Running for the position involved challenging the incumbent Mayor After a twomonth campaign, Melissa got elected Mayor of Walkerville Council with a vast majority of nearly 74% of the votes in her favour That November, she was sworn in as the 22nd Mayor and the fifth female Mayor of Walkerville.

Melissa leads the Walkerville Council during an exciting period with several intergenerational capital projects to be funded and delivered over the next four years They include the redevelopment of sports and community clubs.

Melissa is passionate about the community and aims to use her platform to publicise the excellent volunteer work performed by community members and engage with local schools and community groups to facilitate better outcomes for all in the Town of Walkerville, along the River Torrens in Adelaide Melissa has previously publicised the work of local community groups who weed and replant native vegetation along the banks of the Torrens to encourage native fauna to return

In the short time Melissa has been Mayor, she has conferred citizenship on new citizens of Australia At the Australia Day citizenship ceremony, she presented Awards at local schools She spoke at the local Rotary Club and engaged with local members of parliament to promote outcomes for the benefit of the Town of Walkerville
