Welcome from M&J Farms... Welcome to the 2017 edition of the M & J Farms annual bull sale. 2016 presented many challenges however we here at M & J also had some outstanding events in 2016 to reflect upon. The sixth generation of Glasman’s have arrived! Matthew and Leanne’s daughter Sarayah Grace our first grandchild arrived in February. In December, Jared and Chelsey presented us with a grandson, McCoy Jay. This is pretty darn exciting and we couldn’t be more pleased with these additions to our family. With these new arrivals at our family operation brings renewed enthusiasm for the job at hand, that is raising top quality breeding stock. We take this task very seriously knowing there are no short cuts and that we must stay the course. We thank our many past customers for their support and belief in our program. It has been evident all summer to us and commented on by many that this may overall be our most powerful and consistent pen of bulls to date. Each category has some outstanding individuals and quality that runs deep. Included in our Simmental offering are several bulls bred by Bruce Robinson, Black Diamond Simmentals that came with their dams in a package we purchased. Without a doubt the Black Angus offering from Matt and Leanne’s MLG herd is diverse and powerful.

Our philosophy for developing these bulls remains focused on doing it sustainably for both the bulls and us. It starts here with a March/April birthdate, no creep, grass and lots of exercise as long yearlings. The bulls are then developed with a forage based silage ration til sale time. These key points are practiced and emphasized to develop breeding bulls that are sound, can get out there to cover your cows and stay in the game for the long haul. We try to raise breeding bulls the way we like to buy them. This year we will again have some commercial bred heifers on offer. They are bred for March-April calving to our red or black Simmental or Black Angus walking herd bulls. The T Bar C team will be on hand to help evaluate and assist in your selections be it in person or on the phone. We invite you to make yourself known to Chris, Shane and Nate to take advantage of their knowledge and insight of our offering. We welcome you to come and see the bulls anytime before February 16th or view their online videos. Come sale day evaluate the bulls adjacent to our sale barn then join us for lunch and pie. Can’t get here for the sale? We offer a ‘sight unseen program’ plus the sale will be online on DVAuctions where real time bidding is available. This has become a very useful option for more and more buyers every year. All of us here at M & J and Glasman Farms are available at any time to visit with you and discuss your needs. See you on sale day.

As we start into a new year, we will also be entering a new chapter in the beef business. We are still feeling the rippling effect of last year’s cattle market and as any other commodity that trades, we will see highs, lows and corrections. I believe that the fall of 2016 was the correction. As we soared to record levels at a record pace the previous two years, it is no surprise we have seen a correction back and will see a more modest growth pattern moving forward. I believe 2017 will transform into a high profitable year in the beef business. As in any situation one must look for the positive, the opportunity as a beef producer to align himself for the next spike and forward movement in the beef industry will be this spring. The Glasman families have certainly earned a reputation for providing Simmental and Angus seedstock of high quality, sustainable bulls that have been designed and developed for the long haul. These bulls are based from a no-nonsense cowherd and developed on grass and fed a high roughage silage based ration. It is a rare opportunity to select bulls that have been developed in this fashion and sold to you the customer to turn out at two years of age. The value of a extra age bull in your breeding season is invaluable, as a stronger more uniform set of calves to sell each fall will always fetch a higher dollar. The Simmental section of this sale is as solid from front to back as it has ever been. This group of red and black bulls are sound, correct, hairy beef producing machines. They stem from years of selection and evaluation on a cowherd built from maternal strength, longevity do-ability and overall eye appeal. They will maintain a desirable birth weight while still adding pounds to your next calf crop. On the Angus side of the coin we have much of the same principles. This group will offer the most astute cowman to take note. As you study the offering you will notice the same low birth to high growth numbers. They are packed with proven genetics that will add maternal traits, as well as added valued to your sale pen each fall. The same credentials apply to the Angus cowherd as the Simmental with a no-nonsense approach. Plan to join us at the farm sale day for one of the only chance to shop for Simmental and Angus extra age bulls from one family this spring . We at T Bar C have been in the bull pen and are familiar with the program and people who have provided Simmental and Angus seed-stock for over 40 years. We can answer any questions you may have or assist with your appraisals and absentee buying requirements in the professional manner you deserve and expect.
