Vote for Better Ideas Please help assure a strong Pro Education Board by voting for the true “Pro Ed Candidates”. You have four good reasons to vote for the School Board April 1st: For the parents, for the children, for good staff and common sense buildings. You have four good candidates to lead that agenda. Elect, Koeppel, Palmer, Zaverousky and Dieck and you will not be fooled on April Fools’ Day, let’s call it “Save Our School’s Day”. It seems that all the other side wants is to close the City and Rural Elementary schools and spend $30,000,000 on a Mega School we don’t need. The other side doesn’t seem to get it. I solidly support Koeppel, Palmer, Zaverousky and Dieck. They are good people and will take a smarter look at things in a realistic light. I will be proud to say I voted for these candidates because they will put the kids first and meant it. Elect these candidates and you will have a Board you can trust and be proud of. These candidates, Koeppel, Palmer, Zaverousky and Dieck realize that a small child can learn better in a neighborhood elementary class room than riding a bus 2-3 hours every day in all kinds of weather. Parents know that the best education starts in the City and Rural Elementary Schools. These candidates are compassionate and will support the parents. On April 1st, vote with pride for Koeppel, Palmer, Zaverousky and Dieck. Jim Tatro Past School Board Member

Page 7 It’s time for the School Board to emphasize education With the recent reports from our District’s Principals, it’s become obvious that for the past several years, the school board has spent too much time worrying about money, salaries, buildings, and referendums, and not enough on education. In their quarterly student progress reports, presented in November of 2013, the District’s Principals reported the following. This is all documented in the written reports they each submitted. 1. Fewer than half of Antigo students are achieving proficiency in reading or math on state and other measures. 2. Far too many students have been identified as “learning disabled” and at too early of an age or level of development. 3. USDA lacks alternatives for struggling learners. 4. Almost no early attention or support is given academically advanced students. 5. A city elementary school reports that 75% of students reading skills are below the proficient level. 6. A city elementary school reports that 84% of students reading skills are below the proficient level including 41% of 4th graders and 58% of 5th graders are reading below grade level. 7. A rural elementary school reports that 47% of students reading skills are below the proficient level. 8. Middle school reports a large number of behavior and attendance problems with students including 2,550 behavioral events and 3,714 unexcused tardies. 9. Middle school reports that only 26% of students are reading at the proficient level or above. 10. High School reported that of all the USDA 2013 graduates that took the ACT college entrance exam, that exam determined that only 30% of them were actually college ready in English, math, social science, and biology. This is disturbing. These kids have little chance of success in life. The past boards, while busy spending our money, have not been emphasizing what they are really there for. Education. We send them our precious children and our tax dollars. We deserve better. I’m supporting Karin Koeppel, Clark Palmer, Gail Zaverousky, and Roy Dieck for school board on April 1st. On March 13th, Langlade Hospital participated in the Wisconsin Hospital Emergency Preparedness Program (WHEPP) regional exercise in collaboration with local partners. Exercises such as these are designed to identify gaps in various response plans and to bring together community and regional partners in an effort to streamline communication and offer the opportunity to work cooperatively to achieve a more effective and coordinated response. This year’s exercise centered on a regional ice storm and blizzard which included wide spread power outages and structural failures with multiple fatalities. Various hospital, city and county departments and agencies participated in the exercise including the coroner, emergency management, city and county law enforcement, EMS, and public health. Locally this exercise was considered a great success and demonstrated effective communication and coordination across participating agencies. Further planning will address mass fatality issues as well as integration of communication technologies between participating agencies.

The Perfect Wedding...

Wedding Planner Organization tips for couples planning a wedding Staying organized when planning a wedding is no small task, as the planning can be spread out over several months or even more than a year, making it difficult to keep track of what’s has and hasn’t been done. The following are a few organization tips that should help couples keep on track when planning a wedding. • Write things down. Whether you write things down the oldfashioned way in a notebook or jot down notes in a tablet, write down your plans as you go. Write down important phone numbers, vendor information and all the other details you’ll want instant access to. It’s important that such notes are taken in something that’s portable, allowing you to jot down notes immediately as opposed to forcing you to remember until you arrive home. • Create a to-do list. A to-do list is another great way to stay or-

ganized when planning your wedding. As you make certain decisions, simply strike those tasks from the list. This way you will know which tasks you’ve polished off and which ones you still need to work on. • Create a wedding calendar. Keep a calendar devoted specifically to the wedding. Include appointments with vendors and information regarding payment schedules and other deadlines on this calendar. If you set any deadlines for yourself, such as when you prefer to choose a band for the reception, jot these deadlines down on the wedding calendar as well. • Take a digital camera along when shopping for your wedding. Many couples want to explore their options before making any decisions with regard to attire, floral bouquets and other aspects of the wedding. But it can be difficult to remember all of the things you might have seen throughout the process. Bring a digital camera along when shopping so you won’t have to rely strictly on memory when making your final decisions. As you take pictures, upload them to your computer so when the time comes to make a decision,

those photos are easily accessible. • Delegate certain tasks. Even couples that consider themselves taskmasters can benefit from delegating some tasks when planning a wedding. This can save you some time and make it easier to keep track of everything. When delegating, ask friends or family to handle those tasks that don’t require a personal touch. For example, ask a best man or maid of honor to arrange for guest transportation to and from the airport. It’s not too much responsibility, but it’s one less thing for busy couples to worry about.

The Boys & Girls Club of Langlade County is pleased to be the recipient of a substantial grant from the Elwyn Remington Foundation that will allow the organization to replace and install new energy efficient lighting fixtures throughout the inside and outside of the Club. The Club has received $7,675 to replace dysfunctional lighting fixtures and to upgrade others to help save the Club money and ensure the safety of members, staff and visitors. The building that houses the Boys & Girls Club of Langlade County was built in 1924 and most recently had lighting fixtures updated in the 1980s. This will be the first lighting upgrade in decades and is expected to improve energy efficiency and safety. “We are very grateful to the Elwyn Remington Foundation for choosing the Boys & Girls Club of Langlade County to receive this gift,” said Liz Stickney, director of development and marketing. “We already have a crew working on upgrading the lighting, and the improvements are substantial.” The Elwyn Remington Foundation’s mission is to make grants and convene partners to make public improvements, promote public safety, and foster educational support for people in the greater Antigo area. The Boys & Girls Club of Langlade County serves 500 registered members. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We provide outcome driven programs focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character & citizenship.

THE COMING JUDGEMENT The Bible says, in Jeremiah 18:9-10, “And if I announce that I will plant and build up a certain nation or kingdom, making it strong and great, but then that nation turns to evil and refuses to obey Me, I will not bless it as I said I would!” Can you see the “Hand of God” being lifted in America today? Our Founding Father’s intentions were for America to always be a God Fearing nation. We, as a nation, have turned away from God. We are now a nation where anything goes or if it feels good do it! There is a HIGH PRICE TO PAY FOR SIN! The benefits and favor once given to America by God are being removed as a result of this. Jeremiah 18:11 warns us. “The Lord says I am planning a disaster against you instead of good!” God has clearly defined sin from the beginning, but many people still refuse to listen. The ONLY WAY to escape this judgment, is to accept God’s precious Son as your Savior!

Langlade County Health Department Have you thought about the potential for spring flooding and how this event could affect your life? Floods are one of the most common hazards in the United States and a little planning could help you and your family survive a life threatening situation. If you are under a flood watch or warning: • Gather emergency supplies such as a battery powered radio, flashlight, first aid kit, nonperishable food items, blankets, etc. and stay tuned to local radio and television stations for updates. • Fill bathtubs, sinks and plastic soda bottles with clean water. • Be ready to turn off all utilities at the main power switch and close the main gas valve if evacuation appears necessary. • Bring outdoor possessions, such as lawn furniture, grills and trash cans inside or tie them down securely. • Keep your vehicle filled with gas and know the potential escape routes in your area. • Identify essential documents such as medical records, insurance and credit cards, driver’s license, etc and put these items into a waterproof container to carry with you in case of evacuation. • Put pets and livestock in a safe area. These tips are brought to you by the Langlade County Health Department where your health and safety are our primary concern.

If you have any questions, call Langlade County Health Department at 715-627-6250.

Elect Koeppel, Palmer, Zaverousky and Dieck and you will not be fooled on April Fools’ Day, let’s call it “Save Our School’s Day”. I will be proud to say I voted for these candidates because they will put the kids first AND MEAN IT. Elect these candidates and you will have a Board you can trust and be proud of. These candidates, Koeppel, Palmer, Zaverousky and Dieck, realize that a small child can learn better in a neighborhood elementary classroom than riding a bus 2-3 hours every day in all kinds of weather. Parents know that the best education starts in the City and Rural Elementary Schools. These candidates are compassionate and will support the parents.

On April 1st, vote with pride for Koeppel, Palmer, Zaverousky and Dieck. Paid for by Concerned Parents and Taxpayer’s Committee, Jim Tatro, Treasurer
