Q2 2015

Report

1

Welcome to the quarter two report April, May and June were exceptionally busy for the SpunOut.ie crew. We had record traffic (300,000 visits) and lots of new information content was published. We said goodbye to two brilliant staff members, Niamh and Alan, we hope they’re enjoying their new adventures. We received delivery of the second edition of the ‘SpunOut.ie Survival Guide’ in June and we’ve already shipped over 2,600 copies. We also ran a campaign to help educate our readership about how important a good night’s sleep is for our physical and mental health. We tried our best to encourage our readers to get out and vote in the marriage equality referendum in May and were delighted to see so many young people engage. And finally, we received the very happy news in Q2 that our animation series #DitchTheMonkey won the European Health Share Jury Prize Award for the most creative and innovative healthcare web communication in 2014. That’s all for now. See you in October! Ian Power, Executive Director.

ďƒ¤ How we did in quarter two 3

Our visitors in quarter two A brilliant quarter with almost 300,000 visits in just these 12 weeks. The quarter contained the busiest week, second busiest day and third busiest day of 2014/2015 so far. So amazing work. We also saw traffic further moving towards our under 25 demographic (18-24 year old visitor numbers increased 14% over 2014) and the male/female balance progressed even further. It currently stands at 60% female to 40% male (64%/36% in 2014). Over 84% of traffic came from Ireland which means we served about 15,000 people here every week.

All data compared against Q1 2014. A change in our definition of bounce has lead to counting visits which engage with the content more as not being bounce traffic which is more useful to us than only considering visitors who visit more than one page. Expect this to show a fall in bounce throughout 2015. Pages per visit will track usage of website with more than one page being consumed with bounce being reflective of countent with less engagement. *PPV was impacted by an inproper cookie notification present in the site in 2014, which inflated that years statistics for pages per visit.

Social media in quarter two With the sad departure of our comms manager, Alan, at the end of May, the social media management is now being split between the secure hands of the editorial team. In other social media news, SpunOut.ie is now lucky to be in receipt of some very generous grants from Facebook. We are putting these to good use by targeting our posts better and reaching a wider demographic.

European Health Share Award And the European Health Share Jury Award goes to Ireland! The HealthShare Award was established in 2012 and is the first award to honour innovative social media communication in the European health sector. Its aim is to stir things up and to breathe some fresh air into the healthcare sector, where the use of new media is sometimes still outdated. We were delighted to have been selected by the Jury to receive the 2014 prize for our animation series #DitchTheMonkey and the communications campaign behind it’s success.

Voter Registration and helpdesk

With two referendums being held in May, SpunOut.ie team up with the USI to ensure that young people were registered to vote, that they had the info they needed to make up their minds and that they were given the space to have their say on the referendum topics. SpunOut.ie offered online and phone support to first time and young voters on referendum day to help with a range of questions.
