Dear Students, It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to the Boston Architectural College! As you progress through your design journey, you will find many amazing opportunities to expand your creative knowledge and learn from experienced practicing designers, both within and outside of our classrooms and studios. Best of all, along with your skills, you will develop an impressive resume, portfolio, and professional network that will guide you throughout your design career. The College is located in Boston’s historic Back Bay, which features prominent architecture, renowned museums, and a famously extensive university culture, making it an ideal location to study design. YOUR EXPERIENCE student life We are pleased to welcome you and feel that you will make a great addition to our student body. Here at the BAC you’ll find there is no shortage of activities and events to get involved in. Meet, network, and socialize with fellow students, faculty, and professional leaders through a variety of social, community, and professional student organizations. Engage in some of our student events including First Fridays where students congregate offcampus for a social gathering with free food. Celebrate the academic year with PARTI, the annual event where BAC students and alumni enjoy a night of cocktails, a live band, and DJ’d dance party. LIVING IN BOSTON housing The BAC is located in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay, in close proximity to design firms, galleries, museums, cultural institutions and landmarks.The Office of Student Life is here to help you with all aspects of off-campus living, including getting involved with campus life, finding roommates, signing a lease, and learning how to navigate the city. Since all students at the BAC live off-campus, most of our programs and services are designed for you no matter where you live. It should be noted that for the first time, the BAC is offering a residence hall option at Pine Manor College. Read on to the next page to learn more. Our off-campus housing website housing.the-bac.edu is your one-stop shop to apartment living in and around the city of Boston. This site has it all, from current apartment listings to finding housing from abroad to information on knowing your rights as a tenant.

LIVING IN RESIDENCE HALLS residence hall option
Some students are looking for a traditional college residential experience.This year, we are partnering with Pine Manor College to make an ideal living situation for first-time undergraduates, international students, and others who seek an alternative to commuting long distances by car. Pine Manor College is in nearby Brookline, MA in Chestnut Hill, a quiet, safe and elegant part of town. The BAC is a thirty-minute ride on the MBTA D green line train to the Hynes stop, right on our block. In addition, students may have cars on Pine Manor’s campus. Each residence hall is shared with approximately 30 other students. Double and Single rooms, both with shared bathrooms, are available. Accommodations are roomy enough for working on your assignments for design studios.
meal program Included in the cost are meals at our Dining Hall. The Dining Hall, which is operated by ARAMARK, provides 14 meals per week including brunch and dinner on the weekends. These include hot and cold entrees and many cook-to-order options. Dining halls are shared with PMC students and others from other smaller colleges.
security Pine Manor’s Campus Safety department works to protect students’ welfare on campus. Three security officers including a supervisor are always on duty. In addition, Pine Manor College’s front gate is manned 24-hours a day while at least one officer walks the campus.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT library The BAC houses one of the oldest, most historic architecture and design libraries in the country. The Memorial and The Shaw and Stone Libraries support the curricula of all programs offered by the College through careful selection of print materials and electronic resources. Subjects of primary focus include architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, design history, theory, and criticism, materials and structures, and sustainable design. The Library owns approximately 44,000 books, subscribes to over 120 journal titles, and also holds a large collection of applicable codes and standards. Periodicals include a range of scholarly journals, trade publications, and popular magazines of related interest. Library staff empower students to understand and use these resources through information literacy training and research support. The Materials Library at the BAC serves as a resource for students and faculty in all disciplines of design. It houses thousands of physical material samples that students and faculty can access for classroom projects, presentations, experimentation, and beyond. The vast collection invites creativity, exploration, and discovery and enhances each individual designer’s educational experience.
academic resources On campus, take advantage of our knowledgeable support staff, world class facilities, and state of the art technology. You will be assigned an Academic Advisor when you begin classes, or your first semester, Admissions alongside the Advising Services staff will assist you in selecting your courses during New Student Orientation. Beyond your initial registration, Academic Advisors are available to meet with students for a wide variety of reasons. In addition to academic advice,The BAC’s Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides a range of tutoring and writing consultation services to help students with their studies. All tutoring is free and is available via drop-in, by appointment, or both, depending on the subject.
technology resources The BAC provides state of the art technology services and resources. Our goal is to provide each student and faculty with the necessary tools, training, and support to create an optimal learning experience. Resources include workstations with monitors, laptops and tablets, 3D, B&W, color and plot printing devices, media equipment, photo laboratory and equipment, fabrication labs with new, state of the art laser cutters, CNC router,a wood-shop complete with Saw Stop table saw, jointer, planar, drill press, band saw, chop saw, orbital and belt sanders, and a full range of woodworking hand tools. Each teaching space has projectors permanently installed with a dedicated computer. FINANCIAL SUPPORT
financial aid The Financial Aid Office is available to help you with financing your education. Students at the BAC receive many different types of financial aid, ranging from federal grants and loans to aid from their home state. Please visit our website to get a better understanding of the different types of aid offered to our students. The BAC also offers several institutional scholarships to reward outstanding and deserving students. If you have not already done so the BAC recommends that all eligible students apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov.
• Designate the BAC as a recipient of your FAFSA by including our school code, 003966. • Family income and asset information should be readily available as you complete the FAFSA. • Please use the IRS data retrieval tool to fill out the income information on the FAFSA. If you complete the FAFSA application prior to completing your tax return, simply log back onto the FAFSA website to make a correction to include this tool. • Questions about the FAFSA application should be directed to the toll-free help line at 1.800.433.3243.
