Industry update NRF Survey Reveals 2014’s Top Costumes

According to a National Retail Federation (NRF) 2014 Survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics, Disney’s Frozen and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) character costumes were expected to top kids’ Halloween costume wish lists last year. It was projected that an estimated 2.6 million kids planned to dress up in a Frozen costume, while about 1.8 million would dress up as one of the re-imagined classic characters from TMNT. The survey also revealed that princess (3.4 million), animal (3 million), and Spider-Man (2.6 million) costumes would be popular among kids as well. In addition, 75 million adults were expected to dress in costume, with most planning to stick to traditional options.

Rubie’s Grows Its Team

In Canada, Robert Bauer joins Rubie’s as the director of sales. With more than 20 years of experience in independent account sales in the Halloween and party industries, Bauer will be responsible for sales at the company’s independent accounts. Rubie’s has also announced the promotion of Renne Fink to general manager of the Imagine by Rubie’s sales division in the U.S. Fink came to Rubie’s in April with more than 20 years of experience in consumer product sales and experience in toys and the mass market and has since worked closely with the Imagine team. Lastly, Tempe Krieger, previously at Elope Inc., joins Rubie’s as the manager of West Coast operations. Krieger has 12 years of experience in the Halloween, toy, and fashion industries and more than 15 years of experience in sales and operations. In addition, Krieger is vice-chairman of the Halloween Industry Association.
