Insider Look at Home Decor

Deck the Halls With home décor sales on the rise, manufacturers are catering to consumers on all budgets. by Christine Duhaime ecking out the house for the holidays is one of the best parts of the season. While some may not include Halloween in “the holiday season,” it is the first of those end-of-the-year festivities that people young and old embrace and take part in, and driving around the block to check out the decorations can be just as exciting as it is at Christmastime. With an ever-improving economy and an upcoming Friday Halloween, home décor is poised to be one of the strongest categories this year. “After a few years of slow growth, 2013 was very successful [for home décor], says Warren Berkowitz, production development director at Rubie’s Costume Co. “We expect the trend to continue for weekend Halloween sales.” Rubie’s has developed a range of animated props that caters to price-conscious consumers, as well as those who want to go all-out. Animatronics has been on the rise, and indoor and outdoor decorations are proving equally popular. Fun World is responding to the trend with its own range of décor products. It will offer Day of the Dead gravestones and hanging figures, large spider webs, glow-in-the-dark handprints for windows and doors, and new pumpkin carving kits this year. Halloween isn't all about costumes and candy. Creating a spooky, gory, or gothic ambiance takes the holiday to the next level and allows revelers to celebrate for more than just one night. It’s a category that continues to grow, and shows no signs of stopping. x
