Clean and Crisp Highlights of Q3 2007 Traer Industrial Development: During Fall 2007 Wayne Engineering announced its intent to locate their new street sweeper division in Traer, IA. The project is estimated to be a multimillion dollar Real Estate Development project and create 30 jobs with the potential to expand to 150 employees over 3 years. The goal is to have the new facility constructed by May 2008. Tama-Toledo Industrial Development: Prospects are currently in negotiation to reopen and expand the Iowa Quality Beef facility. The expansion is projected to be a multi million dollar Real Estate investment, and create as many as 700 jobs over time. Rasmussen Salt ‘n Pepper Shaker Museum: Traer recently announced the successful completion of phase I in fundraising to move the Midwest’s biggest Salt ‘n Pepper Shaker Museum to a bigger and designated space. The project is now also receiving national attention. US news and CBS evening news producers have been in contact. www.tamacountyiowa.org/pressroom Tama County Tourism hosting 2009 Iowa Tourism Conference: With the support of Tama-Toledo Chamber, Marshalltown Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and Meskwaki, the first phase of phase one of the fundraising is almost complete. Short-term economic impact is projected to be $800K. Ultimate goal is to secure $10,000 to finance and maximize the economic impact of this event. Housing: Nov 29, Region 6 Planning announced that a partial rehab grant is still available under the HOME project for first time home buyers. Green Power: Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) announced that financial, marketing and tactical incentives are being expanded to stimulate the green movement. Dysart’s Union School District is an example of an organization that is also taking an active role in this process. Initially it started with minor projects like installing more energy efficient light bulbs. Now it has evolved to installing two test wind towers. Ground Breaking: Sep 21, Meskwaki Settlement School broke ground on a 25-classroom addition to double the size of the original school building. Cost of construction has been projected to be between $21-$24 million. Iowa Connections: Fall marketing initiative included representation at the 2007 Wind Energy Conference, a Sell Iowa trip to Chicago, Omaha Product show Exhibit, and attendance at the AMI Chicago Food Show. IT’S A GIRL! On Friday Aug 31, Jerome and Joanne Husak, Tama County Economic Development Secretary and Reinig Center Manager, welcomed Kylie Jennifer Husak. 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and 20 inches of growing joy. During Joanne’s six weeks of maternity leave, Dorothy Backen stepped in and supported the Reinig Center and Economic Development. A heartfelt thank you to Dorothy. Joanne is back now, so don't hesitate to stop by and say welcome back.
