A message from our chief executives: Health for a better world is the vision that guides us at Providence St. Joseph Health and St. Joseph Health Medical Network. This vision leads us forward in our commitment to provide high-quality care throughout our communities for all who need it as we tirelessly seek to redefine health care excellence. As a result, residents of Sonoma and Napa counties have access to health care’s brightest minds and biggest hearts. Along with primary care physicians, we offer a wide network of care, including more than 550 providers, five hospitals, the region’s only Level II trauma center in Santa Rosa and Level III trauma center in Napa, and multiple urgent care centers conveniently located throughout the North Bay. In an increasingly uncertain world, we are committed to compassionate health care for everyone – regardless of coverage or ability to pay. 100 Years of Compassion & Caring

Caring for the Community Since 1918 The norms of 1650 France restricted women’s public movements unless they were accompanied by a male relative. But widows of the day were granted greater freedom. To allow them access to the sick, imprisoned and suffering in their communities, the first Sisters of St. Joseph adopted the black dress of widows, thereby freeing them to circulate in neighborhoods to care for those in need. Those pioneering sisters used a strategy that still informs the work of the hospitals and schools they founded: they “divided the city,” assessed the people’s needs in each section, and enlisted like-minded partners to help them address the most pressing needs. By 1836, a group of the sisters accepted an invitation to serve in America, landing in Missouri to build schools and orphanages. Their ministry began spreading throughout the United States as they forged on with their mission. By 1912, the word of their work had spread to California and a small group of eight sisters was invited by the Archbishop of Sacramento to go to Humboldt County to start a school. With just 60 cents of their own, the Sisters of St. Joseph landed in Humboldt Bay to begin a new foundation and build a Catholic school in Eureka. When the influenza pandemic of 1918 swept into Humboldt County, the sisters donned masks to help nurse the sick and dying, leading them to pursue formal medical training and reopen an abandoned hospital in 1920. St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka, their first medical center, opened on November 1, 1920, staffed by 18 sisters and one lay nurse. The unwavering mission of the sisters to serve the poor and vulnerable expanded during the 21st century, always led by their communities’ most urgent needs. In 2016, St. Joseph Health merged with another respected health care system, Providence

Health & Services. Both organizations share similar legacies, were formed by Catholic sisters, and are dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of their communities. Working together, they have broadened access to care across seven western states, including California. Now known as Providence St. Joseph Health, the not-for-profit network of integrated care includes five Northern California hospitals in three counties: Humboldt, Napa and Sonoma. These hospitals, along with 130 affiliated outpatient facilities, are dedicated to delivering the highest level of care with compassion, dignity and integrity.

2020

As we continue to grapple with COVID-19, Providence St. Joseph Health leads our community’s efforts in caring for those needing treatment to recover from this virus. Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital is caring for the most COVID-19 patients in the area, drawing on highly skilled professionals to support them on their path to recovery. Providence St. Joseph Health’s vision of improving the health and welfare of our neighbors drives us to do more towards creating healthy communities. With 100 years dedicated to compassionate community care, 6,701 caregivers (physicians + employees), and an investment of $65 million to support vital community programs and services in 2019 alone, Providence St. Joseph Health is second to none. As you consider which health system to trust with your and your family’s well-being, know that when you choose Providence St. Joseph Health, you are making an investment in a partnership for long-term health. Advanced Medicine. Compassionate Care. When it comes to exceptional service, Providence St. Joseph Health’s high standards and continuous innovation offer more critical and life-saving advancements that cannot be found anywhere else in the North Bay. Our distinguished hospitals have the capacity, skilled staff, and state-of-the art equipment to allow many patients to stay close to home.

Exclusively offered by Providence St. Joseph Health in Northern California:

fied Primary Stroke Centers, in recognition of the high caliber of care provided to patients who have suffered a stroke. Each facility’s Emergency Department is ready to quickly identify and treat appropriate patients with clot-busting medication. Often, our in-house neurosurgeons can respond immediately with critical, time-sensitive interventions. Once a stroke patient is admitted, their treatment is guided by board-certified neurologists. Finally, each facility’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit and robust Outpatient Rehabilitation Program complete the continuum of care for a stroke patient’s optimal recovery.

Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital – Level II Trauma Center As the only Level II Trauma Center on the north coast between the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oregon border, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital cares for the most severe emergency cases and injuries. Heart & Vascular Institute Treats over 80% of the region’s emergency heart attack patients. With a focus on advanced interventional and minimally invasive procedures, patients with heart conditions can expect a high likelihood of success with reduced recovery times and fewer medical complications.

• Mitral Valve Clip can be used to repair a damaged mitral valve without open-heart surgery. The permanent clip is attached to a patient’s mitral heart valve, helping it to function properly. Additional exclusive minimally invasive procedures: • The Watchman implant is a one-time procedure for those with atrial fibrillation to improve the heart’s ability to pump blood normally. Watchman is seen as an alternative to the lifelong use of blood thinners. • Cancer and Tumor Ablations in the liver, kidney, bone and lung in many cases can be treated by applying thermal energy to heat or cool tissue to destroy tumors without removing them. Oncology Care & Research Our Regional Cancer Care offers medical, neurological and radiation oncology at four outpatient cancer centers in Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake counties. As a Women’s Choice-certified Breast Center and the area’s only dedicated inpatient oncology unit, we have earned accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for providing the highest level of quality cancer care. In addition, Memorial Hospital proudly offers patients local access to clinical studies. In Napa County, Queen of the Valley, also accredited by the American College of Radiology and Commission on Cancer, offers a full range of tests, treatments and support services. Regional Referral Program Since 2010, Providence St. Joseph Health’s Regional Referral Program has provided acute care hospitals across the Northern California region a local resource for patients with complex conditions requiring a higher level of medical and surgical care. Due to the advanced services provided by our medical centers, this program has grown dramatically, providing access to care for many referring hospitals and communities, while helping patients remain closer to home.

Exclusive alternatives to open heart surgeries: • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR): To replace a damaged aortic valve, surgeons use a catheter, typically inserted through a small puncture in the leg. This can be performed under conscious sedation, rather than general anesthesia.

Women’s Health & Inpatient Pediatrics In an exclusive North Bay partnership with UCSF Benioff, Providence St. Joseph Health provides the highest level of women’s services and inpatient pediatric sub-specialty care available. Memorial Hospital was recognized by Women’s Choice Awards and Healthgrades as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety, Breast Care, Cancer Care, Heart Care, and Orthopedics.

Acute Rehabilitation Units Our Acute Rehabilitation Units (ARUs), support the recovery process for patients with acute neurological and orthopedic conditions, to enable them to achieve the highest level of independence possible. Board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians provide individualized therapy and discharge planning to meet the specific needs of patients, including transition to home care or outpatient services. Neurosurgery & Spine Center Recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery by Blue Shield of California, the expert team of highly skilled and extensively trained neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons can successfully treat a wide spectrum of neurological and cranial disorders. Using a team-based, patientcentered approach, each patient receives the personalized care and attention needed to maximize their success, while staying close to home.

Additional Cutting-Edge Services Offered at Providence St. Joseph Health in Northern California: Weight Loss & Bariatrics Program Our Bariatric Surgery and Weight Loss Program is devoted to helping patients achieve their weight loss goals. The program offers a team approach that includes surgeons, weight-loss specialists, dieticians, nutritionists, ongoing psychological support and counseling from psychotherapists who help patients understand the commitment necessary to ensure lifelong success. Designated Community Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) by California Children’s Services (CCS), the Level III Intensive Care Nursery in Santa Rosa and Queen of the Valley’s Woman’s Choice award-winning Intensive Care Nursery in Napa provide outstanding care to fragile, critically ill newborns.

Investing in Our Community

Creating healthier communities, together! For over 100 years, Providence St. Joseph Health of Northern California has been bringing programs and support to the economically poor and most vulnerable members of our communities. But it takes a village to keep a community healthy.

"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." – Coretta Scott King

Providence St. Joseph Health dedicates at least 10% of its net revenue from each of our hospital ministries to address the unmet health needs of its communities, each year.

Following in the footsteps of our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph, Providence St. Joseph Health takes the time to identify what is blocking residents from attending to their health needs. Much like putting together a puzzle, wesearch for the missing pieces to complete the community health picture. First, Providence St. Joseph Health identifies and works with existing community programs, but if we see there is a missing piece that can’t be found, we will create and implement a new program to move the puzzle closer to completion. Twenty-five years ago, it became evident that too many low-income families were not getting the basic medical and dental care they needed.

When lack of transportation was identified as a key reason people did not seek care, we put the clinics on wheels and like the Sisters before us, brought compassionate care to our neighbors. Providence St. Joseph Health is especially proud to bring these essential services to our community: • Mobile Health & Dental Clinics Our Mobile Health Clinic and Mobile Children’s Dental Clinics provide free care for the uninsured and those who cannot afford treatment. The mobile clinics offer treatment for minor medical conditions, and conduct screenings, physicals, immunizations, and dental care. The mobile clinics are an invaluable community resource that help reduce expensive Emergency Department visits and help prevent disease. • Care Network Using an interdisciplinary team approach of registered nurses, social workers, community health workers, and behavioral health specialists, CARE Network teams help their clients build self-sufficiency, improve their quality of life and health outcomes, and reduce the health cost burden on the community. • House Calls Some community members are homebound, unable to make their way to a mobile clinic, much less a hospital. Providence St. Joseph Health created a team of nurse practitioners, nurses, and other care providers, who make old-fashioned house calls – with no out-of-pocket expense to the patient. • Supportive Housing When a homeless person leaves the hospital, they need a safe, stable, and clean environment to continue their healing. To help ensure a continuum of care for this population, Providence St. Joseph Health invests in Catholic Charities’ Nightingale Centers of Napa and Sonoma counties which offer post-hospital respite care to homeless individuals. When you choose Providence St. Joseph Health to provide for your family’s health care and wellness needs, you are joining a village of caring and compassionate people making an investment back into the community where you live and work.

Meet Jordy – Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital’s Special Employee Nobody looks forward to a hospital stay. To help alleviate isolation, depression and anxiety, and to improve our patients’ motivation to heal, Santa Rosa Memorial brought a special new employee onboard last February: a health care worker who provides healing and motivation to patients of all ages – Jordy, a three-year-old golden/lab cross.

95% of caregivers agree that their patients are more willing, and participate more fully, during sessions with the facility dog.

Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital is proud to be the first and only hospital in the North Bay to have a facility dog caring for its patients. Jordy, who is a graduate of Canine Companions for Independence® is not a therapy dog. She is a service dog specifically trained as a facility dog who works with a professional handler in a health care setting. Jordy makes me forget for a minute that I'm in the hospital.

Jordy makes me forget my pain.

Although Jordy typically works with pediatric, elderly, oncology, and trauma patients, she visits with any patient who can benefit from her assistance. For example, Jordy helped a woman experiencing a difficult labor, providing the motivation for her to continue her delivery without further intervention. In fact, providing motivation is what separates facility dogs from therapy dogs.

She is the brightest part of my day.

Kathy Bellino, a NICU nurse at Memorial Hospital, is Jordy’s handler. Jordy lives with Kathy who underwent training in order to care for and assist Jordy in her hospital work. Jordy knows 40 commands that Kathy uses to help calm hospital patients and motivate them to reach their rehab and recovery goals.

OPEN ENROLLMENT: David.Pierce@stjoe.org

For patients struggling to get out of bed to attend to their rehabilitation efforts, Jordy provides the encouragement that no human can. Even when a patient is in pain, when Jordy arrives, their eyes light up and their rehabilitation challenges become lighter!

WORKFORCE HEALTH: Teresa.Scott@stjoe.org

98% of Caregivers agree that their facility dog is a valuable addition to the team.

Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital staff are grateful to have Jordy as part of the team. Staff and patients love having Jordy visit!
