. It was in that moment that God gave me a deep love for India; my prejudices were taken away and He replaced them with a desire to serve the people of that nation.

Christ is the heartbeat that the world desperately seeks to hear. As we develop a passion and compassion for the lost, I pray that God will soften our hearts and transplant His love into our being. I truly believe that developing a heart for the lost comes from first developing a heart for God. My prayer is that we will be able to increase our dose of God’s love so that not one man, woman, or child will be left behind or left unloved.
