SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Wednesday, Oct. 9
11 a.m. — A Conservation Tour of Cikana State DNR Fish Hatchery, 2650 Ind. 44, Martinsville, will give attendees the opportunity to learn and explore the fishery with a guided tour at 11 a.m. No bus transportation available. The tour will be approximately1.5 hours long. For more information and to register, call 765-349-2060 or email swcdoffice@morgancounty.in.gov. Noon to 5 p.m. — The annual Quilt Show will begin day one of its five-day display at the First Christian Church Disciple House, 89 S. Main St., Martinsville. Display hours include noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9; noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10; 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12; and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. 5 p.m. — The Fall Foliage Festival Poetry Contest reception will take place at the Morgan County Public Library Main Branch, 110 S. Jefferson St., Martinsville. 6 p.m. — The Fall Foliage Festival Photography Contest reception will take place at the Morgan County Public Library Main Branch, 110 S. Jefferson St., Martinsville. 7 to 10 p.m. — The annual Card Party will be held at the Martinsville Senior Center, 1369 N. Blue Bluff Road, Martinsville. This year’s card party includes playing progressive games such as Euchre. Patrons are able to bring their own card games and refreshments are served.
Thursday, Oct. 10
9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — The Purdue Cooperative Extension Office of Morgan County hosts Farmer’s Day to educate children and adults alike about farm life. At this year’s events, we will have a variety of livestock to see, touch and learn about, and machinery demonstrations along with harvest and heritage crafts. This is a free event at the Morgan County Fairgrounds and is open to the public.
This is an opportunity for second-grade school children and the general public to learn about the importance of agriculture in Morgan County, using both modern and historical methods. Please come out and visit the various demonstration stations. Enjoy education on beekeeping, apple butter making, and Extension Homemaker heritage crafts while observing the Antique Machinery volunteers demonstrate corn shelling. Learn about plant-to-table food production and be amongst the animals as you walk the fairgrounds. 5 to 9 p.m. — The Harvest Craft Tent and Outdoor Market opens to the public, beginning its four-day run at the festival in which vendors are invited to come and sell their goods and services to the patrons of the festival. The market place will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 11 a.m. to dusk on Saturday and Sunday. 5 to close — The Luehrs Carnival will host Family Bargain Night, which only requires ONE TICKET per ride/rider. This is the only night for that bargain. 6 p.m. — The Fall Foliage Festival Art Show will take place at the Art Sanctuary, 190 N. Sycamore St., Martinsville. 6 to 8 p.m. — Customer Appreciation Night gives local businesses the opportunity to come set up a table along Main Street to present their business or products to the community. Business are invited to hand out “freebies” such as coupons, discounts and samples. Free Stage Events 5 to 6 p.m. — Kids say the Darndest Things 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Blue Eyes and Gray Skies (Band) 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. — Kids Dance Party
Friday, Oct. 11
5 to 9 p.m. — Harvest Craft Tent, Outdoor Market and Carnival are ALL open for business from through-
out the evening. Free Stage Events 5 to 6 p.m. — Apple Bobbing: Adults and kids alike can participate in a fun, old-fashioned festival event — apple bobbing! There will be individual buckets used per bobber for sanitation purposes. Saturday, Oct. 12
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. — The Car, Truck, Motorcycle Show and SWAP meet will take place at the John R. Wooden Middle School parking lot, 109 E. Garfield Ave., Martisnville. Bring your family and friends to the annual car show and check out some old, new and unique automobiles. The show is FREE to the public and FREE to attend. *To enter a vehicle in the show, please be prepared to fill out a Vehicle Identification form at 8 a.m. on Oct. 12. *$12 entry fee* 9 a.m. to noon — Kids Events (Sponsored by Costin Funeral Chapel): Registration takes place the day of the events at 9 a.m. All necessary items to play the games will be provided and this is a FREE event that is open to the public. Games include the Bean Bag Toss, Bubble Gum Blowing Contest, the Tricycle Race, the Straw Search, the Football Toss and the Tractor Pull. The Coloring Contest winners will also be announced at this time. 11 a.m. to close — The Harvest Craft/Outdoor Market/ Artisan Market and Carnival resumes. Welcome to the 2019 Fall Foliage Festival! My name is Bob Strader and this is my seventh year as the board president for the Morgan County Fall Foliage Festival. However, I have served on the board for 17 years. Heading up this festival has been a lot of fun, and I look forward to it each year. The theme for the 2019 Fall Foliage Festival is “Our 60th Anniversary,� and things have been busy at the office — as we expect this time of the year. Please read over the insert and check out what’s happening in your town the week of Oct. 10 to 13. We invite each and every one of you to come out and enjoy the fall colors and the festivities. Noon to 4 p.m. — The Radio Controlled Air Show will take place at Nebo Memorial Park, 3295 Ind. 252, Martinsville. A group of radio-controlled airplane enthusiasts will fly and perform stunts with giant radio-controlled planes. This show is FREE and open to the public. Bring a blanket to sit on and watch these amazing planes perform. Noon to 5 p.m. — Street performances start at noon, when the streets will be shut down for showcases by a variety of local groups, including Gentry Martial Arts from noon to 1 p.m.; Rhythm Chaser Cloggers from 1 to 2 p.m.; Martinsville Academy from 2 to 3 p.m.; Elite Dance and Acrobatics from 3 to 4 p.m.; and Studio J2 Dance from 4 to 5 p.m. 5 to 6 p.m. — Pie Eating Contest (Sponsored by Gray Brothers Cafeteria): Gray Bros. Cafeteria in Mooresville has graciously agreed to donate pumpkin pies for a Pie Eating Contest! There will be three age groups: Adults (ages 18 and over), Juniors (ages 12 to 17), and Youngin’s (ages 7 to 11). The COST is $1 to participate. *To sign up to be a participant, come to the free stage by 4: 30 p.m. We have a limited number of pies, so it is first come, first serve.* 6 to 10 p.m. — Free Stage Performances kick off for the third straight night, and include the Martinsville Community
Services Demonstration from 6 to 7 p.m.; the Straight Davis band from 7 to 7:45 p.m.; and the Sesmore band from 8 to 10 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 13 8 a.m. — Registration and pickup starts for the Fall Foliage 5k Run and Walk, which is an event for all ages and abilities. This event will run the parade route through the middle of town. The certified course is FLAT and FAST. Awards for the top three male and female competitors in the Run and Walk and age group awards. Post-race food, drinks and possibly raffle prizes. Volunteers and sponsors needed! The run and walk begins at 9:30 a.m. at Bell Intermediate Academy, 1459 E. Columbus St., Martinsville. Entry fee is $20 with online registration at mag7raceseries.com by midnight, Oct. 12, including T-shirt; $25 on race day with limited shirts available. 9 a.m. — The Open Air Church Service with pastor Skip Roten will take place on the free stage. Come worship in the open air. 11 a.m. — Harvest Craft Tent/Outdoor Market/Artisan Market and Carnival will be open for the final day of the festival. 1 p.m. (Route shut-down begins at 12:10 p.m.) — The 60th Annual Fall Foliage Festival Parade will step off from Bell Intermediate Academy, and the parade route will circle around town via Washington Street then East Columbus Street and end at Martinsville High School.

2019 Morgan County Fall Foliage Parade By Fall Foliage Festival MARTINSVILLE — The Morgan County Fall Foliage Festival board members are excited for the 60th annual festival! Tradition will continue to play a major role with the parade serving as the finale event on Sunday, Oct. 13, beginning at 1 p.m. Members of the board want to express their thanks to the William and Helen Schwab Foundation, which will be the Parade Sponsor again this year. Parade Committee member Julie Callis shared that she is so grateful to the Schwab Family for sponsoring the parade for the community because without their generosity, it would be difficult to have a parade of this magnitude. The Parade Grand Marshals this year are John (XIV) and Pam Badger, owners of the Martinsville Candy Kitchen, which is celebrating 100 years. The Fall Foliage Festival’s theme this year is “Celebrating 60 Years.”
According to Callis, we are thankful for the years of traditions and memories the Festival has given to the community, and we are excited about celebrating our 60th “Diamond” year. Currently, the parade has five divisions with 131 units participating, five bands competing for a $1,000 prize, and 13 floats competing for the 10 float awards, totaling $2,900 in prize money. Callis noted last year’s two new float awards are back this year. The “Praise Worthy Award,” for Church Floats only, sponsored by My Joy 100.5 and Spirit 95 Radio Stations pays $1,000 to the winner. The “William D. Shields Award” sponsored by Shields Designs pays $500 to the winner of a Service Club Float or a Non-Profit Philanthropic Club entry. Shields Designs helps keep festival awards unique By Fall Foliage Festival MARTINSVILLE — The Morgan County Fall Foliage Festival will have new plaques this year to present for awards “Celebrating 60 Years.” According to FFF Board Member Julie Callis, the traditional festival plaques are no longer available, as the machine used by the vendor for these is no longer in operation. With this development, the festival was confronting the possibility that it would have to change to rectangular plaques, purchased retail, and have to retire the leaf-shaped plaques. So Callis reached out to Shields Designs, knowing owners Brad and Karen Shields produced banners last year for the Fall Foliage parade and also a specialty wooden plaque for the William D. Shields Float Award. Callis explained to them that the festival might not be able to afford a plaque of the quality produced by Shields Designs as the FFF’s income comes strictly from donations and fundraisers. “Shields Designs stepped up in a major way, not only providing the plaques but donating all of their labor as a Platinum Sponsorship,” Callis said. The FFF’s only cost was providing the wood for the plaques.

“Brad and Karen’s generosity will not be forgotten,” Callis said. “The festival is so grateful for what they
have done to keep the leaf-shaped plaques as the festival’s legacy and especially for the 60th anniversary.” Callis also wanted to give a special “thank you” to Melissa Dillon at Shields Designs, who managed the project and put in many hours for its completion. Callis was thankful to all the sponsors who give generously to the festival to keep it going each year. She shared that the William and Helen Schwab Foundation has been a Platinum sponsor for the last several years by sponsoring the Parade, which is a huge expense to the festival. She also wanted to thank WCBK and the Reporter-Times for their charitable contributions to the advertising of the festival. Keller’s Printing Supply also donated the Limited Edition 60th Anniversary Information Booklets as a souvenir for this year. DeLyn’s Jewelry donated a diamond necklace for a give-away in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the festival. Every sponsor matters and is appreciated for whatever amount they can give, for whatever service they can provide, or for whatever time they can give.
