FROM THE CEO It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2021 virtual EIC Awards ceremony. While the EIC Awards have been an established fixture in the energy industry calendar for many years now, 2021 marks the fifth year of award finalists originating from the EIC’s flagship Survive and Thrive Insight Report. 61 businesses shared their inspiring success stories with me during interviews earlier this year. Almost all of the participating EIC member companies were of course influenced by COVID-19, but surprisingly many found the pandemic to be a catalyst for transformative change rather than just forcing survival strategies. Each year the report looks at the growth strategies employed by member companies to survive and thrive in challenging market conditions, and diversification was once again found to be the most popular strategy for the second year in a row. We also saw companies moving towards energy transition technologies and increased sustainability efforts in the year of COP26. One of the most notable findings was that the least popular growth strategy, for the fifth year now, is developing new exports or entering new international markets. While it is indeed the hardest strategy, research shows that companies that have a high percentage of revenues linked to exports are more profitable and resilient. As we kick things off for the EIC Awards, I would like to thank all of our partners and sponsors that have made this year’s event possible, particularly our Headline Sponsor EthosEnergy and Video Partner OGV Energy.

A huge thank you to our more-than 50 esteemed judges, representing the full spectrum of energy sectors and the whole energy value chain. Judging such high calibre entries is a demanding process and we appreciate the judges’ time and efforts in helping to choose the winners in each category. And of course, thanks to Team EIC for organising another excellent virtual awards ceremony and continuing to raise the bar time and time again. Don’t forget to dress up, have a nice drink in hand, and take the time to reflect and celebrate, and of course to applaud those that win if you’re not the lucky one this year. We hope to welcome all of you to our physical After-Party on Tuesday 1 February during Offshore Europe in Aberdeen, located in the OGV Taproom, hosted by our Principal Sponsor CMP Products and Supporting Sponsor Roxtec. And finally, the interviews for the 6th edition of the EIC Survive and Thrive report start again in January, so keep an eye out for the invitation email or social media posts – and why not get involved in 2022! Stuart Broadley EIC CEO
