THE COOPERATIVE HOUSES FLEA MARKETS, A BOOKSHOP, A CLOTHES AND BOOTS SPECIALTY SHOP, A HERBS AND SPICES SHOP, AND A PLACE FAVOURED BY FANS OF BOARD GAMES. IN THE EVENINGS THE COURTYARD COMES ALIVE WITH MUSIC AND LIVE PERFORMANCES, AND DURING THE SUMMER IT HOSTS CINEMA VIEWINGS AND OTHER EVENTS. One section of the courtyard houses the Goldstein & Co. workshop, which specializes in restoring and upcycling industrial objects. Here you will find unusual and timeless design originating mostly from former East Germany, some still dusty and faded, others restored to their former shining glory. Amidst the lamps, tables, clocks and other treasures you will come upon a workshop where the objects get restored. SINCE SOFFA IS ABOUT PAPER AS MUCH AS IT IS ABOUT DESIGN AND INNOVATION, THIS ONLINE ISSUE WOULD NOT BE COMPLETE WITHOUT OUR ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNERS OF THE 2017 COMPETITION FOR THE TOP FEDRIGONI AWARD. THE COMPETITION ATTRACTED AN UNBELIEVABLE 1,200 ENTRIES, AND ON THE FOLLOWING PAGES YOU CAN ENJOY THE BEST OF THEM.
Creatives from all around the world have been discovering Fedrigoni’s fine paper, and those who have made projects with this beautiful material are able to enter their creations in the Top Fedrigoni Award competition. There are several categories in the competition: books, covers, corporate publishing, packaging, labelling, and projects created using the HP Indigo technology. Projects from Czechia have been regularly entering the competition and gaining recognition. Last year studio Calico won the second prize in the packaging category and this year Tereza Hradilková won a special prize for her project Porigami and the publication The point is to make a point: The Typographer Oldřich Hlavsa took away the book prize.
