Any mishap in the traffic of the Turkish straits would constitute a serious hazard for a metropolis like Istanbul with its more than 16 million inhabitants and would have an important impact on the world’s oil supply. Samsun-Ceyhan is designed to alleviate this heavy traffic. 4. Iraq-Turkey gas pipeline project As it was mentioned earlier, Iraq has 3.2 trillion cubic meters in natural gas.
