GLOBAL AWARD FOR LOCAL HEART VALVE A team of dedicated local heart surgeons and medical engineers have perfected a heart valve that will save millions of young lives particularly in poor third world communities across the globe. The breakthrough comes at the time of the 50th anniversary of the world’s first heart transplant, by Professor Christiaan Barnard, which took place at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town on 3 December 1967. Aimed at millions of patients in developing countries who would die without open-heart surgery, the valve allows doctors to repair or replace diseased heart valves at rural hospitals without the need for expensive, sophisticated, equipment or open-heart surgery. This is a breakthrough in medical technology.

CLIMBING THREE PEAKS TO SEE URBAN HEROES REACH NEW HEIGHTS At 6:00am on Saturday, 14 November, nearly 60 people gathered at the bottom of Devil’s Peak, after months of training, to begin a day’s worth of hiking mountains. Three to be exact. These people weren’t gathered because they are crazy (though for some that might be questionable), they were gathered for a shared purpose. For four years now, The Message Trust has challenged both team members and activists alike, to climb three of Cape Town’s well-known peaks in order to raise funds and awareness for The Message to be able to continue their work throughout the city. The Message Trust exists to raise up generations of urban heroes, creating opportunities for tens of thousands of urban teenagers and young adults to hear the good news of Jesus in word and demonstrated in action. This year’s goal of the fundraiser was not just to raise R125,000, but to actively unite in shared interest

to spread awareness of The Message’s vision of reaching at-risk youth and transforming their lives and communities for the better. As team members and activists conquered Devil’s Peak, Table Mountain, and Lion’s Head, it served as a beautiful reminder of The Message’s desire to see gangsterism, crime, poverty, and unemployment conquered throughout Cape Town. By working together, we can succeed in raising up Urban Heroes that provide solutions to the problems their communities face. “Three Peaks is a highlight of our year. It’s amazing to see the effort people make in order to support our work. Thanks to everyone who hiked, gave, and cheered us on!” — Tim Tucker - CEO, The Message Trust For more info: www.message.org.za THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE
