Forstnig Family

The Trattlerhof’s roots date back all the way to 1642. Since 1884, the Trattlerhof has been in the possession of the Forstnig family, whose 5th generation is now running the 4-star hotel. Over the past 130 years, the Forstnig family has transformed the ‚Trattlerkeusche‘, a simple inn, into a sophisticated 4-star hotel. Tradition is upheld as is a sustainable, future-oriented outlook in the historic Trattlerhof . The Trattlerhof has often had the spotlight of history cast upon it such as when Josef Paul Zopf stopped by in 1737. Birgit and Jakob Forstnig Jr. are the 5th generation of hotel hosts, who run the hotel with friendly hospitality and Alpine charm. Diverse, exciting experiences for all generations make the Trattlerhof an unforgettable vacation destination in summer and winter.

Sustainability – an important objective Those who live from and with nature - such as the Forstnig family - can only do so with a high degree of sustainable future thinking. The hotelier family has received several awards for their exemplary dedication to climate protection and sustainability. They have taken many measures to reduce the ecological footprint. The hotel’s own hydropower station was built over 20 years ago and produces more electricity than is used in the hotel. Compared to other standard hotels, the Trattlerhof saves around 250,000 kg of CO2 . The conservation of resources has a long tradition here with the aim of preserving the intact environment in all its glory as the most important commodity. There has been a long tradition of resource conservation at the hotel, aiming to preserve the glorious natural surroundings. This has been taken a step further with the Trattlerhof becoming the first Austrian hotel to issue CO2 certificates to its guests. Visit the Trattlerhof and return home with a good environmental conscience.

Our own CO2 certificates since 2015 Go on vacation and receive a CO2 certificate from your hosts - the Trattlerhof is Austria’s first hotel to be able to do this. The reason: the outstanding sustainable operations throughout the hotel.

S

ustainability is a matter of course & a matter of obligation at the heart of what we do here at the Trattlerhof. . The amount of CO2 savings per year offsets the CO2 emissions of guests arriving by car or plane each year thus allowing you to enjoy a ‚climate neutral‘ stay. Hotel guests are also given a CO2 certificate. During your vacation, there are also many ecological offers you can take ad-

vantage of – from e-bikes to the electric Mercedes, which will take you to a swimming excursion on the lake with complete CO2 neutrality. Tip: Calculate your ‚CO2 savings‘ for your stay at the Trattlerhof including arrival and departure with the CO2 calculator at www.trattlerhof.at

T

he 4th ‚Charity Wine & Golf Cup‘ was in a class of its own. For two days, gourmets and golf fans experienced a colourful variety of events at the Trattlerhof. It started on Friday with a gala evening. In addition to a wine tasting by Erich & Walter Polz (Southern Styria) & Weingut Wellanschitz (Burgenland), around 80 guests enjoyed a Gössl folk costume fashion show including Miss Carinthia Franziska Sumberaz. On Saturday, golfers showed off their skills with the 4th tournament at the Bad Kleinkirchheim Golf Club. The evening awards ce-

NEW: Trattlers Hof-Chalets Construction of a new chalet village is scheduled to start in Autumn 2016. The 14 chalets will be perfectly located right next to the Maibrunn ski run. They promise new vacation experiences with typical Trattlerhof quality.

T

he idea behind the Hof Chalets is to offer Trattlerhof guests another opportunity to enjoy a personal, individual vacation in their own chalet in addition to the 4-star hotel. The rustic chalets will be designed in the regional Nockalm style and equipped with all the comforts. They will offer you a vacation in the middle of nature. The spacious chalets (ca. 85 and 100 m2) are designed for guests who would like more individuality on their vacation, and this includes families with children as well as couples looking for a retreat. Hotel service is offered, and you can enjoy dining at the

nearby restaurant ‚Trattlers Einkehr‘. Guests of the Hof Chalets will be able to take advantage of many of the offers, such as riding, available at the hotel.

Our chalet guests will be delighted by the smell of freshly baked bread delivered to your door, the taste of smoked trout caught in the nearby fishing pond, the sounds of children playing in the village square and the chance to bathe in a wooden hot tub under the shining stars. We aim to create new memories for you at the Hof Chalets, providing you with a special holiday experience.

Horse Experience

Horse experiences & riding paradise at the Trattlerhof Horses – from sweet ponies and Icelandic horses to Warmbloods and sturdy Noriker horses – are inseparably connected to the Trattlerhof.

Whether riding lessons, pony rides, trail rides in the Nockberge mountains around Bad Kleinkirchheim, or simply visiting the Trattlerhof horses in the paddock, horse lovers will certainly get their money’s worth in summer and winter. The Trattlerhof ‚herd‘ consists of 8 Warmbloods, Icelandic horses, Noriker horses, and ponies. They each have a new stall right next to the riding stables and paddock.

Horse-drawn carriage rides

One main attraction – for families as well as couples in love – is our horse-drawn carriage ride. In summer, the beautiful landscape will leisurely pass you by, and guests

or the 40th time, the Trattlerhof hosted the ‚Impulse on the Mountain‘ dialogue series in October 2015.

‚Impulse on the Mountain‘ is the name of the traditional dialogue series at the Trattlerhof. Among other things, the issue of climate change was the focus last summer.

Once a month, prominent figures and experts address special themes from the areas of literature, science, medicine, art, culture, tradition, and spirituality. For example, beekeeper Herbert Garnitschnig addressed the subject of ‚Bees at the Intersection of Modern Agriculture‘. Scientist Gudrun Weisz (University of Applied Sciences in Vienna) presented her version of the ‚Big Bang and the Origin of Space and Time‘. Ski jump training legend Baldur Preiml spoke about the ‚Fascination of the Mountains‘. Farmer Karin Schabus (Biohof Seidl) told of the challenges of a

with ponies as your lovable companions. Once a week, ponies accompany guests on a torch-lit hike from the Trattlerhof to the Einkehr, where you can enjoy dinner. With the ‚Family Experience‘ package, you can groom the ponies or ride them on a lunge through a special course.

‚Woman Farmer in the Mountains‘ as well as ecological orientation and certified organic farms. ‚CO2 Balance and Carbon Footprint‘ was the theme of Roland Fehringer from Denkstatt GmbH in Vienna, and he addressed the challenge of climate change as well as the Trattlerhof and its sustainable system. He discussed the CO2 footprint of the Trattlerhof, which thanks to the hotel’s own hydropower plant and Bad Kleinkirchheim’s biomass heat production, is positive. The next ‚Impulse on the Mountain‘ will take place in January, February and March 2016 and starting in May will continue once a month throughout the summer. New hiking ideas in the Nockberge Mountains Whether surprise hikes offered by ‚Berggenießer‘ hosts or the six nock/art hiking trails – enjoyable hiking is a major attraction for Trattlerhof guests between May and October.

T

hroughout the entire summer, hiking is always on Trattlerhof programme, surprising guests and rewarding them with unforgettable experiences. For example at the start of one of the hikes we organised a welcoming with an accordion player and aperitifs served from horseback. In 2016, there will also be such hikes with a surprise factor.

nock/art hiking trails

Six special hiking routes were designated as nock/art hiking trails in 2015, because they make the Alpi-

They are also equipped with a variety of informative elements and offer artistic benches where you can rest in exceptionally beautiful spots. nock/art is an art & culture initiative that has existed for several years that aims to allow guests to get to know the Nockberge mountains from other perspectives.

Splendid mountain diversity Bad Kleinkirchheim is located in the middle of the Nockberge mountains. The mountain landscape with its many streams and mountain lakes as well as the largest spruce, larch, and pine forests in the Eastern Alps is unique throughout Europe. In 2012, the Nockberge mountains were designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The Nockberge hikes are an important matter for Trattlerhof hotelier Jakob Forstnig.

The Bad Kleinkirchheim lifts are also dedicated to the theme of art & culture on the mountain.

Hikes on the Wöllaner Nock, the Klomnock, the Predigerstuhl, or the Falkert are a special experience with their high-altitude trails from summit to summit. If you prefer a more laid-back ‚climb‘, the lifts will quickly take you up the Kaiserburg or Brunnach-Höhe. Thanks to the Kärnten Card, rides on the lifts are free for Trattlerhof guests. Tip: The latest news and dates for our hiking programme are available at www.trattlerhof.at. You will find regular Berggenießer tips to make your hiking experience special.

Exquisite wine enjoyment on the mountain Since 2011, ‚Winemakers on the Mountain‘ has been Highlights in summer the motto of the special Trattlerhof wine weekends, This past summer, numerous prominent vintners accepted the Forstnig family’s invitation to join them at the Trattlerhof. Each presented a hand-picked selection of their best wines.

In winter 2015/16, we are bringing winemakers up to our mountain peak. ‚The first item on the programme will be skiing with them before enjoying a wine tasting in one of the mountain restaurants. In summer, we will go on hikes with the vintners followed by a wine tasting on the summit‘, explains hotelier Jakob Forstnig of this latest wine experience. Otherwise, the traditional Trattlerhof wine weekends will retain their character. Friday: weekend opening tasting. Saturday: tasting menu in the rustic atmosphere of ‚Trattlers Einkehr‘.
