Situated in the picturesque setting of Sidi Abdel Rahman Bay, the hotel’s glamorous design ethos and refurbished retro-modern interiors hark back to the glory days of the 1960s, when the resort first opened. The remodelled designs blend vintage charm with contemporary style, evoking a sense of nostalgia to the golden age of Egyptian music and cinema. While the building stays true to its rich heritage, visitors can expect modern comfort and style everywhere, from the bar and restaurants to the corridors and rooms.

The hotel is also home to the renowned Umbrellas sculpture by Greek artist George Zongolopoulos, a poetic structure of steel umbrellas that stretches 13 metres into the sky, offering a dramatic reinterpretation of Abdel Halim Hafez’ classic oldie ‘Dokko Elshamasy’ or ‘Fix the Umbrellas on the Beach’. One of the most photographed modern sculptures worldwide, the piece was first displayed at the Venice Biennale in 1995, where it drew international attention, and will now delight visitors at this Egyptian vacation spot.

Science City, Cairo
Orion’s belt constellation is used to organize negative spaces on the site. This elucidates the ancient history of Egypt as Orion’s belt was used to organize the Pyramids, while also celebrating astronomy with architecture.
Three main courtyards are created using the organization of Orion’s belt constellation. These courtyards serve as public spaces which contain outdoor exhibitions, restaurants and parks. This also helps create green views for the buildings around it.
The negative space serves as the spine of project, acting as a communal space for public. The negative space defines the plan of ancient Egyptian temples, following the idea of wide to narrow spaces, as you walk further into the site.

The volumes around the site are pulled up to oat, allowing maximum experience of the science city by the pedestrians. This also allows shaded landscape area and outdoor exhibition spaces.
Roof is added on top of the volumes to unite all parts of the city, while also creating shaded spaces, reducing heat absorption and maximizing wind movement in the site. The roof also acts as a solar chip, providing energy for the science city.
The proposed science city was designed specfically to allow specfic buildings to be constructed before other parts of the project. Therefore, adminstration, exhibition halls, orientation hall and observation tower would be built in PHASE 1, while research center, high definition theatre, workshops and planterium will be built in PHASE 2 and finally, technical spaces and conference area will be built in PHASE 3. The program possesses a public ground floor to maximise interaction and experience of science city, lifting and specify program that allows a flexible building layout that can be modified to suit a specified program and a science park that connects the inside and outside by lifting the building program and keeping the ground floor open, thus effectively blending the program with the surrounding park.
