WORSHIP, PRAYERS, PEACE CHANTS

Procedure: Sri Ramakrishna’s Daily Worship Procedure: - five Items It is recommended that we bath and wear fresh clothes or especially reserved clothes to perform the worship. This maintains the purity of the shrine. Play holy chant or bhajans on a tape, until the worship begins. Clean the alter area. Remove the used flowers and place them in the bushes situated next to the temple. Clean the incense plate and the oil lamp. Get the necessary fresh articles ready. The most important part of the worship is the touch of devotion and faith that actuate the worshipper. 1. Make salutations. 2. With the use of paper towels or a special handkerchief that is wet with a mild scent and a few drops of water, wipe the pictures and dry them. 3. Prayer प्राथना

O lord, be gracious to accept this humble puja of mine, not minding its defects and out of your infinite grace vouchsafe unto me unswerving devotion to your feet. Please see that I always remember you and do not forget you at any movement, as long as I live. O Lord, May I have love and devotion for you and faith in your allpervading and all-merciful presence ever protecting me from all evil thoughts and deeds. May I realize you in this life itself. I have neither devotion nor strength enough to reach the goal. So out of your infinite grace please grant unto me whatever is necessary to realize you in this life. Oh, Lord may I never forget your name. I take refuge in you, please assign me to your service and destroy my ego, and burn all my doubts. You are my Master, you are my Guru, you are my father, and you are my mother and all in all. I am your child. Please guide me to the path of blessedness. Make me your instrument, do not delude me with your bewitching maya. O my sweet Lord, I have not seen you, I have only heard your name, and I only know your name. I can utter your name that is all I can do, please make me your own.

Do you ever protect me, do you ever guide me, do you fill my heart with your divine presence, purity, love and bliss. Oh Lord, you are manifested in countless forms. May I be able to love you and serve you in the many, and thus realise the highest goal of my life. Oh Lord, do you ever shower your choicest blessings on me. Om Tat Sat, Om Tat Sat, Om Tat Sat.

Thou art my All in All, O Lord! The Life of my life, the Essence of essence; In the three worlds I have none else but Thee to call my own. Thou art my peace, my joy, my hope; Thou my support, my wealth, my glory; Thou my wisdom and my strength. Thou art my home, my place of rest; my dearest friend, my next of kin; My present and my future, Thou; my heaven and my salvation. Thou art my scriptures, my commandments; Thou art my ever gracious Guru; Thou the Spring of my boundless bliss. Thou art the Way, and Thou the Goal; Thou the Adorable One, O Lord! Thou art the Mother tender-hearted; Thou the chastising Father; Thou the Creator and Protector; Thou the Helmsman who dost steer my craft across the sea of life.

Sri Ramakrishna’s Prayer to Divine Mother: O Mother, I throw myself on Thy mercy; I take shelter at Thy Hallowed Feet. I do not want bodily comforts; I do not crave name and fame; I do not seek the eight occult powers. Be gracious and grant that I may have pure love for Thee, A love unsmitten by desire, untainted by any selfish ends- A love craved by the devotee for the sake of love alone. And grant me the favor, O Mother, That I may not be deluded by Thy worldbewitching maya, That I may never be attached to the world, To ‘lust and gold’, conjured up by Thy inscrutable maya! O Mother, there is no one but Thee whom I may call my own. Mother, I do not know how to worship; I am without austerity; I have neither devotion nor knowledge. Be gracious, Mother, and out of Thy infinite mercy, Grant me love for Thy Lotus Feet.

Chant the Name of The Lord Chant the name of the Lord, and his glory unceasingly, That the mirror of the heart may be wiped clean And quenched that mighty forest within. Oh Name, stream down in moonlight on the lotus-heart, Opening its cup to knowledge of Thyself. Oh self, drown deep in the waves of His bliss, Tasting His nectar at every step Bathing in His Name, that bath or weary souls. Various are Thy Names, Oh Lord, In each and every Name Thy power resides. No times are set, no rites are needful for chanting of Thy name, and so vast is thy mercy, How huge then is my wretchedness, Who find in this empty life and heart No devotion to Thy Name. Oh my mind, Be humbler than a blade of grass, Be patient and forbearing like a tree, Take no honor to thyself, give honor to all, Chant unceasingly the Name of the Lord. Oh Lord and Soul of the Universe, Mine is no prayer for wealth or retinue, The playthings of lust or the toys of fame; As many times as I may be reborn, Grant me, Oh Lord, a steadfast love for thee. A drowning man in this world’s fearful ocean Is Thy servant, Oh sweet one? In Thy mercy,

Consider him as dust beneath Thy feet. Ah, how I long for the day When an instant separation from Thee, Oh Lord, Will be as a thousand years, When my heart burns away with its desire And the world, without Thee, is a heartless void. Prostrate at Thy feet let me, in unwavering devotion, Neither imploring the embrace of Thine arms Nor bewailing the withdrawal of Thy presence Though it tears my soul asunder. Oh Thou, who stealest the hearts of Thy devotees, Do with me what Thou wilt – For Thou art my heart’s Beloved, Thou and Thou alone.

Universal Prayer May all be happy; may all being be peaceful and blissful; May everyone realize God. Oh Lord, Lead us from the unreal to the Real, Lead us from darkness to Light, And lead from death to Immortality. May all be free from dangers, May all realize what is good, May all the actuated by noble thoughts, May all rejoice everywhere. May all be happy, May all be free from disease, May all realize what is good, May none be subject to misery. May the wicked become virtuous, May the virtuous attain tranquility, May the tranquil be free from bond, May the freed make others free May good betide all people, May the sovereign righteously rule the earth. May all beings ever attain what is good, May the worlds be prosperous and happy. May the clouds pour rain in time, May the earth be blessed with crops, May all countries be freed from calamity, May holy men live without fear.

May the Lord, the destroyer of sins The presiding Deity of all sacred works be satisfied For, He being pleased, the whole universe becomes pleased, He being satisfied, the whole universe feels satisfied.
