Contemporary tweeds, soft, tactile textures and small scale geometrics sit with two beautifully artisanal print designs to create a highly original collection influenced by mid-20th century architecture and design, as exemplified by Brazil’s iconic federal capital, Brasilia. A strong mid-20th century palette of turquoise, purple, burnt orange, madder red and ochre combines with Mark Alexander’s sophisticated muted colourations.
BRASILIA
Around 1900 a young Japanese artist sailed to Europe, marking his voyage of discovery with a series of wonderful, minimal watercolours inspired by the interplay of ocean and sky. Perfectly attuned to Mark Alexander’s understated aesthetic, these watercolours have, over a century later, become the inspiration for the beautifully timeless linen prints and embroideries in this collection.
VOYAGE
Antique Kimonos were the inspiration for this diverse group of woven fabrics. A Japanese woodcut palette of greyed naturals, inky blues, washed purples and strong turquoise, is beautifully appropriate and complimentary to their gently ‘aged’ artisanal finish.
