Lundy’s. Rising to the occasion.

At your wedding, make sure “something blue” isn’t you. A year from now, your guests may not remember the delicately crisp texture of the Pistachio Encrusted Sea Bass. They may never recount the dramatic artistry of the sizzling flambé or swoon over its subtle layers of exquisite flavor. Nor are they likely to remember the elegance of the fine linen lining the carefully set tables. What they will remember, however, is the magic. They will remember the enchanted feeling of being surrounded by friends and family in a setting as beautiful as the love they share. They will remember that on your wedding day, everything was perfect. boutique catering | event design | couture linens and rental | 859.255.0717 | lundyscatering.com

Melissa & Abe

Written by Lauren Chitwood, Lauren Chitwood Events Photography by Angela Anderson & Amy Campbell, Angela Anderson Photography Melissa and Abe are one of the most fun and unique couples we have had the pleasure of getting to know while planning their wedding. When we met with the super glamorous bride, many months before the wedding, we knew this wedding would be one to remember. Melissa had so many fabulous ideas, even at our initial meeting; we just couldn’t wait to get started! In keeping with the traditions of Abe’s Greek Orthodox upbringing, the couple wanted to keep the ceremony very traditional, and pay tribute to his Middle Eastern roots. The ceremony was held at St. Michael’s Greek Orthodox Church, a beautifully ornate church in Louisville, KY. In contrast, the couple wanted a modern and chic reception. A classic blush pink and gold color scheme was chosen. Melissa’s main request was feathers and lots of them, to reflect her graceful yet sassy personality. On the day of the wedding, Melissa was glowing in her beautiful Private Label by Carrie gown, every inch of her radiating glamour. From her perfectly swooped hair to her gorgeous drop earrings and feather hairpiece, she looked absolutely stunning. The flowers, arranged by Love & Camellia Floral & Event Design, complimented her look perfectly. Her bouquet was a gorgeous arrangement of peonies, roses and ranunculus and with a soft collar of feathers wrapping around the underside. The softness of the feathers and the lovely ruffled bouquet perfectly reflected her wedding vision - traditional with that chic edge.

Real Weddings

Melissa and Abe continued Upon arrival at the reception venue, it was easy to see that it emulated the bride’s glamour and high-class style. Gold chiavari chairs were accented with blush pink bows, and the tables were covered in soft ivory pin tuck linen. On the table, gold chargers were adorned with blush pink napkins, and to top it all off, the centerpieces were overflowing with roses, hydrangea, stock, peonies and of course, feathers! The floral centerpieces definitely tied together all the elements of the room perfectly. Soft pink up lighting added a dynamic visual interest to the room, and the finishing touch that truly gave the room a romantic look. Their guests enjoyed a delicious meal by Dupree Catering and had a great time rocking out to both local DJ Coxx Events as well as an Arabic DJ, Jess Rayyan, for the traditional Arabic wedding dances. A photo booth from Snapshot was on the scene allowing guests to take home a souvenir from the wedding along with their Amaretto ball favors. Looking back on the evening, the best part was definitely dancing the night away with friends and family in this gorgeous backdrop. Melissa’s advice to future brides is to stay true to your style and just enjoy your day! The beauty of the evening would have been wasted without the beautiful photos captured by Amy Campbell of Angela Anderson Photography. We were so pleased to see all the hard work not only made the night unforgettable, but also was documented for a lifetime of memories. Sara & Jim Photography by Chad Henle After dating for four years and moving to a new city together, Sara and Jim were married at Green Acres Art Center in Indian Hill, Ohio. The ceremony took place outside and guests watched as Sara and her father, Stuart Turnheim, walked out of the old English Manor house, through the courtyard and to the end of the walkway. The couple wanted a wedding that incorporated both of their backgrounds: Sara grew up in England and Jim is an artist, so the English Manor House converted into an Arts Center couldn’t have been more perfect! After the ceremony there was a champagne toast on the patio, and cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner in the gathering room of the home. Guests enjoyed touring the house and the magnificent grounds, which include fountains, gardens and a beautiful moat. According to Sara, the location, food, wine and the weather were all absolutely perfect and it truly was a magical day to remember. Jennifer & Carson Written by Ellen Shaheen Fox, ShaFox Weddings & Events, Photgraphy by Robert Burge Jennifer Leigh Holloway and Carson Clinard Lilly were married at Middletown United Methodist Church. It was in the same sacred space that the bride was baptized and Carson first spotted his future bride and promptly predicted to his mother that he was going to date “that girl.” His prediction came true and they were married in a fabulous ceremony set among a wealth of magnificent flowers, surrounded by friends and family. The Louisville Fleur de Lis was chosen theme of their wedding and invitations, menu and place cards and even a signature drink bore the symbol. Carson surprised Jennifer by wearing gold Fleur de Lis cufflinks she gave him several years earlier for Christmas. After the ceremony, guests headed to the Brown Hotel for a cocktail hour where they were treated to a room designed in the bride’s favorite colors: black and yellow. Each table was given a unique look using polka dots, damask, and striped linen patterns all with arrangements of vibrant flowers and touches of lemons. While taking in the stunning look, guests nibbled on an abundance of food, picked up hand-rolled Kentucky cigars as party favors, and sipped on several creative signature drinks - the Mint Julep, a Lemon Drop (to match the décor of the room), the Chambord Fleur de Lis (to compliment the symbol used throughout the wedding), and of course, everyone’s favorite drink appropriately named after the couple titled “The Lilly”, which served up one part Carson, with one part Jennifer, and then a splash of fun! Upon entering the Crystal Ballroom for dinner, guests were absolutely delighted with the breathtaking beauty of the ballroom, which was filled with spectacular floral designs, rich linens, lavish seating and romantic candlelight. Guests dined on a superb three course meal whose main course consisted of medallion of beef, Chilean sea bass,

Jennifer & Carson continued grilled shrimp, parmesan risotto, jumbo asparagus and a roasted petit pepper prepared in a red wine veal reduction. For those with a sweet tooth, wedding cake and a UK monogrammed groom’s cake was served along with mignardises. Other treats included a deluxe chocolate fountain display alongside a cordial, liqueur and coffee station. The candlelit reception was undeniably magnificent, but so were the entertainment and the all-night dance party that extended late into the evening. There was rousing applause after an impromptu performance by the groom singing and leading the crowd in, “Sweet Caroline” filled the room. What a party! The bride and groom have known each other for years, beginning with that first encounter at church. Both attended Eastern High School in Louisville and the University of Kentucky. The couple resides in Louisville. Jennifer, a nurse at Baptist East, is the daughter of Cathy and Kevin Holloway of Louisville. Carson works for CPA Lab and is the son of Pam McAfee and Scott Lilly. The couple vacationed in St. Lucia for their honeymoon. Caroline & Gil As told by Caroline’s mother Libby Rush, Photography by Aaron Rebarchek Caroline and Gil were engaged in October 2009. The initial planning for the wedding began just after that, about nine months prior to the July event. The experience was a lot like being pregnant and giving birth! Caroline and Gil are both teachers and coaches in Brownsville, Texas, so a summer date was best for their busy schedules. A destination wedding in Grand Cayman was chosen because of a strong family attachment: Caroline’s maternal grandparents have been traveling to the island for 40 years. The first three months of planning were used to set the date, select the destination venue, interview event planners and photographers, establish a color theme, find a wedding gown, mother-of-the-bride dress and bridesmaids dresses. Most of the initial planning was done on the computer by checking out websites and corresponding with vendors via email. I documented every meeting in a notebook and kept all email correspondence in order to keep Caroline and Gil in the loop. In February I traveled to Grand Cayman for a three-week vacation with my husband Noel and my parents, Jane and John Stough. Caroline joined us for five days. This visit was extremely important, as we were able to meet the team who would be working with us to create the “dream week”. This onsite visit was a working trip with lots of appointments, but proved invaluable in the process.

Caroline & Gil continued I arrived on Cayman with Caroline and Gil, close friend Jane Booker and my son Will and his girlfriend Chloe Sohm five days prior to the wedding. Our suitcases were completely stuffed with materials for the wedding and the wedding gown. The 65 guests began to arrive on Wednesday before the ceremony. I had two full days before the big group arrived to meet the minister, do a hair and makeup “trial run”, and finalize all other events planned for the week. Since we’d done all of the planning in the month’s prior and had lots of helping hands from family and friends, NO STRESS was our mantra for the week. On Thursday we hosted a casual welcome/reunion pool party at Harbor Heights with a barbeque on the beach to celebrate the Cayman spirit. On Friday there was a snorkel trip to the North Sound for those who wanted to experience Stingray City and other fabulous sights. That night my family and friends hosted a festive beach party after the beachfront rehearsal with more local food and music. At the start of the wedding day, the ladies headed to the Ritz Carlton to get ready. Photographs of Gil and Caroline as well as some of the family pictures were taken prior to the ceremony to take advantage of the natural light. I had programs made into fans to help with air movement for the early evening ceremony. The weather held up beautifully, but we did have a Plan B just in case as popup showers can happen at any moment that time of year.

Real Weddings

Caroline & Gil continued Caroline and Gil love to dance, so we hired a great DJ for the reception who really played to the crowd. One of the most special moments was a moving rendition of “At Last” for the couple’s first dance sung by Peggy French, Caroline and Will’s childhood nanny. Caroline chose “I Loved Her First” by Heartland for the dance with her father and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. The beauty of a destination wedding is that family and friends come together for a special couple. All of the guests had time to get to know each other for several days and were a united group by the time the wedding and reception had arrive. My advice is to try to stay a few extra days after the wedding to wrap up loose end and just unwind! Some of my favorite times were sitting on the beach after the wedding and sharing everyone’s experiences. Event Planner Mary Ann Mehigan, Celebrations Ltd. Terry & Olivia Photography by Tyler Pelan, lighting His world photography Olivia became great friends with Terry’s sister at camp. Then one day, her really funny redheaded brother came into the picture. Although it wasn’t love at first sight, Olivia appreciated Terry’s humor and kindness. Olivia wasn’t sure if she was interested in anything more than friendship, but Terry says God was calling him to pursue Olivia and in time she began to feel an overwhelming force pushing her in Terry’s direction as well. They began dating in December and it quickly became apparent to both of them that they wanted to marry each other. Terry wrote a letter to Olivia’s dad, Brad, asking if he could date her with the purpose of marrying her. On March 27th, Terry took Olivia on a walk in Tom Sawyer Park and spelled out ‘Marry Me’ in sunflowers while her sister and cousin were hiding in the background to take pictures of the proposal. The wedding took place at Yew Dell Gardens. Rain poured until just before the ceremony. Many details, all carefully planned, represented the personalities of both Terry and Olivia. Terry was adamant they would have Ale8one and Laffy Taffy - two of his favorite items. Olivia’s dress came from the bridal company where she worked. She tried the dress on several years ago, loved it and always joked that she would be married in it. When it came time to search for the perfect dress, she tried it on again and knew that it was the one. Many of Olivia’s cousins carried pillows each bearing a name of a fruit of the Holy Spirit - an idea from Olivia’s mom, Jennifer. At the altar they signed a covenant on a large notepad. Terry explains that a contract is based on distrust but a covenant is based on mutual commitment to each other and to God. Olivia says they wanted to put it on paper so they can go back to it during hard times and remind themselves that they are in this for life.

Including wedding guests of the four-legged variety

Going to the Dogs

While there are a growing number of couples who couldn’t image their wedding day without Fifi or Fido, animal lovers are faced with the conundrum of weighing the benefits and risks. Before bestowing the honor of ring “barker” or flower “grrrl”, make certain that you know how your pet will react in a variety of situations and with unfamiliar faces. Designate someone to help you mind your pet, as you will have numerous preoccupations and responsibilities that will demand your attention. Some couples who’ve included their pets in the ceremony remarked that its not unlike sending a three-year old flower girl down the aisle – she may perform her duties with flying colors or melt down at the sight of the long walk ahead of her. As long as you’re OK with the latter, the resulting photographs of either situation can become some of the your memorable.
