We asked Certified Financial Planner, Donovan Adams from Chartered Wealth Solutions to answer some of our readers’ financial questions.
QUESTION: I am just befuddled about Christians who proclaim the gospel of prosperity and yet there are many poor Christians in Africa. I just want to know how I am supposed to help those people and also enjoy a great life where I would never be in need of money ever again? Dhanalutchmee Mootyen – Mauritius
DONOVAN’S ANSWER: I firmly believe that any “prosperity gospel” teaching is false doctrine. Faith in Christ Jesus is an incredible free gift from God resulting in our justification (saving) from sin. This is the true gospel and is really good news to us sinners! God has done everything. We do nothing to earn our salvation. Paul explains this in depth in Romans. Sanctification, however, is the ongoing out-working of God’s saving grace in our daily lives. Good stewardship of our money is part of our sanctification. Tithing is part of good stewardship. Pray for organisations or churches to partner with financially, and continue to steward your money well. Godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Tim 6:6).
