As a self-confessed book lover, reader, hoarder, talker (urm, you get the picture right?!) ... I am more than delighted to be joining Tickle as Bookshelf Editor. This first edition illustrates beautifully my vision to bring you a myriad of books which stay oh so true to Tickle’s philosophy of celebrating Australian designers and makers. Here I’ve covered arts and crafts, garden design AND a beautiful first book for young children. Eclectic? Yes. Exciting? Most definitely.

The intriguing opening pages guide Orpin’s readers gently through her working space. It’s always fun to take a peak at how others work and organise themselves! Within the introductory pages Orpin takes us through the inspiration she discovers through a myriad of everyday shapes, colours, patterns and graphics with short yet informative paragraphs, all accompanied by stunning visual content. Find & Keep is neatly divided into three clear sections ‘Studio Projects’, ‘Home Projects’ and ‘Out & About Projects’. True to Beci’s aim, it is brimming with inspiration. The accessibility, and range of Orpin’s projects make this one a winner for me. Projects include drift wood wind chimes, a skateboard ramp, kites, embroidery and even a few picnic recipes tucked in at the end.
When Beci Orpin describes her book as ‘a little trip through my stream of creative consciousness’ on the opening page, I’m already falling just a little bit in love.
The personal style to her writing garners interest and excitement; Orpin’s instructions are clear and detailed without being dry or condescending. Towards the end are a useful set of templates, together with a page of cute stickers.
